Rating: Summary: This was a fantastic book, an awesomely original world. Review: This was a great book. I can't remember the last time I read a trilogy (or a series, for that matter) where I considered the second book as good or better than the first - especially when the second book is a direct continuation of the first. And I include the most recent trilogies by L. E. Modesitt, David B. Coe, David Eddings, Anne McCaffrey, Piers Anthony, Barbara Hambly, and others (all of which happen to be favorites of mine!). This is a startlingly original world with characters that came alive for me from the first sentence. After an endless succession of "go quest, young man" story lines, the sheer creativity of this was amazing. I can't wait for the third book. I started the first book on a Sunday, and couldn't quit reading. I looked up and it was 2:30 am Monday morning, so I just finished the second book and went to work on no sleep. It was worth it!
Rating: Summary: GREAT! Review: This is my fave book ever! Although I would have liked to see more of Daemon, it was understandable that we didn't. I mean, after all, how much can you say about a guy whose insane? But I did like seeing more of Lucivar. And Kaeleer. I can't wait till Queen comes out! I'm going to buy it as soon as its available! This is the best trilogy I've read in a long time!
Rating: Summary: Dark characters and intriguing plots! Review: I thouroughly enjoyed this book, and although it is rather overshadowed by Daughter, it is nevertheless a near-masterpiece. Mrs. Bishop's caste of characters, who are sympathetic without being composed of the classic hero combination of "sweetness and light" are an absolute delight to get to know. I would have liked for Daemon to play a greater role in the plot, but the substitution of Lucivar is more than acceptable. If Queen is up to the standard of these two books, we can surely expect to be seeing Anne Bishop's new works on all of our "Favorite Books" lists!
Rating: Summary: :) Review: I just finished reading this, as well as Daughter...they were amazing. Wow! I can't wait for Queen to come out. Gotta read them both.
Rating: Summary: Very humorous and involving Review: I think this was a great middle book, and although I didn't like it as much as Daughter of the Blood, hey, middle books of trilogies are hard. Ms. Bishop has to follow up on the first and set up for the concluding novel, which I think she did a wonderful job of. I was disappointed that Daemon didn't have much written from his point of view since he was insane, and when he finally got out of the Twisted Kingdom, the book just smack ended!! I'm EXTREMELY impatient for Queen of Darkness to come out, and I'll definitely buy it as soon as it's available.
Rating: Summary: Entertaining but... Review: I was taken aback by how the author's writing style altered so. So this isn't as fun to read as the first book, Daughter of the Blood, but it's still quite good.I suggest CROWN DUEL and COURT DUEL by Sherwood Smith. Splendid stuff. Rather similar to thus.
Rating: Summary: ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS I'VE EVER READ Review: This book is easily the equal of the first! Why wouldn't it seem as good?!? It was nice having more Lucivar for a change, then Daemon, besides, what's so interesting about Daemon if he is pretty much insane for the entire book? (Maybe its just because I like Lucivar, but oh well) This is the best of the Black Jewels Trilogy and I can't wait for Queen of the Darkness!!!
Rating: Summary: This book is wonderful! Review: My friend suggested that I read these books, and I immediately became hooked. It is easy to identify with the characters, and I liked seeing the human and gentle side in Daemon, Lucivar and Saetan. The story is relatively fast-paced and the plot is nice and intricate (a plus, in my view).
Rating: Summary: Great but not as good as the first Review: I loved the first book. plain and simple. i loved the hidden meanings (i may very well have dreamed them up but i found quite a few) and the real world allusions though there were only a few of these. however, i thought the second book had a tad too many rollercoasters. how many perils can one family have in such a short period of time. i understand a book needs something to keep the reader on edge but i think it did need a few breathing periods. don't get me wrong, i still loved it, but it seemed it was more or less passing time before the third book. oh and a side note, though i identified with jaenelle, (you know being supreme power and all) Surreal was my woman (you'll see the influence in the name) being tough and sexy :)
Rating: Summary: a fabulous and intriguing fantasy Review: This was such a good book! I just grabbed Daughter of the Blood and read it in 3 days. Then I HAD to read the second book. The trilogy is great. I read this book in 4 days (I was busy). I can honestly say that this is one of the best books I've ever read, ESPECIALLY for a first novel trilogy! It has whet my thirst for fantasy.
