Rating: Summary: Don't use this book to introduce Star Wars novels! Review: This is not the book you recommend to someone who wants to get a taste for the SW books. I'm not sure what's worse, insipid, predictable dialogue that appears to do nothing more than fill page space instead of moving the plot forward, or Jeter's repetitive, melodramatic, almost amatuerish sentence structure. Tough to screw up characters as good as Boba Fett, et al, but the author's habit of trying to substitute verbage for content really slows this book down. Fortunatel the first installment was OK and the third is acceptable.
Rating: Summary: Even worse than "The Mandalorian Armor" Review: If you thought MA was bad you'll hate this one. Oh dear, I just realized I shouldn't be reviewing this book as I never finished reading it! This should give you an idea of how boring this book was. I didn't finish it. I have read ALL the other SW books, including the Young Jedi Knights and the Jr. Jedi Knights. And I just couldn't finish this one.
Rating: Summary: It's a middle book Review: A good book, but after you've read the 3rd installment, you kinda realize there's nothing here that won't be repeatedly covered, only in lesser detail. The renegade Stormtrooper plot was cool, as was the beginning with Bossk being chased off his ship. Plus the cliffhanger ending was fantastic. Only thing that bothers me is the question of where the other bounty hunters are, the ones that are supposedly out to kill Fett. And why is there an R5-D4 on the cover??? A good book, but it doesn't especially go anywhere.
Rating: Summary: great book. Review: Well, what can I say? good characters etc, the plot, ships, charcaters EVERYTHING (a lot of the things people are complaining about are resolved in the first 30-40 pages of book3) this series is the best of the star wars books I've read (except Courtship of Princess Leia, cause that had rancors, which are the best, if it had Bossk, nothing could have topped it unless you added Boba Fett etc etc) anyway, buy this, buy Shadows of the Empire, buy book 1, buy book3 (Hard Merchandise) and read them
Rating: Summary: Entertaining, but... Review: This book is a good read and pretty entertaining. The problem I had was that with all the scheming going on, I think the author got lost in the details. For example, the story of a renegade stormtrooper was cool, but how exactly did that lead to the breakup of the Bounty Hunters Guild? All we saw was the effect it had on Fett and Bossk, which was nothing new. Or (warning, spoilers ahead) how does a simple citizen of the planet Kuat have a better spy network than the Emperor? Or finally, the convoluted logic behind the whole attempt to break up the Guild. Xizor claims that it will be good for the Empire. But we're told earlier in the trilogy that members of the Guild often accept lower payments because they're weak. Isn't this good for the Empire? So, all in all, the book keeps you reading. But the lapses in logic get a little tiring.
Rating: Summary: excellent!! Review: What a story! I really found this book riviting and engrossing. I think the plot is great with many twists and turns and also refreshing from the overused good vs bad concept. Another aspect was the characters; no whimpy Luke!! reall tough characters with determination and cunning. Yes the Emperor was there and Vader but they are my fave so I don't mind them as well Xizor who is my third fave character and I simply love Bosk; I think he has the best lines! Great job can't wait for number 3.
Rating: Summary: An excellent plot with some great moments Review: Slave Ship by K. W. Jeter definitely has some exciting moments as the plot of this excellent storyline thickens. Despite this excitement, the book has some relatively dry and uninteresting aspects that do not seem incredibly relavent as of yet in the series. Some of the encounters in the web of Kud'ar Mub'at seem overly drawn out, and the events involving Kuat of Kuat at the Kuat Shipyards also get dull. If you can make it through a few lulls in the storyline, you will probably find this book to be a great in depth look at the characters of Boba Fett and Prince Xizor.
Rating: Summary: Interesting, slow at times, Fett is there, but still MIA Review: I know that a lot of folks have (viciously) panned these books, but I think that it's too much to say that they all stink and no one should read them. Aspects I enjoyed: Kuat's story. Mandalorian Armor (post prologue) begins with him, and I've found myself drawn in to his situation, and the connection to Kuat (the planet) and Neelah is one that I actually didn't see coming until it was right there. The Balancesheet Development. I think that this will prove interesting-Mu'bat's character is just that sort of nails-on-a-chalkboard type that you'd love to see come to a delicious demise. Aspects I didn't like: Well the obvious one is that this is a series centered around Fett, and all I have gleaned is that he's an unusually resilient harda-- who talks little and has even less to say. I want to KNOW about Boba Fett. Where did the Mandalorian Armor come from? How did Fett get it? What made him what he is now? But all I've read is a lot of battles and bluster. I don't believe that Fett is really stupid enough to fall into Xizor's trap for long, but we haven't learned enough about him to KNOW or not. Neelah - Frankly, she's not a very three dimensional character. She's got that hard bitten detective attitude - like in a Mickey Spillane novel. I'd hoped for a little more in a female Star Wars character. Think of Mara and Mirax and Iceheart (and of course, Leia). Yeah I know, she's got no memory. But I don't really care about her, and I don't think that's what Jeter intended. I think that the biggest problem overall is much talking without much to say. By the second book, I want to really be chewing up the story. I wanted to like these books more - but I didn't hate them either. I haven't read anything else by Jeter, yet, but I don't think that he wrote for the originial Star Wars adventure journals, written to coincide with the role playing game. I think that maybe before going into another Star Wars series, or single, that he should write more SW shorts. It's sometimes easier to get more quality out of a short story, and it's a good way to get accustomed to the Star Wars universe. I don't think that the "powers that be" should prevent him from writing any more SW material,as some do, but I think he needs to fine tune, and focus on character development - to find that balance between detail description, interesting dialogue and forward-moving action.
Rating: Summary: Awesome Book, Jeter rules! Review: The first book in this series was awesome, but this one beat them all! The plot is so good that it kept me guessing to no end. Both books leave you guessing which is good in a book. If you are a REAL Star Wars fan like me, you have to read this book
Rating: Summary: Boba Fett Keeps On Dying!!!! Review: Is he invincible? How come he just happens to be one step ahead of his opponents. Yet he is stupid enough to be led along by Prince Xisor?
