Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Planet of the Extremely Descriptive Review: This story is extremely descriptive. Not only did I feel like I was completely immersed in another world, I was hooked by the storyline. Jack Vance rules.

Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: vance at its best Review: Vance is my favored writer, his imagination is without equal. This is one of his best, just after Cugel and the first two of the Lyonesse series. Really entertaining, and less twisted than the Demon princes series (which is less good).
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Not a movie? Review: Well i must agree with all the reviews i've read so far. But having read the book for the well eh is it 14th time? i've noticed something strange: I think the makers of the Alien film got the idea for their Alien (I know its Giger's creation) from the Phung (and Pnume) and perhaps the Dirdir is the Predator. Read these stories with this in mind and you'll see what i mean.

Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: The full series needs to be read to be appreciated. Review: When I first started in to The City of the Chasch, I was slowly turned off by the main character's constant moralizing and essential whininess, which is probably to be expected for open consumption of a book. However, after reading the whole collection and seeing the slow but steady change in the character's thinking, I began to appreciate the fairly two dimentional start he had.The world created in Vance's storytelling is in itself worth the read. Rather than fine details, he seems to allow the reader to fill in many of the blanks. This is somewhat rare for a writer, and difficult to pull off succesfully.
