Summary: A solid beginning to a fine trilogy
Review: This is the first installment to a great trilogy. Granted, it may take a bit to get thtough the first 50 or so pages, once you get into it, you won't be able to put the book down..... Nor the next two.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: If you don't like this book you have must the IQ of a peanut
Review: This trilogy is the best I have ever read! I read the Sword of Shannara stuff and Tolkien's books and they don't amount to a pile of beans in comparison! I love Friedman's dark, gothic atmosphere and her magnificant original world. I have and would recommend this to any SF reader out there!

If you have any taste in good literature and have not read the Coldfire series yet you should be picking up your copy of Black Sun Rising today!

NOTE: I hope she makes it a movie/game...although I don't think it'd have the full effect...but the thought's entertaining :)

Summary: reasons to read
Review: This book is the only 500+ page book I have ever read in a week and the last 100 pages had me on the edge of my seat. The plot twists are not seen until they happen and it is write in a way that pulls you into the story and you don't want it to end. A must read!!!

Summary: May be the finest art I've ever read.
Review: I would be willing to stack this series up with Lord of the Rings. I never thought I'd find anything as good as Tolkien's masterpiece, but those books now share pride of place on my shelf with the Coldfire trilogy.

On the surface, this book and the ones that follow it are immensely entertaining. Especially if you're someone who's into Gothic literature (real Gothic, not Goth, though it works that way too). Dark, elegant, sensual, with (get this!) an Anti-hero who doesn't constantly whine about his lot in life. The characters are spectacularly developed, the system of magic is very original, the world is vibrant, and there's a plotline with twists that just won't quit! It's almost impossible to predict what's going to happen, even for a veteran fantasy/sci-fi reader (trust me, I know!).

As good as they seem on the surface, however, the true worth of these books comes out when you begin to delve into the symbolism (much like Lord of the Rings, actually). There is obvious Christian, Catholic symbolism, of course. After all, you're dealing with both a priest and the founder of their religion. There's much more subtle movement going on, as well. If you're not someone who cares for theology and such, then the symbolism can simply be used to enhance your appreciation of the characters. If, on the other hand, you like to sink your teeth into a good philosophical debate, then these books were made for you!

My one disappointment was that the end of the trilogy seemed not quite to fit with the rest of the story. In any other series this would be worth nothing more than a shrug and sigh. In a work that attains such near perfection, however, I find it a tragedy. Ah, well. I suppose that's Friedman's Persian flaw.

Summary: Enthralling image of a dark world where people fear dreams.
Review: A better vampire has never been written. Lestat is a pansy chump next to Gerald Tarrant.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: absolutely topnotch!
Review: I couldn't put the book down! I had to know what became of the tragic hero the 'Hunter' before sleeping that night! I'm looking forward to finishing the last two in the series....

Summary: Must Read
Review: This book is one of the best's books I've read. The plot is gripping and I couldn't put it down.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A riveting fantasy, dark and sensual.
Review: At the center of this novel is the tension between the two main characters. Tarrant, the delightful seductivly evil anti-hero, and Damien the warrior-priest. The must work together for the sake of their land. But will Damien be sane after compromising everything he believes in.

The other two books only get better, if that is possible. "Black Sun Rising" is many things, but formula fantasy it is not. The best part of this book is that it is not written at a sixth grade level. You will have to think to get the full flavor. If you are looking for something different try this wonderful work.

Summary: 5 stars..I think not
Review: I do not know why this book got so many 5 star ratings. The world is original, yet too much attention is given to mind power, while the so called "magic" is just too complicated.

The action in the story is void of any creativity at all, and the book is simply too long. It did not grab my attention at all, and I don't see how it could have grabbed anyones.

Save your money for something better...this book is a complete waste.

Summary: An Insight to our world and our power of belife
Review: I found that C. S. Friedman was one of the great authors of our time. A powerful efort to explain how our faith in our way of life. How would we react if everything we thought or belifed came into existance. If through our own power we could change reality. A portriat of choosing the lesser of two evils and redemtion of the blackest, and of our emotions and our worst nightmares
