Summary: Excellent 2nd book in the series
Review: This second entry into the Dark Jewels trilogy was just as good as the first. The characters were a bit toned down (i.e. Saetan) and not as much dark violence was shown. The character development of Jaenelle was excellent, and poor Daemon took a distant backseat in this entry. However, due to the ending of this book, Daemon should be back in full in the third and final book. Lucivar was much more fully developed, and sometimes his antics made me outright laugh. Can't wait for the third book!

Summary: Quite Good, though sometimes problematic
Review: I picked the prequel on a lark, in spite of teh cover and the odd introduction. I found a book where super-powerful characters are also interesting, and often quite weak in their own ways. Unlike many, many other fantasy series, there are very strong characters, world-killing magicians and such, who are interesting. Very few authors have managed to make good supre-magician tales--and this is one of them. I do have a few quibbles. Mainly, I found Saetan's character very weak and miscast. 50000 year old demons of great power and experience should be intelligent. It bothered me to see him acting like a fool. However, the story was good, and I can only think of a few other fantasies that have been anywhere near as consistently interesting. And sensuous--and not sexual. All together an enjoyable mix.

Summary: Amazing!
Review: This series is the most amazing thing I have ever read. Not even Anne Rice's Vampire novels enthralled me as much as the Black Jewels. I am not at all disappointed in Heir to the Shadows, it was every bit as good as Daughter. I am dying to get the next one!!! The overall quality of the writing is so amazing that we can forgive Ms. Bishop for repeating certain phrases over and over (ie. gold eyes, velvet voice, midnight voice). These books are indescribably perfect!

Summary: Wonderfully developed story, creative plot and characters.
Review: Bishop has made a great start in fiction for herself. The characters and the plot are extremely well thought and intertwined to keep you coming back. Very interested to see how the third book will finish the story and wondering when it will come. The story makes you root for some characters that in everyday life are made out to be evil. Especially the take on Saetan, the High Lord of Hell. For the first time I have read a book that makes him to be a good guy. The rest of the characters add humor and drama tied with wonder (unicorns, Lord Smoke, and the demon dead). Some of the scenes are graphic, but it gives the book a certain charm all its own. All in all, a good novel and great trilogy.

Summary: I can't wait for Queen of the Darkness!
Review: I loved this book! I can't wait for Queen of the Darkness! I love Bishop's detail on the characters! The ending is so shocking and I can't wait to hear more of Deamon, Luicvar, Jaenell and Saeten! I think this is a awesome book and people should read it!

Summary: Excellent piece of fiction!
Review: I, like many others, have impatiently awaited this book for some time. And I have not been disappointed. This book is a deliciously dark fantasy with relatable characters and a variety of emotions -- it will have you laughing and crying. Ms. Bishop simply DRAWS you into her worlds. I highly recommend it. P.S. Is anyone else rooting for Surreal and Lucivar to get together?

Summary: Wonderfuly Written
Review: After reading Daughter of the Blood last March, I waited in back breaking suspense for "Heir." Every time I went to the local book store, I would check. Finaly, in January, a bookstore employee was abe to tell me its publishing date. My suspense doubled. There I was last April first, ( truly a lucky day) absently ckecking the "b" section of the sci fi/fan section, when, there it was. The book, amazingly, did not let me down. This is truly an amazing feet, and one to be proud of. All I can do is reread it and wait yet another year in suspense for the great finaly. Celia

Summary: Wonderful sequal
Review: Sequals in my opinion never live up to their predicessor, but this book comes so close. Thankfully this book's ending wasn't as gut wrenching as the first's -- otherwise I wouldn't be able to sit a year until the next book comes out!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Good Sequel
Review: A good story. Not quite on par with The Daughter of Blood
