Summary: One of the strangest books I have ever read
Review: 'Amnesia Moon' is confusing, at times it is hard to tell whether it is talking in metaphors or the actual scene. But overall it is satisfieng.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: A fantastic read, as long as you don't mind having to think
Review: Amnesia Moon was the first Lethem book I ever read, and I couldn't put it down. I have since read several of his other books, and of those I've read, only Gun, With Occasional Music comes close. However, be warned, only read this book with the understanding that you have to figure it out, because he never tells you flat out. Even compared to other Lethem books, this one is ambiguous. I read the entire thing looking for closure and an explanation and of course I didn't get that. I've been waiting to get my copy back from a friend so that I can reread it in the right mindset, to get a better understanding of the book.

Anyway, I don't mean to make it sound bad, it's absoultely wonderful, just understand that it's not for everyone. If you only like books that travel from point A to point B in a straight line, skip this one. But if you're prepared to be taken on a fantastic journey, traveling every way but straight, and to be released from any definition of reality, pick a copy up today!

Summary: Excellent
Review: Don't be swayed by the negative reviews, this is a great novel, thought provoking, imaginative, and well written. I think the reviewers coming from Motherless Brooklyn are resisting Lethem's efforts to pull them into a dream, where things aren't wrapped up into a tidy little package. This completes my reading of Lethem's works and I thoroughly enjoyed all of them.

Summary: Weak for a lethem novel
Review: Having devoured most of the lethem novels, i found this to be his weakest - the tops being Gun, with occasional music and Motherless Brooklyn. Yes, it's interesting and fantastical but if you are looking for any hidden meaning as people reading it have been i think you are out of luck. The ending explains the point of the novel and that is the annoying part as it is weak and sappy. I gave it a 3 as it wasn't a complete waste of time as he is such a talented writer and maybe the ending won't bother some people. However, if you haven't read American Gods by Neil Gaiman i would suggest spending the time reading it instead.

Summary: Lethem's weakest, and I've read them all
Review: I agree with the person below (above?) who says this plot is dull and pretty much goes nowhere. I was hugely disappointed in this book. "Gun, with Occasional Music" was the first Lethem book I ever read and I think think it stands alone as the most original and best-executed. It's funnier than hell most of the time and just an odd, good read. Amnesia Moon wasn't (although I have to take issue with the claim that the book has racist undertones. You really have to be looking for them to see any, and even then they're not there).

Summary: A modern fairytale
Review: I don't know what to tell everyone that "didn't get it", I can see how this book might perplex the masses, I however loved every moment. Like real life, not everything ends in a neat little package. I do wish Letham would write a sequal to this book, but it does come full circle in exactly the way it needed to. The entire book is about a mans self discovery, letting the reader in on what he finds. In the end he has direction and identity, the story has explained itself but yes, it does leave the reader wanting more. Letham is one of those authors that greys the lines between sci-fi, fantasy and true liturature. He is a strong writer with a diversified array of tallent and an amazing ability to simply tell a damn good story.

Summary: Confusing?
Review: I had trouble understanding this book. I'm not sure exactly what was going on. What was real and what was imaginary. I'm not sure what the author was trying to say either. I felt like I was missing the message but I'd have trouble reading it again. The plot (?) started well and the story kept me interested simply by the fact that I was hoping I would figure out what was going on. The ending still left me confused and wondering.
