Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: I wanted to like this, but. . . Review: I wanted to like this book, but in the end I did not. From the beginning, it is clear that the author knows how to put one word in front of another. The problems are with the plot and the characters. There are too many seemingly gratuitous plot twists. For example, two of the main protagonists are the Champion, and the Moonsword. But at times during the book, the questions of who is the Champion, what is the Moonsword (and how is it made), have different answers. And, despite what we are led to believe for all but the last few pages of the book, did the Champion make the Moonsword? The most basic rule of a fantasy novel is that the author makes the rules of the universe he or she creates. The author cannot violate her own rules and expect the reader to feel entertainment rather than frustration (my reaction when I finished). This book could have been good, but it was not.
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: A disappointment Review: I'm not sure how I stumbled upon this self-published book, but I do like fantasy literature and the reviews were so raving about its groundbreaking and masterful storytelling I picked it up on impulse. While the book was not horrible, I must say it was marred by plotting that was rather hackneyed and disjointed. Major events happen with little buildup or warning. The characters mostly seem two-dimensional. The language is often odd and strained, with weird word-choices (like "disgustingness," just for example). Nor do you get a strong sense of time or place that these characters inhabit--describing the world it takes place in seems almost an afterthought. A love interest between two primary characters is central to the book, yet the explanation for how they fall in love is very disjointed and abrupt, and you never get a strong feeling for the romance between the characters, there's no buildup to passion. The sex scenes are also rather airy and vague and not particularly passionate. I've seen finer fantasy writing by countless authors. Nor is the "twist" of a male-to-female character all that interesting. Although I've never seen that done particularly well except in comedies, I've seen it done better than here. I think Ms. Hignutt has the potential to be a good fantasy writer but I feel this effort falls flat. Those who like the transgendered theme for its own sake will probably enjoy this, but those looking for a solid and enjoyable fantasy adventure for its own sake will probably want to look elsewhere. Hignutt so far has not lived up to the potential she shows in this book. Interesting concept, flawed execution.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Ground-breaking fiction with a fantastic twist Review: In her debut novel, Diana Hignutt plunges the reader head-over-heels into a stunningly original tale of adventure and romance. Moonsword is a rollicking story set in a mystical world, inhabited by an engaging population of trolls and demons, and lushly portrayed by an author who has the rare ability to make her fantasy world come to life. The mood is set with an ancient Druidic prophecy which foretells the extinction of humanity. Only one person on earth can prevent the End of the World: dashing prince Tolian, heir to a mighty throne, and a man's man. When Tolian is captured by a strange sisterhood of Druids, he learns to his horror that they have a desperate plan to prevent the approaching calamity. Through their sorcery, they intend to turn him into a woman and send him into battle as their Champion against the demonic Perelisk, who is hell-bent on ending the world. Hignutt manages to put real flesh and blood into her fantastic characters, and real emotions into their tormented souls. Through a unique blend of royal formality and everyday colloquialisms, she imparts an endearing humanity to them, making their hopes and struggles genuinely compelling. That is an achievement of the first order, and one can only hope for more of the same from Diana Hignutt.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A magical tale of transformation Review: Prince Tolian is a hero of mythic stature whose birth was foretold in an ancient prophecy, but the handsome young prince knows nothing of this prophecy until he is kidnapped and forced to begin a quest to retrieve a magical sword and defeat an evil demon set on conquering the world. That opening premise may sound like a few other fantasy quest novels you've read, but as you read on, you'll quickly discover you're in for a wonderful surprise. Moonsword is a fantasy novel of stunning originality. The hero, Prince Tolian, starts his quest as a male and ends it as a female. Tolian is forced into this magical transformation against his will by Druids. At first he hates being a female. But it is only by submitting to this transformation that he can save the world from the demon. The prophecy states the demon can be killed by no man and by none born female. Tolian is made even more miserable by the fact that he has fallen in love with the beautiful Druidic priestess Brythia, but cannot act on his love since he is now a woman. Tolian doesn't have long to feel sorry for herself though, because the demon is real. She is soon forced to set off on a quest for the magical moonsword that will help her defeat her evil foe. Many fabulous adventures befall Tolian and her companions, and her inner journey is equally fascinating as she struggles to come to terms with her unexpected and unwanted sex change. Trolian's story is a powerul and compelling, but Moonsword offers the added bonus of a wealth of colorful secondary characters from the author's vivid imagination who come to wonderful life on the pages. As Tolian and her friends make their final stand against the conquering demon and the hour seems dark, help comes from a totally unexpected quarter. Once again, the plot takes a brilliant and unexpected twist. Author Diana Hignutt weaves the book's many threads together in a marvelous tapestry of enchantment that you will remember long after you read the final page.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Moonsword Review: Save your time and money and just read a story on Fictionmania. How this book got published is beyond me. The story line is full of holes and every page oozes amateurism. The lead up to the battle and the battle itself leaves you wishing you would have left this one on the shelf. As far as the ending, it's just an endorsment of the authors lifestyle. Please, don't waste your time. Really, it's bad.

I don't know what book Franklinville NY read, but I thought this one had all the elements of an epic. Hignutt knows her plot twists, she has incredible ideas. The story moves quickly and you have to keep up. Moonsword rules!!!!
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Pooly written Review: This was one terrible book. The author didn't even attempt to develope the characters. The main story is about the hero constantly complainting about being stuck as a woman. The ending stinks, it's over in a blink of an eye without telling us anything about the characters, good or bad. The whole book is more like something that was submitted on a first year writting course. The plot needs to be more than just about being angry about changing sex.
