Summary: One of the best journal books I've read
Review: Though Luke's journal was my personal favorite of the Journal books, this one was definitely the best written. It was better than Anakin's especially, since this one truly got into the mind of Queen Amidala, whereas Anakin's wasn't as good at bringing out his character (what little he had) or anyone elses. This one however, not only lets us get to know Amidala, but also brings out the other characters in a way that made Episode 1 seem much more interesting than it actually was. It was fascinating to find out more about Amidala,(I didn't previously realize she was only fourteen, in the movie she seemed older!) who I found a very intriguing character in the movie, though I was confused about where and when she was Amidala/Padme. This book answered my questions about that also, tying everything together in a satisfying knot. Also, I found Anakin's character much more interesting in this book than even in his own journal. In the movie especially he irritated me, because he just seemed too cute and sweet, but here he is much more likable. This book would be good for any Star Wars fan, especially those twelve and under.

Summary: The best journal
Review: Whereas Anakin's journal was kind of lacking any depth and was really just another novelization of the movie, this book really gets into Amidala's character, her motivations, and what makes her tick. It clears up all the questions about when she's the queen and when she's Padme, and she lets us into her past a little. The reason this only gets four stars, though, is that I still don't understand the whole "Journal" premise -- why write a series of books from the viewpoint of a character whose story we already know well? Additionally, I feel that the author, while she has a very firm grasp of the Star Wars characters, lacks an understanding of the way the SW universe works. She keeps referring to "the galaxies," though last time I checked SW only takes place in one.

Overall this is a well-written book for those that want to get to know the queen better, but it is still just another retelling of TPM.

Summary: I Am So Glad She Got Her Own Journal!!!
Review: Yesss! One of my fav. chericters got her own journal!!! Now you can know just what Queen Amidala was thinking in the movie/book. This gives you more insight to the movie/book. Now you know just when she was Padm`e and when she was the Queen. Something that was left out in this book that was in the real book was shortly after Anikin asks if Padm`e is an angel, he says he will marry her, and he means it, too. That would be the only flaw I found in the book, but they left it out of the movie as well. They compensate for the loss by adding in the conversation (or part of it) that transpired between Obi-Wan and Amidala about what happened to Qui-Gon. This book is more for those who just want the Queen's perspective of things, as apposed to having to read the whole book. Some read it for more insight on the feelings of Amidala, because after all, she is only 14 years old, and already a queen. I have not yet read Anikin's Journal, but I plan to get it in a few more days, because it seems that it will give his perspective on the trip (ex: when he went to be tested in the Temple, and how he feels for Padm`e/Queen Amidala, etc.). This one is well worth the time reading, but should not take very long. It is only 111 pages long. I also suggest reading the Episode I: The Phantom Menace book, too, or you will miss some of the best parts of the book/movie. For even more insight on some of your fav. people (Obi-Wan for instance) you can check out the Jedi Apprentice books: The Rising Force and The Dark Rival. Both consist of the story of how Obi-Wan Kenobi became Qui-Gon Jinn's Padawan learner. All are excellent books.
