Rating: Summary: Fornicating garbage! Review: This was awful. A poor attempt to imitate Terry Brooks, who is a medicore attempt at adding character growth to Tolkein. Don't waste your time. The writer's plot is poor, his vision stunted, his grammar clunky, and the characters make about as much emotional sense as cardboard. Bleh - save your money! I can only suppose Stanek has sold so many books by buying them himself.
Rating: Summary: Read KMT, KA then EQQ Review: I absolutely LOVE this series! The story is intricate, well-written, and the characters are great. You never know what might happen next and can't assume anything when reading these books. You are bound to be surpised. The characters are what I like best. NEVER in my life have I read a series that has more twists and turns. Robert Stanek uses an economy of words to paint vivid pictures. I could not put them down. If you wish to read the best fantasy series ever written its simple...buy this book and its predecessors. As many have already noted, Stanek doesn't follow typical epic fantasy conventions. Instead, Stanek gives us a strange new world where magic is being excised, men and evles are enemies, scheming among the great houses, and a world with its own parallels. As I;ve said, Stanek is unpredictable and it is difficult to guess where he's going with the story. He doesn't pull plot twists out of his hat though, as a second reading of any of his "Ruin Mist Chronicles" novels will reveal Stanek lays down the groundwork that leads up to the surprising plot turns. Elf Queen's Quest is broken up into different characters' points of view. And don't think that because a character has his own point of view that he's immune from Stanek's axe. As in life characters die and things change. The wait for the 4th book is making me crazy.
Rating: Summary: Fast, good...lots to catch your interest Review: It is awesome and my all-time favorite is Vilmos and Emel. I never thought I would and could actually love a character in a book. I really like his way of telling the story and moving the plot via the POV of the various characters.
Rating: Summary: Make room on the shelf next to Jordan and Martin Review: Mr. Stanek has written a great book and a worthy continuation to what is an exciting epic fantasy series. The characters come alive, and the authors heroes are heroic. The action combined with political intrigue makes for great reading and adds depth to a genre that can, sometimes be very predictable. Highly recommended!
Rating: Summary: Great story, looking forward to more Review: I haven't read any of the other books in this series, yet. I plan on doing so. This was a great story. The characters were very interesting and believable. I can compare this to George R. R. Martin's Song of Fire and Ice series. FireIce is detail oriented, flows well and has a larger cast of characters. Ruin Mist Chr. has a faster pace, the scenes move quicker, and the characters are well drawn. Definitely good fantasy with room for improvement.
Rating: Summary: Great characters and story Review: If you've enjoyed Stanek's previous work, you will love this one. If you've not read the first book in the Ruin Mist Chronicles, read that one and then Kingdom Alliance before you read Elf Queen's Quest. I am not saying you can't not appreciate this book without having read those, but reading in that order will give you a special appreciation for this one. I think what makes this book so great is that while it has action, horses, monsters, castles, knights, kings, queens, magic, it's also one of the few fantasy books to have more than one realistic character. All the main characters are "realistic" in the sense that they are motivated by a variety of desires and impulses. There are multiple plots that reflect on one another. The characters aren't flat or stereotypical. And it's so easy to slip into the story and lose yourself. This is a great book and very well written. If you like George RR Martin, I think you will especially appreciate this book. This book is better written than most and I like the series more than Jordan's Wheel Of Time. Thank you, Robert Stanek. I can't wait for the next one. Hurry please!
Rating: Summary: Terrific Review: This book is definetly a good book if you like fantasy/suspense books. It keeps you on the edge of your seat and has a good story line to it. Hopefully there will be more books to the ruin mist chronicles- good if you liked stories like Eye of the World or Thousand Orcs.
Rating: Summary: Puzzled Review: I was very puzzeled after reading the Ruin Mist Chronicles. I ordered the first three books as I like to have them at hand so I don't have to wait the read the next. Keeper Martin Tale was a good read but not anywhere near the quality of George Martins. The second book (The Elf Queens Quest)is pretty much the same book as the first. (Which is why I am puzzled) I actually thought it was Keeper Martins Tale packaged in the wrong cover. I plugged on and discovered it was a "slightly" different slant with a tad bit more of detail thrown in. The same applies to the third book (Kingdoms Alliance) They are all the same story told with a bit more detail each time. (No, I am not kidding!) (...) I am not sure what the purpose of this contant retelling of the story serves, someone please feel free to enlighten me. I would not buy another book by this author, I am mad I bought three, one would have been adequate.
Rating: Summary: Am I Missing the Point? Review: The first book in the series was decent (though similar to other good fantasy novels) and worth the read. However, I started this book and was amazed at how much text was exactly the same as the first in the series! I feel like there is only about 3-4 chapters of new material in the whole book.... I appreciate the effort to tackle new insights on writing.....but retelling the same story so closely just didn't work for me. I'm nearly done with it now, and its been a very boring read. There's just not enough (IMO) new detail to hold my interest. I'm surprised because I'm a very forgiving reader. I've almost quit reading it several times due to boredom. Only once in my life have I given up on a book....and this was almost number 2.
Rating: Summary: Solid reading Review: I would rate this 4 and 1/2 stars if I could. This is one story that will be so vividly imprinted on your mind that you will not forget. This book was truly phenomenal. I highly recommend it to anyone that loves, or even just likes Fantasy. In fact, I would even recommend it to people who have never even read Fantasy. I'd heard there wasn't much magic in these books, but was pleasantly surprised to see that there was more than I'd expected. A wonderful set-up of what is to come I imagine. I like that the magic and magic abilities are more subtle and makes it all seem so real and so completely believable!
