Summary: Awesome!
Review: For ages I had always heard about Kate Elliott's books and I had never read them...but one day I just HAD to pick up King's Dragon because I felt compelled to read it. Boy was I right! I finished the book in about a day, while at the same time traveling back and forth from London.

I immediately clicked the the first two main characters: Liath and Alain. They both had very human wants and needs and more importantly, emotions.

I think that Kate Elliott is one of the best character developers out there (yes, I think these are better than Harry Potter, you just have to be up to reading thick novels with political conflict, etc). Liath, who was "stolen" by an evil man called Hugh, was then abused and raped. Usually, in fantasy books, the enemy is very flat: dark side, evil magic, etc...while Hugh could be a person walking (or riding) down the road like anyone else, etc. He was very real and more than once I could not figure out how Liath was going to get out of the situations she was in.

Filled with court drama, awesome characters, and romance, this seris is one of the best out there.

Summary: King's Dragon
Review: I must say this is one of the best books I've ever read. And to say the least I read a lot. Mrs.Elliott makes a complex plot of love and pain, but always seems to give you something to hope for. Liath a well created women is always filled with fear wile she hopes for a chance to love, but when she does finally fall in love she thinks that man dies. A very well writen book. I can't wait to read the next books in the searies.

Summary: Can't get enough
Review: I have enjoyed reading Kate Elliott's books. I have read the first two in this series and can't wait for the third to come out on paper back. I find that when I am reading a work of literature by someone else, I can clearly call up a mental picture of one of her characters to stick in that work. I have read anything from western to romance, sci-fi, fantasy, American Classics, Charles Dickens, etc. and find that her books are some of the best I have read. I would definately recommend this series to anyone who loves action, and would like to see what happens between Liath and Sanglant. I can't wait! I think that I am going to try to find her other series, Jaran, and read that.

Summary: Alternate Universe - very interesting
Review: I very much enjoyed both King's Dragon and Prince of Dogs, and look forward to reading the 3rd volume. If you enjoy grand questing a la Eddings, this book is not for you. It is crafted on a more personal, yet very political - almost Machievellian - , level. Well worth a read.

Summary: loved the whole book
Review: i loved every minet of this book it was long enough to take more than afew hours for fast readers but since it had four characters to concentrate on the storries never got borring because there was always someone else to pull out of the fire or some one just getting into trouble though if you like slower books this is jamed packed with action

Summary: Clever twist on the familiar
Review: Reading through the reviews, I felt compelled to make a remark myself, regarding Elliott's use of religion. First, this is set in the middle ages. OF COURSE the church pervades everything. Fantasy set in medeival periods that ignores or downplays religion is not realistic in the least. Also, what some readers apparently failed to realize is that the parallels to the church were (to me) obviously *intentional*. She makes a game of references to familiar works under slightly different names. Every time I saw one, I couldn't help but imagine it put there with a wink and smile. This is a clever twisting of history into a "might have been"--not a lack of imagination at all. Lack of imagination can be found in any volume of Robert Jordan or Terry Goodkind.

Summary: Good writing, but some definite plot problems
Review: While I won't fault the writing (that's what kept me reading), the plot just didn't flow, and I had some serious problems with the characters. Is every active character in the book in the church somewhere? I finished the book and felt like I just stepped out of a Radcliffean convent ("co-ed" so to speak)...also, the characters lacked complexity, it seemed.

A good book for a long trip or when you're not feeling too great, but when you want something actively engaging, try Orson Scott Card or C.J. Cherryh.

Summary: slow starter but guaranteed to keep you hooked
Review: The story takes a really long time to develop as the writer seems to be involving too many minor details. However as you read further and further, you find you can't put this book down. Definately worth the money.

Summary: An anchor for the intelligent
Review: This book, in fact the second book as well, was written for a person with enough mind to grasp politics, and religion. Both of these play a huge part in this. Both the good side of a loving, forgiving reliogion, and hard-core human people in power of that religious community. This will grab a person and hold you to your seat until you're done, and you'll reread it with equal joy.

Summary: Couldn't put it down
Review: This is a very great read. The characters are very uniqe and interesting. I read this book straight through. The only problem I had with this book was that it was a kind of parallel europe. Other than that everything was cool. I recommend this book to readers who don't get frustrated with character changes every 100 pages or so.
