Rating: Summary: Intoxcatiling Good Review: This is the first J.V. Jones book I have read and I am impressed. The characters are well rounded and the action is good. This book had me on the edge of my seat. The vivid discriptions of the icy landscape were breath taking. It made you feel the misting of the characters breaths and the icy stings of the wind. It is an absolutly mesmerizing book.
Rating: Summary: Anxiously awaiting the second book Review: J.V. Jones does it again. Once you get past the first three set up chapters, you get sucked right into the story. She is a great one for interweaving story lines and characters, keeping everything very consistant. Loved it! (can't you tell?). Now, if she would only hurry up with the second book.......
Rating: Summary: This is a well-crafted page-turner from a major talent. Review: Ihave read and enjoyed all of Ms. Jones'books, but this one takes the prize. The only negative thing about it is the time it will take before the sequel is released. The characters are well defined:as an example, the introduction of the deadly female assassin, Magdalena Crouch is chillingly wrought. The plotting is the work of an outstanding talent. In a 736 page book, some drag time might be forgiven, but not here. This plot moves! Not to be missed!
Rating: Summary: Praise for the magnificent J.V. Jones Review: J.V. has outdone herself. I was slightly disappointed by the Barbed Coil after the spectacular Book of Words Trilogy, now J.V. comes back with a fist of thunder. A Cavern of Black ice is full of intrigue, likeable characters, and a great plot. If you read her books avidly and haven't read this yet, I promise you, the end will shock you so much you'll need a minute to recover!
Rating: Summary: Julie V Jones is growing ... Review: It is not often that you can see the author develop his or her style from one book to the other. It is so with Julie. The first trilogy is catching and gets more and more exciting as you turn the pages. The Barbed Coil, a good "in between the trilogy" book is a story that grasps you and makes you want to pick up and start painting yourself. With Cavern of Black Ice Julie Jones has reached yet a new level. I dare, as more reviewers already have done, call her name in one breath with the great ones like Robert Jordan and Melanie Rawn. "Cavern" freezes your fingers and stills the blood in the veins. "Cavern" is a thrilling epical story that promises so much for the sequel. "Cavern" is like an icebreaking tour through a snow and ice covered country that makes your breath mist in the air and your fingers freeze to the pages. Julie Jones has a very good eye for detailed description and heartbreaking tension. The plot is simple but brilliant and promises some good knotting in the next volume. Feel with the characters and dare to break the ice to travel underneath it (!): Read Cavern of Black Ice. It will astound all those loving a good fantasy tale!
Rating: Summary: Dark, Cold, and Hard...I Love It! Review: Jones has written a great book, again. This series takes a darker road than her earlier works, where the main characters make it out almost scott free. The main characters in this book get batered and bruised, and it is more realistic for it. This abuse also keeps you glued to the book trying to see whether the characters are going to make it or not. If you have enjoyed any of her other books, you will love this one. A Cavern of Black Ice is a cut above her first books as she has gained some experience. Jones is proving herself a seasoned writer.
Rating: Summary: An epic journey through ice, snow and personal nightmare Review: I must admit to be a real fan of J.V. Jones, she is a wonderful author who manages to transport you to her worlds with consumate ease. A Cavern of Black Ice is no exception. As an avid reader of fantasy I can honestly say I have never read an initial book in a trilogy that promises, and gives, as much as Cavern does. It is a sweeping plot set in an ice bound land that has you turning the heating up as you read it. Julie's character's are always excellent, they are believable, human and heroic (or of course demonic and vile!). In any of their guises you very soon become caught up in their epic struggle of good and evil with ancient magic. Cavern is a long book and so much the better for it, the pace is just right the plot and characterisation is given time to develop into a deeply woven and spellbinding epic. If you only buy one book this year make sure that its A Cavern of Black Ice, you won't regret it. Just make sure you wrap up real warm while you read or you'll have frostbite before you know it!
Rating: Summary: Truly J.V.'s best work yet. Amazing. Review: I have been reading Ms. Jones' books since her first. A Cavern Of Black Ice truly is an amazing fantasy, far different from some other books in the genre. She has become one of my favorites and deserves to be ranked up there with Goodkind, Brooks and Jordan. I am eagerly awaiting the Fortress Of Gray Ice.
Rating: Summary: Amazing, stunning, one of the best... Review: I love this book! The author is completely amazing! The world comes to life as you turn each page... The descriptions are so detailed, you can almost imagine you are there. You get to know the characters. You can feel what they experience. You'll be writhing in your seat, clinging to every word. It's one of the most amazing fantasy books I've ever read. Trust me, I've read a lot.... This book is GOOD!
Rating: Summary: Going North of The Four Kingdom's. Review: This is a excellent book with fully developed characters and wonderfull plotting that goes well beyond grade school fantasy. J.V, like Robin Hobbs and George RR Martin has once again put herself in the field of believable fantasy. For those who have read the book of word's trilogy you will be in for a shock as a particular character from the past resurfaces. I will not say anything more just read it and enjoy. 4 1/2 stars. I only give five stars for classic's that stand the test of time.
