Rating: Summary: Must Read For Any Fantasy Adventure Fanatic.... Review: Gemmell's excellent storytelling blends action, adventure, fantasy, religious concepts, new age mysticism and spirituality into one of the best books I have read in quite awhile. Since reading this book, I have read about 6 other Gemmell novels. His books not only tell stories, but also profess a code of honor to live by even in today's warped society. I could write 500 more words and not do this book (and series) justice. So I will just leave it at highly recommended read.

Rating: Summary: Gemmell returns to his roots Review: Having spent the last several days unable to put this book down I believe that Gemmell has returned to the formula that has made so many devoted fans happy for so many years. Having struggled through his last few books I am pleased to say that Gemmell has returned to the style that has bought us "Legend" and "Lion of Macedon" for me, two of the greatest works of Heroic Fantasy.Gemmell develops characters that you can immediately identify with and helps me especially think of becomming a better person. One could rave about the plot, the style, the characters, the brief but in depth descriptions, etc, and still not have said enough. Simply read, enjoy and try to take on the hidden agenda that is totally inherant with all of Gemmell's main Characters.
Rating: Summary: A story of men Review: I am a great fan of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series, and thought few authors could bring me such thrill. I was wrong. Those two novels (along with Midnight Falcon) about the Rigante Saga fills a void in my heroic fantasy experience. Where Robert's Jordan's characters bore on my nerves at times, David Gemmel's ones are embrassing their fate without foolish emotions. I came to tears more than once for the reader is lead to believe in the characters. This is the story of men, above that of a world. The magic stuff is not as intricate as Jordan's. I would have liked more insight on its nature. If you are a SF fan, then there are great reads awaiting for you.
Rating: Summary: Gemmell Is A True Find Review: I came across Gemmell while trying to search down another author named James Silke (Death Dealer novels). Although Silke has written nothing else than those primal books I read years ago, I've found that Gemmell has stepped in to fill that void for me. Sometimes I feel that Gemmell's works lack the structure of the most lauded prose authors, but he more than makes up for it in pure characterization and his embodiment of a rousing, dynamic, fantasy yarn. His tales are a seamless amalgam of Tolkienesque high fantasy and Howardesque sword and sorcery. READ as much GEMMELL as possible. You'll be happier for it. In fact, my only TRUE complaint is that I can't seem to put a thumb on what SEQUENCE to read my Gemmell novels! Other Gemmellites agree on this one? :-)
Rating: Summary: An interesting saga Review: I enjoyed this book for it's wonderful story of a young man who is controlled by destiny and a way of life. The Rigante are a warrior tribe who tended to rely upon their strentgh rather then their strategy. Then along comes Conn the Demonblade who goes around the world extracting revenge upon the killers of his friend, wife and also to protect friends. It's a little different then Gemmell's books involving the Druss and his people but that's because it doesn't go into as much detail in the battles as he (Gemmell) usually does. I wait for a chance to read the second book in this series and hope it is similar to the first.
Rating: Summary: Sword in the Storm Review: I found Sword in the Storm to be an exciting and envigorating read, if only I had thought to check his books out earlier I wold have discoverd his universe at a much earlier age. Now I can't wait to read it's sequal
Rating: Summary: A Poor Effort Review: I have little reason to be excited about this book. The storyline is undramatic, making the plot dull and boring. I never really got into reading it, and I came under the impression that Gemmell never really became passionate about writing it. There isn't any drama to his writing; he just tells what happens and that's that. The characters are generally undeveloped and thus uninteresting. It is crucial, in my opinion, to give the reader a reason to care about what happens to the characters, especially in the first book of a series. If I don't care about what happens to the main character what reason do I have to keep on reading? Gemmell does a poor job of building up his world, which in my opinion is the cardinal sin in the writing of a fantasy book such as this one. It seems that he only has it there as a place to have his characters walk around. I would redeem this usually, if the characters were likeable and multi-faceted I wouldn't mind at all. All in all this was a poor effort on David Gemmel's part. I won't be continuing this series.
Rating: Summary: HELLUVA STORM!! Review: I just finished this novel, and was very impressed with it. The 1st novel of The Rigante thus far, is by far the best novel written that I've tried from this author. Years ago I tried the Drenai saga, The stones of power series, The adventures of Waylander, The Jerusalem Man series, and could not get into them. But I liked Legend. Who didn't, it seems? So I will definately be getting more in this series, as well as Druss novels. This was a fun and fast-paced heroic fantasy novel, chock-full of interesting characters and action. A must read.
