Rating: Summary: Marvel's weak answer to Crisis on Infinite Earths Review: The previous reviewer who ridiculed the behind the scenes "brainstorming" of Marvel's editors probably isn't too far from the truth. I remember when this series came out and how it was put out around the same time as DC's Crisis on Infinite Earths on purpose and I also recall reading a Mile High Futures review that panned Secret Wars as a blatant attempt to compete with Crisis rather than come up with a great story that would bring the Marvel Universe together for some cosmic menace or something equally absurd. The Beyonder has to be the most contrived "villain" ever and the point of this story is that there is no point other than the strange Beyonder who has infinite power, but doesn't understand humans! He couldn't just read their minds or absorb a brain or something? The peripheral stories that took place after the Secret Wars ended were far better such as how Colossus dealt with his "love affair" in the X-Men and how Spidey got his alien costume in Amazing Spiderman. Mike Zeck's art is kind of weird (what's with the narrow ankles and massive thighs?!) but I thought it was still not bad (his better work was on Captain America where JM DeMattis penned some good stories and on the Punisher miniseries with Steve Grant). The problem is the dopey story by Jim Shooter. For 12 issues we get the heroes and villains getting played like chess pieces by the Beyonder and that's it! Nothing happens of any consequence other than a great deal of pining and whining and sporadic battles as the heroes are led by Captain America as their general versus Dr. Doom and company. I'm simply amazed that this book has an overall average that is so high! There's just no justice in this world! Please don't give Marvel any more money for this stupid series. Even as a kid I thought it was garbage, but in those days I paid .60 cents and used to buy a bunch of comics so it wasn't a big deal. No way am I paying for a tradepaperback for this junk now though. Go buy the far superior Crisis on Infinite Earths. You'll thank yourself in the morning.
Rating: Summary: worth the the money. Review: This book is cool. It has Spider-Man, Reed Richards, Human Torch, The Hulk, The Avengers, Iron Man, She Hulk, the X-Men, Galactus, and Magneto in it. The villains are The Lizard, Dr. Octopus, Dr. Doom, the molecule man, the absorbing man, and many others. Whichever side wins gets what it wants by the Beyonder. It's the biggest battle ever fought by the Marvel Super Heroes. This also has Spider-Man's Symbiote costume in it. You should get it.

Rating: Summary: Huge battle of good vs. evil Review: This is a classic marvel crossover that has a simple plot. Good guys vs. bad guys. It's really cool seeing so many characters all come together for a bunch of huge battles. This is the first appearance of the black 'venom' suit too.
Rating: Summary: A GREAT book. A must have! Review: This is a definite must have item if you really love Marvel Comics. It is a chance to read a great series that you might not have before. I didn't get to read the Secret Wars storyline when it first came out. The Trade Paperback is a great way to read this great story. Plus it is the first time we see Spidey's cool black costume!.
Rating: Summary: worth the the money. Review: This is one of the best crossovers ever. In it members from the X-men, Avengers, and Fantastic Four, get transported to a planet with the Hulk, Spider-man, Iron man, and Captain America. Also transported to the planet are a bunch of villians from Dr. Doom to Galactus. They were transported by the beyonder, to a planet perfectly custom to all of their needs (easy weather control for storm), with one simple task, "Slay your enemies and all you desire shall be yours". And a great many fights ensue. This features the first appearance of Spider-man's symbiote costume, the second spider-woman, and has the rebirth of Klaw. This book is good, especially towards the end. But at some times is a little etchy. Over all it's worth picking up
Rating: Summary: The Great Battle Review: This is one of those stories you can read for the pure enjoyment of reading. Secret Wars was the original 12 part mega epic comicbook tale. All of the major players from Marvel were involved from Spider-Man to Dr. Doom, from Wolverine to Galactus. All taken to a strange new world which the characters call Battleworld. The point of the story is for the Beyonder (an all powerful being) to find out which side is better good or evil. So he pits Earth's greatest heroes against the best villains. What ensues is an all-out Marvel Superhero millitary campaign. With fun developments along the way: Spider-Man's Black Costume, the introduction of a new Spider-Woman, The X-Man Colossus falling in love with one of the inhabitants of battle world. All had far reaching impact on future Marvel books.I thrilled when I finally collected all of the original issues of this series. A very fun read for any one looking to enjoy a great super heroe adventure. I don't know why the other reviewers chose to knock this book I guess they don't like heroic epics.

Rating: Summary: OVERBLOWN Review: This maxiseies is one of the most overblown and overrated superhero stories ever.It is basically just a massive fight scene and the most interestingpart of the story, Doctor Doom usurping the Beyonder's power is underdeveloped and lacks resonance. The way Doom is defeated is also unsatisfying. It is not a worthless comic but it is pretty bad.
