Rating: Summary: He's Back With Feeling Review: R.A. Salvatore has once again tugged at the feelings of a skeptical reader. R.A. Salvatore has written many excellent novels, but he never touched me and made me feel a novel. About eight years ago he started a saga with Drizzit and other touching characters. They had depth and interpersonalities which drew the reader into the novels. They wonderfully built on one another and allowed the reader to feel as if they were growing with the characters. The characters had unformulated relationships and situations. A reader could not just understand a situation, but feel it as if it were there own. R.A. Salvatore has recreated this intangible feeling with "The Demon Awakens." This novel had a more realistic and applicable climax that his origal novels didn't have. It contrasted conseqence and reward, but still made plot seem realistic. I would recommend this novel to anyone, even a timid fantasy reader. I only hope Salvatore takes these characters further and draw his readers even deeper into this intrinsic world
Rating: Summary: The best book I've ever read Review: The Demon Awakens would, I thought, turn out to be the best book I had read all year. I had read enthusiastic recommendations by people who already had it, and I was looking forward to buying it.
It actually turned out to be the best book I've ever read. Some reasons why...
R. A. Salvatore has been praised before for his fight scenes; the mastery only increased in this book. I felt the characters were original without being outlandish, strong without seeming superhuman, excellent fighters while still standing a reasonable chance of losing.
The description made me feel as if I were standing in Corona. It helped that R. A. Salvatore seems able to mix human and nonhuman races effortlessly. Corona is most definitely not our world... and yet, it is hard to say it doesn't seem real.
The characters go through tragedies that help to build up their spirits, hearts, and minds. Their demon opponent gives an impression of slowly building menace throughout the story. This menace is also reflected beautifully in the moral decay of Corona.
The only major criticism I have of the book is that it was far too short. The Demon Awakens does have a definite ending, but there are more stories to be told, and it's going to be hard waiting for the next one.
One final word of advice: Even if you've never tried Salvatore (or fantasy) before, try this one. There couldn't be a better start to this author's work, or to fantasy in general
Rating: Summary: Salvatore's best! Review: This book has got to be the BEST book that I have ever read! The characters are original and the plot is fast paced. I have written allready, but because of some goof I wrote my E-mail address wrong, so without further ado.
I'll just say buy this book, it's worth the money
Rating: Summary: Best Salvatore work yet! Exceptional characters and plot. Review: Amazing, wonderful book, I couldn't begin to put it down. Among the best stories I have ever read. It makes one feel as if they are actually in a bloody, grueling battle with the character Elbryan. I highly recommend you to enjoy the magic in this wonderful novel as I and millions of others have
Rating: Summary: An Outstanding book from an Author who never fails to please Review: R.A. Salvatore once again sends readers into another realm so detailed as to be just as real as our own.
This book blends classic fantasy writing with a mirror held up to our own society in a seeming reminder to be aware of our actions, and the possible consequences when we fail.
The characters are incredibly believable and draw the reader into their lives to weep with them in their grief, and cheer with them when they succeed.
Mr. Salvatore stands heads above most other writers in imagery and detail making his novels more real and therefore more enjoyable to the readers.
If you haven't read all his works - buy them now!!! You won't be disappointed! =o
Rating: Summary: Jordan watch out Review: This is for R.A. Salvatore. My name is Travis and I met you recently at The barnes and noble in holyoke Ma. June 20 I think it was. Any way you conveinced me to check out your new book. I was always a fan of your dark elf but was concerned over trying something so different as Demon Awakens is. I am very glad to say I love it. When we talked, we talked about Robert Jordan's series Wheel of Time and I have to say Demon awakens gives jordan cause to worry. I loved your character development. Also your unique twisted on the traditional elves and dwarves was great and refreshing. The way that you greated a world unlike anything else I have read is incredible. your take on magic is different from the norm. I have encounted a magic system similar in my reading but yours is far more realistic (if that word can be applied to magic). Over all I have to say great work. I can't wait to check out the rest of the series and any other projects coming out. I hope you can work something out with the old TSR to keep the old elf going. Thank You very much for talk with me and leading me into such a great world.
Travis
Rating: Summary: Salvatore's best work! Need I say more? Review: Salvatore has done it again! The Demon Awakens is most definately the best work he has ever done. Once I started this book, I couldn't and wouldn't put it down untill I finished it. This book is now my most favorite book! I really had feelings for Elbryan, Pony and Avelyn. This book has great depth and great characters.
Lets see more his work just like this
Rating: Summary: Good, all around book Review: R.A. Salvatore has written The Demon Awakens, a book that he claims is the novel that he has always wanted to write. It seems that the editors at Del Rey are easier to work with, partially because they are not breathing down his back to quickly write a top selling work. He has created what many hope will be his best book ever. Thus, R.A. Salvatore, who is known to many as the creator of TSR's Drittz has a lot riding on this novel. Its success or failure could determine whether or not he is seen as a serious fantasy writer or just part of the previous TSR book factory. For the rest of the review go to http://www.fantasylink.co
Rating: Summary: Salvatore's Masterpiece Review: This books is, without a doubt, the best book I have read since the Lord of the Rings. Salvatore has created a unique world that I can't wait to revisit in The Demon Spirit. I was sad to finish this book, because I find it hard to believe that any of the other DemonWars books will be able to top it. Unlike his Forgotten Realms stories, Salvatore has complete control over these books, making him able to kill off any character he feels needs to be killed off. It adds a great deal of realism to the novel, making the reader feel like these are real people, with real problems.
I won't be surprised if these books are someday placed right next to the Lord of the Rings, the Hobbit, and the Chronicles of Narnia as the greatest fantasy tales ever told.
Rating: Summary: My all time favorite, The Demonwars Review: Being book one of the First Demonwars Trilogy, this book starts a 7 book cycle of the best series I've ever read. Salvatore sets up his own world in grand style with his trademark battle scenes, but something more. He give us charecters who are flawed, yet more human than anything I've seen before. THe good guys are not all good, nor are the bad one's neccisarily all bad. The depth of the charecters and detail of the world are striking and powerful. I can't recommend this one enough.
