Rating: Summary: Laying ground work and set up for a truly grand conclusion. Review: Ms. Bishop had to slow down, those of us who read (& adored "Daughter") were treated to a quick paced novel introduction to a very powerful and tortured young girl. In "Heir" Ms. Bishop needed to fill us in & at the same time do the same for Jaenelle, the most important of all her characters. She's done it again, I gritted my teeth waiting for this book, I knew it would be worth the wait and it was. With only a few sighs of frustration I sat down with Heir to the Shadows and did not come up for breath until the evening of the same day done with the book and lost in Kaeleer. Pick up this book, (of course read "Daughter of the Blood" first) settle down and feel nothing if not sympathy of the High Lord of Hell himself, after all it is gut wrenchingly hard to deal with a teenager daughter under the best of circumstances, imagine if she could wipe you out of existence? :) Enjoy I did.
Rating: Summary: Excellent content, great story... Review: I've been waiting for this book, and in its content, I wasn't disappointed. I enjoyed learning more about the characters introduced in the first novel and I like how this one didn't focus so much on Daemon. I was especially pleased to find out more about Lucivar. This time around, though, I was a little startled by the writing..it's good, but sometimes a little too brief. Sometimes you just like to revel in the intrigue a little more. In all though, I highly recommend the book and the first in the series as well. =)
Rating: Summary: A great sequel!! Review: This book was very well written, and kept the point of the first book. In the dark, shadowy world where these characters reside is well described and interresting. In the first part of the book, Jaenelle is still in the Twisted Kingdom, and her now legal Gaurdian, Saeten SaDiablo, is trying desperatley to get her out. The rest of the book describes her development into a strong queen, and Saeten trying to cope with the previously done damage to Jaenelle's trust. Also interwoven is the story of Lucivar, Surreal, and Sadi. After the massacre of her unicorn friends, Jaenelle makes the offering to Darkness, and keeps the Dark Council out of the Other Realms.
Rating: Summary: Enchanting but not as good as the first Review: Heir to the shadows was a much awaited book. I read it very quickly and was impressed with the story line and how it focused on Lucivar and Surreal. I was disappointed that Daemon didn't play much of a part in the book but hopefully he will be mentioned more in the sequel. I cannot wait to read the sequel and am very unimpressed that I have to wait a year to read it. Hopefully it will be more like the first book.
Rating: Summary: One of the best sequels I've ever read! Review: Anne Bishop has done it again. Daughter of the Blood was a lot to live up to, but I wasn't the least bit disappointed. It's a bit more confusing than Daughter, and a lot of new characters are introduced, but it's easy to catch on to. I just hope Ms.Bishop will hurry up with the next one!
Rating: Summary: Another incredible page turner by Anne Bishop! Review: I thought that Heir to the Shadows was as good if not better than Daughter of The Blood. It was a great read and I can't wait till the third book comes out. I think Ms. Bishop is a great storyteller, although a somewhat awkward writer. I wish she could learn to use a few more adjectives besides "midnight" and that she would give us more than just barebones descriptions of each character. However, it's definitely a quite different fantasy book than most of the others out there and I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes dark fantasy.
Rating: Summary: Lives up to the first book in every possible way Review: I don't think I've ever anticipated a sequel so much, and I was not disappointed. Ms. Bishop manages to avoid the "second-book slump" that so many writers fall into. The entire book kept me glued to the pages. We learn more about characters we already knew and loved, plus discover many of Jaenelle's mysterious friends from the first book. Unlike so much indistinguishable pablum found on the fantasy shelves these days, Anne Bishop crafts an original book that reminds us what the genre can be in the hands of an imaginative writer.
Rating: Summary: Darn! Do we have to wait another year for the third book? Review: I'm about halfway through the book (although I have already peeked at the end-what a cliffhanger!) and already I am moping about another year's wait to see the next book. 5 stars all the way!
Rating: Summary: Definitely an amazing story- I cant wait for the third book Review: Heir to the Shadows is the second book in the Black Jewels Trilogy. It continues the story of Jaenelle, Saetan, Daemon, Lucivar, and the Blood. Janelle awakens from her coma-like state with no memory of what had happened to her. She shys away from her past friends, and it takes a long time for her to trust Saetan again. Saetan gets legal guardianship over her, and they are happy. Daemon is lost in the twisted kingdom, and only Jaenelle can bring him back- except she doesn't remember him. Heir to the Shadows is an amazing book that I couldn't put down until it was finished. Anne Bishop's style envelops you so that you are completely in the book and it's story.
Rating: Summary: Delicious! Review: Even better then the first book, though I was a bit disappointed at the role that Daemon played. The First Circle is excellent, so is kindred blood. And how can you not love Lucivar. The "Knee or Bone" discussion is my favorite moment in the book. You go, Ms. Bishop! (Just hurry up please before I die of imatience! :) P.S. Enyone taking bets for Saeton's and Lucivar's SO's?
