Rating: Summary: A WEAK CARPENTER PASTICHE Review: leonard Carpenter wrote some of the better Conan Pastiches in the 80's and 90's but this, unfortunately, is not one of them. Now a pirate on the Vilayet Sea, Conan faces a cataclysmic naval battle fought with ships and sorcery, as a mage, an alchemist, an astrologer, and a powerful sorcerer combine their arcane skills to create magical vessels helmed by death zombies--and defended by a monster only Conan can destroy.
It's an underdeveloped story with two-dimensional characters and a pretty stupid monster to boot. Lacking in originality without any of Howard's passion or spirit. toss this one aside.
Rating: Summary: an uninspired conan tale Review: This title is perhaps one of the weakest entries in the Conan series. The book plods along at an uneven pace, and far too much time is devoted to developing secondary characters. The book, however, is not completely devoid of redeeming qualities. Carpenter's knack for characterization shows through although at the expense of the action many "Conan readers" are accustomed to.
