Rating: Summary: This book should never have been published Review: Eve of the Maelstrom was a massive letdown. For the hideous TSR blunder regarding Goldmoon alone it deserves *no* stars. For an author supposed to usher in a 'golden age of dragonlance,' Rabe did a pretty good job of matching the Mills & Boon excesses of the books that ruined DL's reputation in the first place. The characters: mostly a collection of stereotypes with a rare few possibly decent characters who were mostly undeveloped. Two of the stars are almost direct copies of the Power Rangers, with Rig doing a poor impression of the already juvenile Han Solo 'not really a rebel, just a cool image'. The plot: mostly suppressed from my memory. I'm thinking of sending WotC my shrink's bill. What sticks out in my mind is that Rabe ignored the format of a trilogy and left major cliffhangers (as opposed to nagging unfinished business such as at the end of Chronicles). This wasn't artistic, it was mostly just 'stay tuned for everything our advertising said was going to happen in this book.' The action: this deserves it's own category. As a roleplayer I'm used to abstract systems of champions being able to take exponentially more damage than normal people because they're more 'experienced.' This is something I can reconcile in games, but not in a book. Why should a former professional soldier be able to wipe out thirty men who are still on the same training regime while naked and wielding a clumsy poleaxe? Why are the Knights of Takhisis so stupid? The themes: no Hickmanism here! Rather than classic Dragonlance I'm reminded more of Independence Day.
Rating: Summary: A dawning of age both in Krynn and in Dragnlance books. Review: Bravo Jean! This new addition to dragonlance is a real gem. Sure the Kender was weak, but, the rest was a beutifuly crafted begining in the new age of the dragon overlords.
Rating: Summary: This is more like a fanfic than a Dragonlance book Review:
First of all, few of the actual Dragonlance characters remain in this book (Palin, Usha, Caramon, Tika, Goldmoon, Gilthanas, Kitiara's Dragon Skie (Khellendros), and maybe Kitiara if that dragon of hers actually succeeds in bringing her back (Lord Soth still has Kitiara. I think it said somewhere that Lord Soth and Kitiara went to Ravenloft.) The characters that do remain are nothing like they were before. Too many new characters were threw in at once to fill in the space left by the missing characters (To everyone saying they are immortal, it's probably a comment like that that got Sturm, Tanis, Flint, an Tas killed in the first place). Among these new characters are two kender that seem nothing like kender (Maybe in the next book, it will be revealed that Blister is really a gully-kender (Gnome+Kender=Gully Kender). And then there is Palin and Usha's son, with one of the stupidest names (Ulin=Usha+Palin). In the ending of the trilogy, where the group sneaks up under the dragons and starts chopping at them and casting spells, while the dragons did nothing the whole time. The end of the trilogy really didn't conclude anything, which may or may not be corrected by a new trilogy, which I would know not to buy. Anyway if you want to know some good books to read, if you haven't already, then read on.

The Soulforge (Margaret Weis,Tracy Hickman) Raistlin's early life, how the companions met, and the famous boating accident.
Brothers In Arms (Margaret Weis, Tracy Hickman) Sequel to The Soulforge, Beginning right after Raistlin's test, tells about Raistlin and Caramon early life as Mercenaries.
The Death Gate Cycle, 1-7 (Weis and Hickman) Not really Dragonlance, but Fizban makes an appearance as Zifnab. Great, though the ending is kind of bad.
The Belgariad, 1-5 (David Eddings) No, this has nothing to do with Dragonlance, though it stillrules (Prince Kheldar may even be funnier than a kender)
The Mallorean, 1-5 (David Eddings) This series is the sequel to the Belgariad, and rules just as much.
Rating: Summary: A daring step into new land. Review: I heard about the Dawning of a New Age back in 97 and thought what the heck I guess I could read it. I read it and was so disappointed that I couldn't find any more books in the series. I finally found them all and I just couldn't set them down. I thought that Jean picked up what Margaret and Tracy left off wonderfully. Yes the Kender was sorta week, but what do you expect after losing Tas. I like the direction that Jean has headed us all in. The group has does sort of seem to be immortal since they seem to be able to take on anything. But I guess you get that in all of the Dragon Lance books. I can't wait for more to come out after Eve of the Malestorm. I hate getting ahead of the author.
Rating: Summary: Better then I thought... Review: Jean did a better job of this series then I suspected. She has the writing talents needed, but just not all the facts. I'm not trying to be rude when I say this, Jean, but the time and events within the series went by way to fast, and more things about Krynn (And Kender) should be considered and reviewed before hand. But other then that, I thought it was great. :)
Rating: Summary: I love this series Review: I think that everyone who gave this book a bad review must truly not enjoy Ansalon and Krynn, I think Jean tells really good stories but just has a different style then Hickman and Weis if it possible I would have gave her more stars I totally recommend this book if you are a true lover of Fantasy and DL. To all the other readers who gave this book a bad review I dont think you deserve to be able to read these books your narrow minded and our stuck on the way Krynn used to be.
Rating: Summary: I was very dissatisfied with eve of the malestrom Review: Jean Rabe did a very poor job on this series. I have been reading D.L. for most of my life. After reading this series I switched over to F.R. I faithfully await weiss and hickmans return.
Rating: Summary: Eve of the Maelstrom is a great novel. Review: Unlike what all of the uneducated readers thought about this book, I thought it was great. The whole purpose of the book was to set the scene for the coming of the fifth age, and the newer and stronger characters which were to come. The reason that all of the endings were left untied was that Jean Rabe had no intention of killing off the characters in the end. Her next trilogy, which I believe will come out next year sometime, will explain most of the mysteries that were unexplained at the end of this trilogy. And as for the comment about Khellendros being dead or trapped in the Gray, Khellendros is the greatest of the dragon overlords, and I am sure that he will return from the Gray quite alive...and accompanied by his new dragon queen Kitiara. This is a great way to start out the fifth age and I just wish that more readers could see the big picture rather than this single trilogy.
Rating: Summary: Rabies. Review: Dark dragons are supposed to be treacherous! They're not suppposed to want to help each other! I can hardly recognize Krynn. Maybe that's why there are some five-star reviews.. They don't like Ansalon the way Weis and Hickman wrote it. Almost nothing is accomplished. All the book serves to do is get Feril a garden hose, Blister a medallion, and get Rig and Fiona together. Yuck! Slightly superior to the others in this disgusting series...but still a candidate for book-burning. Amen.
Rating: Summary: May the gods of Krynn return just to rid us of this book! Review: I truely wish i could rate this thing any lower, i'm rating the series in total. it deserves just as much attention. My god please help me, this is awful. Blister is about the dumbest Kender to live, if you want to call her a kender, she sounded off to be more like J.R.R Tolkien's Hobbit, only with stupid ideals. Its so amazing how none of the characters has any real depth, that is what happends when you attempt to write about characters which arent' taken from real role playing, they have no personality and are all seemingly the same, and the whole deal of Goldmoon Dying yet not, is really annoying. I am truely crushed that TSR allowed this thing to by pass into publication. Is there anything good about this book. well i'll hand it to Rabe, she knows how to write when coming to the Dragons, and that is about all i could stand in this book. If you start reading the series, you will find that it has no end, and that the final chapter really doesn't lead to anything, and you are once more where you started. In short words, this book isn't worth your money, or time. a true shame to the dragonlance saga.
