Rating: Summary: What book are you guys reading? Review: As I read the reviews of Path of Daggers, I am disturbed by the lack of attention that most people seem to be paying to the story. You guys piss and moan cause Matt doesnt get mentioned, does anyone care that in a previous book, Perrin wasn't mentioned? Someone even said that Eladia was only mentioned once in this book!! Pay some attention! You didn't notice that every time the story moved to Tar Valon, she was whining about something, I thought she was mentioned too much. Most of you seem to want the story to end, why? It's not like all you did for the past two years while waiting for this book was sit on your hands and do nothing, did you really sit down and worry yourself to sleep wondering when ths book would be released? I THINK NOT! So stop bitchin!! The book as usual, was excellent. I admit, not a lot was accomplished but that's OK, I'm not going to cry about it. When the next book comes out I'll buy that one too! Get a life and stop worrying about who does what in which book!
Rating: Summary: this book could use some action Review: First of all, where's Matt? And what exactly are "the paths of daggers"? no where in the book is the title referred to (as in the others). I waited nearly two years for a book that rambles on aobut a bunch of old hens and Rand acting like a schmuck!! If Mr. Jordan ever reads this I only ask that either you write your books faster as you did in the beginning or you add more action (like the shadow rising). I will gladly read everything you publish if you just did one or the other. As for my review, WAIT!!! Read the others several times over a period of 2 years for his next book and buy this one. Or wait for the paperback, you'll save money and time that way.
Rating: Summary: The Path of Daggers fits perfectly with the book series. Review: Unlike most people who waited two or years for this book to come out, I had not read book 6 or 7 either. I read all three books over my Christmas vacation. The Path of Daggers fits perfectly into the series. A couple of things are resolved, a couple of pretty interesting new plots threads open up, especially in the Prologue, and the last chapters keep you hanging on every word. The book also has one of the best cliffhanger endings that I have seen. The only problem I had with the book is all of the new characters (especially nobles or people in armies) that were introduced and used alot. With all the new/similar names of characters my mind tends to slide around the names when I'm reading. However, I wouldn't change a word of the book if I could...
Rating: Summary: nothing happens in this book Review: The problem with this book is that nothing interesting happens. In a good book dramatic tension is built up throughout the book and is resolved toward the end of the book. The end of this book (apart from the ultra-cheesey last chapter about rumors) could have happened anywhere in the book, and it would have made just as much literary sense. The entire eight book series has been one long steady decline of interesting events. The first two books were action packed and exciting. Things went downhill after that. Books three through seven all followed the same pattern. Robert Jordan would ramble on for about 500 pages realize that his book should be about through, and then include an exciting battle at the very end of the book usually with one of the Forsaken. Book 8 however, wasn't even that exciting. Sure the murder attempt on Rand and Faile's kidnapping were interesting, but they certainly didn't justify five hundred pages of nothing. At this rate the next book will be 500 pages of Rand twiddling his thumbs, then jumping to Elayne twiddling her thumbs, then jumping to Perrin twiddling his thumbs, etc. In my opinion, Robert Jordan is just trying to squeeze every last drop of money out of this moribund series that he possibly can by drawing it out far longer than he should.
Rating: Summary: how's it going to end Review: originally the series was only supposed to have 8 books. However jordan decided to extend it when the plot became too complicated or possibly when the books started to make money. Now it does not look like all the loose ends can be tied up in less than 12 books. It is slow reading. Rand isn't introduced until halfway through the book. Mat never even made an appearance. Although the book was very slow it did provide a level of detail and complexity that is wonderful. The series would probably be better if all the books were written at this pace. However I don't know how much longer the series can hold interest. And I fear to predict that the series will end abruptly without any clear resolution.
Rating: Summary: Oh, what might have been.... Review: I really hate to give this book only 3 stars. It could have been so much more. The book came out a few weeks before finals, so I had about 2 days to read it. I have to admit, I felt a bit let down. Just a bit mind you. I understand that it is difficult to make plot line progress when all of your main players are off on thier own. It is not like the first few books when everyone was together or in a few groups. Still, even considering this I still want to know how it ends. I remember the feeling I had waiting for the Crown of swords to come out. That feeling you used to get as a little kid when you went to bed on christmas eve. I do not really get that feeling any more. I guess it could be me getting older or the story getting old. I still loved the book and the series. It just does not seem the same anymore. Maybe the next book will make me feel differant.....
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: I dont know how he does it. His work is great. I started reading the boks about 2 monts befor this one came out. The only reason I didnt read them all in one week is because I couldn't afford them and had to earn money. The only thing I didnt like is the fact that everything happened at the end...it should have been more spread out.
Rating: Summary: I'll go crazy before Rand does if this pace keeps up! Review: After two years of waiting, this book is a big disappointment. The parts that further the plot towards Rand's final conflict are few & lost among a huge amount of detail that have me worrying that I will die of old age before Rand ever gets there!
Rating: Summary: 25 bucks is a bit steep Review: Well, I spent my $24.95 on Jordan's latest. Let me summarize what pretty much everybody seems to be thinking. First, it's not all bad. There are good parts, and it's worth reading if you've read the others. But the main problem is the fact that there isn't any character developement; the whole book seems to take place over a few months, where lots of women, some we've never met, have a lot of different problems. We don't come any closer to any sort of real conflict. It used to be a one for one trade off between good guys and Forsaken, and now we have two books without anything new. Please give us something new and exciting!
Rating: Summary: A bad rap for a good book Review: I have read the path of dageers and the reviews posted by the other readers. My only advice to them is to read it agian. I think they were in to big of hury and expecting too much from the book. People are saying that the plot doesnt further any. I was just wondering wha tbbok they read. Not every book can end with one of the forsaken dieing or a startiling revelation the series would end to quick. In this book Jordan does an excellent job of furthering the plot. His new characters including Osan'gar, Cyndane and Moridrin are great. People are claiming that Jordan should have given more information on them. I dont think so. There a sub plot. The backround there supposed to be mysterious!! The whole point of the forsaken is that we like the characters dont know what is going on. I thought the way Rand learned from his battle with Seanchan and the viewings mid told did an excellent job in furthering the seiries. The purpose of a good series like WOT is not to answer the questions of the last book but to buld up a series of events that all come together in the end. People who didnt like this book just didnt read it closely. A for Matt we can only assume the Seanchan have him which if you remeber back far unuff to past clues thats supposed to happen. I honestly didnt miss him in this book. I think this book was great, Egwene gains control, rand gains the aid of the Sea folk and more is revealed about him needing Cadsuane, Elayne puts in her bid for the throne and Perrin takes another step towards rebuilding Manatheran. I am even more intrested in the series after reading this book than I was before I got to book eight. I can only hope people who didnt like it read it again and dont look for so many answers enjoy the story. Its not Jordan's job to answer you questions its Jordans Job to make sure his charachters are ready for Tarmon Gai'don. I am anxiously awaiting book nine.
