Summary: A 'must' for any raptor or gryphon fantasy novel reader!
Review: Lackey is a masterful fantasy author, and often integrates her work with birds of prey; being a raptor rehabilitator herself. I loved this book and consider it my favorite. The memorable Black Gryphon, Skandranon, tops my list of best characters. But Lackey's story is a tapestry of much more, telling of relationships, heroic deeds, and subtle humor. Set against the backdrop of a magical war, The Black Gryphon will evoke a sense of adventure within you.

Summary: This was the first Lackey book I read; I loved it.
Review: Mercedes Lackey drew me into her story, and I loved it. I enjoyed the two romances going on, and it was interesting how originally everyone despised Winterhart, but (that famous twist), as usual, she sets it into a captivating part of the plot. I am proud to say that she has influenced my writing, and her books helped me learn to write emotion, plain and complicated, powerfully, and subtly. Thank you, Misty! I would also recommend David Eddings, Robert Jorden, J.R. Tolkien, Piers Anthony, Melanie Rawn, and Anne McAffrey. Their works and wriings also taught me and showed me how to write.

Summary: I would read her books again and again anytime!!!
Review: I loved the book The Black Gryphon! It stirred up myimagination to want to write my own creation. My favorite charactar, believe it or not, is Urtho. I have read The White Gryphon and The Silver Gryphon too. Of all, I think they were the best!!

Summary: brilliant and imaginative
Review: I was a little cautious about reading this book as I had never heard of Mercades Lackey, but I am now keen to read the next two in the series. Lackey is a terriffic storyteller and this book griped my imagination in an "unable to put down" way. Read at all costs

Summary: THE BEST DAMN BOOK I'VE EVER READ

Summary: This book was definetly a page-turner.
Review: The Black Gryphon was a thrilling read for me. I love both fantasy and sci-fi, so this was just perfect for my taste. The book (in paperback) is about 450 pages, and I read the whole book within three days. The characters are fascinating, and the way Lackey and Dixon let you read the characters' thoughts is fun. I would suggest The Black Gryphon to fantasy lovers who are looking for a great read.

Summary: Great fantasy, intricate and funny
Review: One of the best Fantasy novels I've read, "TBG" balances humor, intricacy and characters with a deft touch. The author gives equal development to both human and nonhuman, and addresses classic discriminatory issues between each, as well as a well-established romantic relationship that stems from unlikely sources for two sets of main characters, and the ending is as fast-paced and emotional as one might expect, offering a realistic view of emotion and war. Topnotch, and one of my favorite books

Summary: Lackey is brilliant!!!!!!
Review: I was absolutely smitten with her world the moment I picked up this book. Valdemar is so well developed and tied together, I can believe in it. Lackey's unending creativity, originality, and persistance at making this world live pay off. Anyone who reads fantasy should read ALL of the tales of Valdemar, beginning to end. No fantasy reader could be disappointed.

Summary: interesting, yet confusing
Review: i have always been a big mercedes lackey fan(yeah). i truly enjoy reading about valdemar and all the other places that her stories take place in. i was excited when this book came out, but when i started to read it, i got confused. the way she writes the book, makes it seem as though we should already know half of what is going on. it should be a second book, not a first. but despite all that, it was a slamming book, and misty has done it again!!!!
