Rating: Summary: One of the best books I've ever read Review: I read this book about four months ago and it held me mesmerized
from the first page to the last. The way that Melanie Rawn
put this book together is superb. Her characters come to life in my mind as I read, and I felt as if I had my own little part in the story. The way I rate books is if I can
feel the story going on around me, and I care what happens
to the characters then it is a good book. This is one of the
best books I've ever read!!! I have been anxiously awaiting
the release of the second book in this series so that I can
see what happens next. Even though I read this book four months
ago it was so well written that the story is with me still.
I can remember every part. I would recommend this book to ANYONE who likes to read.
Rating: Summary: A brilliant blend of politics and magic Review: This book doesn't have too much of the hard-to-understand magic
spells and unpronounceable names that are common complaints about
fantasy books. While magic is quite the order-of-the-day, the main
plot revolves around engrossing politics and well-developed relationships
among the characters. While the romance was disappointingly low-key :),
and there were some rather predictable best-friends-die's, the book
has a terrific and well-ended plot. Thankfully, the book didn't stop
halfway into the story and my withdrawal pangs won't be too bad.
Rating: Summary: An excellent story in the realm of fantasy. Review: There are few books that I will read over and over
and recommend to other people. EXILES is one of them!
Melanie Rawn keeps the awesome story telling going, as the
latest series followng the Dragon Star sereies.. Her books
are on my favorite list with Tolkien, Robert Jordan, Raymond
E. Feist...
Just go and buy it!
Rating: Summary: one of the best fantasy books I have read in a long time.... Review: Exiles: the ruins of Ambrai is easily one of the best fantasy books that I have read in a long time. I can not wait untill its sequal comes out.
Rating: Summary: Enchanting, Hard to stop reading!! Review: Melanie Rawn's best work I've seen!! I couldn't put it down
each person is detailed very well and for people who like Ramond Fiest she gives a ambiance of this. From magic to fighting
to love the book has it all. i cant wait for the next book!!
Rating: Summary: Very good read - complex, imaginative, hard to put down. Review: This was a very enjoyable read! The style of writing and the plot complexity is comparable to Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time series, without being a clone. I found
the book to be better written and more compelling than the
Dragon Prince and Dragon Star Trilogies by the same author
(and I enjoyed those series, so it seems to me the author's
skills have improved). Exiles : Ruins of Ambrai was remarkably difficult to put down. The story of a world of
political intrigue, magic, corruption, fanatism and
rebellion - all these elements are used to create that
oxymoron, a believable fantasy. Personally, I'm anxiously
awaiting the second book of the Exiles series.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: One of the best new books I have read in the past couple
years! This book will draw you in and not let go until
its conclusion!
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Read! Review: I love this book! I have read it over and over, to the point that my book has fallen apart. Great characters, adventure, magic,it doesn't get better than this.
Rating: Summary: Hard to put down!!! Review: This book is sooo captivating, even to a teenager. i really enjoyed her putting it in a martrachial world instead, becoming different from other books. Sarra, Glenin, and Cailet were charachters that were hard to understand until your about halfway through the book. Melanie Rawn write well, with complex, twisting plots that hold you spellbound until the end. i recomend this book to anyone who can sit still for a lenghty period of time. this is a must read!!!
Rating: Summary: Intricately detailed society and characters. Review: I liked "The Ruins of Ambrai", it is definitely different from what I'm used to reading. One of the best things about the book is the matriarchal society, which is a riot. I loved every aspect of it. It is hysterical the way she turns the tables on certain things. Another reviewer mentioned the bower custom and that they were disgusted by it, but I thought it was brilliant! If you want something to be disgusted by, look at the parallel of the bower custom in our own world - I find that to be the truly tasteless thing. I wish more books would have matriarchal societies that are so detailed and thought out as Melanie Rawn's.Rawn establishes the major characters by telling their stories seperately. It was annoying to be pulled away from one character to go to another, but never for long. The way each of their lives unfold is intriguing. They are each on unique paths that will inevitably intertwine. Rawn's characterization is extremely skillful. They are never portrayed in a black and white fashion in which they are only good or evil. Although it was a good book, I had to read certain parts over several times. "The Ruins of Ambrai" can be confusing at times. The character's motivations to do certain things aren't always clear. You will also be inundated with complicated names of characters who aren't vital to the story. I had expected the second book in the series, "The Mageborn Traitor" to be the same way but I found none of these things to be a problem. For the length of this book, it could have been better. But I don't think anyone should pass it up. If you like this one, the second one is **ten times better!**
