Summary: a recycled storyline
Review: While I enjoyed the storyline, Has anyone noticed the profound likeness to the Spellsinger Series by Alan Dean Foster?

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: I'm very disapointed. I expected something much better.
Review: When I bought this book, I couldn't even finish it I got so bored. The first and second chapters are okay, but then it only goes down hill.

Some of the reasons I disliked this book are that (A), It couldn't hold my attention, and (B). Almost every other chapter the author switched to past tense, or they talk like your right their watching everything happening. I think this would be a better book if the author could make up their mind about which one to use.

Summary: Marvalous, a brand new series of exalance
Review: The power one can calls up in thier imagination is astounding. It is even more so when they can convert it to paper. The discriptive lay of modern technology in masses instead of one person is a large step in the detail of the whole thing. With the assoisation between student and teacher, I am overwelmed by the correctness of this stament. If you were being taught by anyone exept those who you would follow off a clif to wield a power that can turn them to cinders, You would probibly fry them too death. The downside was the casual attude of those near her. If I was the Prophet of Music, I would pay a dozen sorrcerers thier weight in silver to protect me. I would have done that or executed all that new how to put two notes togeather. The only magical novles I can compaire (on a scale of QUAILITY, NOT BEACAUSE THEY ARE ALIKE) are the Death Gate and the Lord of the Rings. If the sequel of this book was found too be a dry novel of blandness, I WOULD SCREAM. If it were another novel like the worse parts of the Cleric Quintet (No offence, but in some parts of R. A. Salvatore, you with that it would kill someone off to see if they were ALL Immortal. That shows the improvement in "The Demon Awakens" because not once does he ressurect someone!) Once again the master of Third person present pulls it off in tantalizing tidbits of the not-present companies. Thank you for takeing your time to read this and I hope I did not ramble or misspell too many words "Jugde me all you want, but keep your verdect to yourself!"

Summary: About what I'd expected
Review: I've read several of the Recluce series books, and thought I'd try something else by Modesitt. There really isn't a great deal of difference between this books and those in the Saga of Recluce, however. There's still the same alternation between the main plot and chapters dealing with leading figures around the world. There's still the same pressure forcing the main character along the plotline. There are even references to "orderspelling" water. But there are some differences between this book and the Saga, however. The obvious one is the setting--just another ordinary-person-from-our-world-transported-into-an-alternate-dimension-where-magic-works-by-music-or-poetry situation instead of the fairly original Recluce setting. And there's one other difference I noted. Anna's "lutar" has more strings than Ayrlyn's.

Summary: A riveting musical MASTERPIECE!
Review: In this beutiful, masterful work of art by Modesitt, a young, beautiful woman is taken from earth by a spell. The world that she ends up in is one ruled by musicians who are able to cast spells through songs.

Through new and refreshing ideas about the casting of magic, Modesitt draws the reader into the book, and one finds oneself singing along with the characters. The intriguing songs and epic heroism of the heroine are enough to make one unable to put this book down and read it in one night, as I did.

Summary: It ain't over 'till the ....
Review: Well, it will never be over then, in this book, because doing magic keeps you skinny and in need of huge quantities of food.

The book is a typical, for this genre, "Yanked from the real world" sort of fantasy. As usual, the person is yanked for a <insert italics> PURPOSE.

Ok, it's formula. It's also entertaining, and it has enough villians, and a good enough understanding of realpolitic to make it entirely enjoyable, formula or not. Good airplane reading, I'm looking for the sequels for my airplane trip tonight.

Summary: A major disappointment
Review: I started the book with great expectations and was very disappointed. The plot was almost non-existent and the characters almost unbelievably shallow.I expected this to be a start of a new gripping fantasy-saga but this book was not even close. If you want to waste your time read this one.

Summary: Intro to an author is a pleasure...
Review: If a book is meant to entertain, this is a success. If a book is meant to make you care about characters, this is a triumph. If a book is meant to keep you up late, this is a tremendously victorious tale. For three consecutive nights, I sat in my room, dark except for the dim table lamp, covers wrapped around my shoulders and eyes busilly scanning page to page. I glanced at the clock every half hour, telling myself this would be my last chapter until 3am hit, and I kicked myself away from this endearing soprano. She isn't sure of herself, she MAKES herself do things. Like so many musicians, she puts herself into her music, hence, her spells are a part of her. This totally engrossing book kept me up until I finished it (as all my co-workers can tell you) and I recomend it to anyone who likes both fantasy and the magic of music.

Summary: Very intriguing and creative on the part of the writer.
Review: I think that this was a very cleverly and creatively written book, and anyone who thinks that the spell-casting theory is dumb and gave this book a 6 for a rating must be one heck of a dip, but i won't go into that. The Soprano Sorceress was a book about courage, wits, and, of course, singing. It is the perfect book for any fantasy OR science fiction lover. Read it.

Summary: It was great
Review: I enjoyed this book alot. It was one of those books that makes it feel as if you are part of the surroundings of the book, and are witnessing the story happening right in front of you. I also enjoyed how it showed that women can be powerful too.
