Summary: A Smart, Funny Science Fiction Comedy
Review: You don't have to be a physicist or chemist to enjoy this hilarious tale of unrequited love, that is also a fine meditation on love. Although the setting is contemporary, it is science fiction due to its premise; a physicist creates a wormhole in his laboratory with some rather unsuspecting results. Credit Lethem for taking a plot that could come from a vintage 1930's pulp science fiction magazine, and giving it a funny, contemporary twist. He writes vivid, yet sparse, prose, which crackles with humorous detail on every page. Those familiar with Lethem's other science fiction may find it a bit jarring, but I can assure you that it is well worth reading.
