Rating: Summary: Entertaining, but not thrilling Review: I'm a huge Salvatore fan, but I must say I was disappointed with this latest series. It's interesting, yes, but not very original. This story just strikes me as a re-hashing of a Drizzt book; you have your male hero, Elbryan and a heroine, Pony; a mystical connection with an animal, in this case a horse. An unusual assortment of characters; the centaur was a nice touch, and of course, the wise man, Avalon. The isle of the raining gemstones was creative and fun to imagine, but I felt this was just another Drizzt book by another name. I'll wait for the PB on the 2nd book.
Rating: Summary: Not the best Salvatore Review: I have read many fantasy/fiction books and this is not the best of them. I was let down by the author, but I guess after reading the Dark Elf Trilogy and the other series about Drizzt, That anything other than Drizzt is a let down. While R.A. Salvatore continues to be my favorite author, he has not maintained the level of excellence I have come to expect from him. I am glad that Drizzt is returning :-)
Rating: Summary: Dark Elf was better Review: This book was good, that it was. Although the end was rather dissapointing(I sincerely hoped Avelyn wouldn't die), overall I enjoyed it, although we should of got to know the demon better-about it's past, how it planned on dealing with the intruders at the end, etc. The dactyl seemed more like a mean neighbor than an evil and truly devastating creature. The battles were terrificly described, as is Salvatore's nature. Overall, a very good book.
Rating: Summary: Hard to put down Review: There's something about R.A. Salvatore. I know he's not the best writer in the world, but there's something about his books that doesn't let me put them down (hence the rating of 8). All through the Drizzt series (plural) and now this one, Salvatore has costs me many nights sleep. Whatever he misses out on in storytelling ability, he makes up for in descriptiveness (especially in combat). As usual though, Salvatore seems to have a hard time actually challenging his heroes, much like Steven Seagal "syndrome". I recommend this book (or any other Salvatore book) to anyone who likes action and is forgiving about character development and plot twists.
Rating: Summary: Salvatore does it again Review: Once again R.A. Salvatore writes a book, that grabs you by the collar and doesn't let you go till the last page. I have read every book R.A. Salvatore has read, and I must say if you were a Drizzt fan you are going to love this book.
Rating: Summary: I loved the book! An adventure I will not soon forget! Review: Salvatore does an excellent job in completing an entire story and still allowing room for many more adventures to follow. It is a world that totally consumed me and I was reluctant to leave. The characters were easy to befriend and I will be loyal and not leave them. Let Salvatore keep writing so that we may enjoy his gift for story telling for years to come!
Rating: Summary: The Demon Awakens is fantasy at its best Review: I was captivated by the story from the very first sentence I read. The characters in the story all seem very alive, and the descriptions make you feel like you know them personally. The story line bounces from character to character, describing their lives, and moves at a wonderfully smoothe pace. It shows the joining of the characters to fight against the common evil, the Demon. This book pulls you into the fantasy world like none other, and is filled with the best adventure I have read in a long time. It is a must read for all fantasy fans.
Rating: Summary: Salvatore delivers his usual incredible tale... Review: The Demon Awakens is another stellar work by R.A. Salvatore, but not quite his best. It is impossible to top a character like Drizzt Do'Urden; and while Elbryan Wyndon is certainly a likeable and able character, part of what made Salvatore's Drizzt stories so incredible are the moral and spiritual conflicts Drizzt faces. This story lacks those conflicts. Thus we are left with a good story, good character, excellent fight descriptions, and an overall quality work. It's just a notch below what I've come to expect. Of course, we've had only 500 pages to meet Elbryan and several thousand to get to know Drizzt. Given time, perhaps Elbryan can attain a similar stature. Whatever the case, this is another quality book from Salvatore and an excellent read, whether one is a fantasy fan or just a fan of good literature.
Rating: Summary: The book was written in a hurry. Review: I enjoyed the first half of the book much more than the second half. The action and emotion of the fall of Dundalis was sad but gripping. Overall, the book lacked detail describing good and evil characters. More than anything, Salvatore rushed it. Robert Jordan like "over-describing" isn't necessary but real likable characters i.e. Drizzt are (and I haven't even read all about the "Dark Elf" yet.)
Rating: Summary: He just keeps going... Review: I don't know what to say. He has done it again! Salvatore just keeps producing great books. He just seems to be getting better and better. I don't care what anyone else says but I believe R.A. Salvatore is the best fantasy writer out in the market today.
