Rating: Summary: Only wish it'd been longer Review: One of Pullman's shorter works, his dark yet excellent writing is still a joy in this teeny tiny novel.A strange story is told in a bar at night--about a prince who was so determined to have an heir that he replaces his dead infant son with a mechanical one, then goes to terrifying lengths to keep him alive. In the tradition of "Count Karlstein", this takes place in a wintery part of Germany and is full of shadowy darkness. Unfortunately, though the writing is excellent, it has none of the wacky dark funniness of "Karlstein." If you are a fan of Pullman, then this book is a must. Even if you are not, this is a nice way to spend 45 minutes on a rainy night!
Rating: Summary: Pretty darn good Review: Phillip Pullman's Clockwork is a pretty good book. It's cool how he puts together situations together to form a perfect rythm. If you like mysteries you'll probably like this book. It kind've keeps you on the edge. It makes you wonder.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book for relucant readers and fans of mild horror Review: Pullman did a wonderful job generating suspense that resolved quickly, only to be rekindled. Character development was somewhat lacking, but the story was entertaining and fast moving. Good selection for young reluctant readers 12-14. It may not hold the interest of older YA's
Rating: Summary: Tick Tock... Review: The book "Clockwork" is an interesting book. It is very easy to read, but also hard to follow. The books setting is a small town in Germany. A boy named Karl must invent a piece of clockwork to complete his apprenticeship. Karl does not make a piece but a strange man offers one to him. Karl soon learns that his killer piece of clockwork isnt good enough, and he steals a more peaceful one that looked like a boy. This was also from the strange man who gave him the first one. This causes more problems than Karl expected. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys complicated plots and short stories.

Rating: Summary: Taylor's wonderful magical review Review: This book is quite good, but it is a very easy read and can be done in one day. THe character's are average, but the story fits together nicely.
Rating: Summary: an eerie horror Review: This book is written for young adults, but the simpler style and child's perspective only add to the atmosphere for older readers. It gets its punch from clockwork-precise scene juxtapositions: something bizarre and inexplicable happens; the narrative switches to a different character a little earlier in the time flow and partially reveals the roots of the initial situation; you switch back to the last few seconds of the first scene, and the new layer of understanding sends centipides of ice skittering down your spine. It has a somewhat disappointingly fairy-tale ending, but it's an incredible scare until the last chapter.
Rating: Summary: AWESOME!!!!!!!!!! Review: This book rates on my BEST list, which not many books go under. The whole aspect of the book is like a puzzle - everything comes together, which I think is very original. I got SO interested in this book that I READ IT IN A DAY! This is a very good book for mystery and horror lovers, which I am. I hope you like this book as much as I did!!!
Rating: Summary: This book rocks! Review: This book ROCKS!!!!! It has adventure, mystery, and horror!! It may not be suitable for all ages (some "violent" events, and very descriptive scenes that aren't always "happy") and in my opinion, children nine years and older should read it because It is one good book!!! Here is a sample from the book that got me hooked. "No! No! Stop-wait-the tune-let me whistle the tune-" But his lips were too dry. Frantic, he licked them with a dry tongue. No use! He couldn't product a sound. Near and nearer the little knight came..... Does the little knight use his sword to hurt the man, or does the man get away? Why does he need to whistle, and why does that seem to save his life. You HAVE to read this book!!
Rating: Summary: An Easy But Good Read Review: this book was good. I thought it was very creative but a little scarry. Thank you Phillip Pulum. IF YOU HAVEENT READ THIS BOOK READ IT!
