Rating: Summary: great series! Review: great book, i've read all ten they never get old. (can't wait till her next one comes out!) This is a really great book for anyone who believes in rebirth. katharine kerr portrays it wonderfully as well as giving magic a more realistic look. Over all a great adventure and a very touching story of love. She really gives the term "sole mates" a new spin.
Rating: Summary: Entertaining but frustrating Review: I agree with the reviewer who mentioned somthing about the incest included in this book but once you get past that little bit, I must admit that I found it very entertaining. It was like getting 3 stories in one...all of which were interesting if not a little dark. Now the down side: The constant jumping of stories and time in this book was confusing and frustrating to say the least. It seemed like there was too much jam packed into one small book. The main plotline in the book was never developed enough so that I grew attached to the characters. I do think, however, that what was included in the book was well written and engaging. A Word to the Wise: Be content with reading just this first book in the series because the following ones are terrible. I was forced to drop the series after the first 3 or 4 because it was just too much to bear. So my advice would be to pick up this one because it is pretty good but to avoid the sequels at all costs. Trust me, they're not worth it no matter *how* much you want to know what happens next!
Rating: Summary: I loved it! Review: I am already looking for the rest of the series (I hate Detroit Libraries, they have the fourth and sixth Devverry books, but none else).
Rating: Summary: A refreshing change from Ultimate Good vs. Ultimate Evil Review: I had no problems with the writing quality of this book, and I rather enjoyed its unusual construction in which most of the book consisted of flashbacks to previous lives of the characters. But what I really remember about this book is the way the characters weren't divided into "heroes" and "villains". There were only humans, imperfect, flawed, but trying to do the right thing, some with more success than others. The way each character's efforts were affected by the invisible strands of destiny and by their past and future lives was really a beautiful thing to read. ...Thus I was all the more disappointed when I bought the sequel to this book and WHAM, Nevyn was a saint and the enemy was consorting with the Lords of Darkness themselves. But that's another book; don't let it impact your enjoyment of this one.
Rating: Summary: The best ever series that i've read Review: I have loved this book since i first picked it up, and ever since i have waited and waited to find out what will happen. When I started reading it it was like I was watching a movie, every time that I put the book down, it was putting it on pause. I love how it has everything in it. Love, heroism, war, triumph, sadness, and mystery. It is such a great book!
Rating: Summary: Good, but be warned.... Review: I have read this novel and the 3 other books in the series. I loved the first 3 and most of the fourth, but the ending completely ruined it. If you don't mind bad endings, then you're ok, but I feel that everyone deserves to be warned that the end of the series makes absolutely no sense before they choose to get started with the first book. Your choice.
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: I just read this book and it was done and gone within 24 hours. The charactors are so believable and the storyline doesn't drag. If you like fantasy this is a great book. It was nice finding another author after finishing Tara Harper and Mercedes Lackey books. Both of those authors are right up there with Kathrine Kerr on my list.
Rating: Summary: A very good book Review: I like it because it's the first of the long series and it is written well. I respect other reviews saying it is 'bad' but I think that Katharine Kerr is a excellent author.
Rating: Summary: This book is astonishing! Incredibly good! Review: I loved the book, from begginning to end. It wraps you up in the plot until you feel as though you live in this world. The scale of imagination put into this book and all the rest that follow it staggers me. All those that are not afraid of a little unorthodox writing and some outside of the norm magic will LOVE this book. The characters are great and the landscape is as real as it gets.
Rating: Summary: Unbelievably Disturbing...I can't rate it Review: I read this book a few months ago (two) and thought, I am NOT going to read the sequel! with admitted desperation. Today, I couldn't resist reading about other reader's feelings as I was browsing all over the book reviews. And I must say that I was SHOCKED that none of the people before me have even hinted at the dark side of the story. I have never written an online review before, but I decided to take A Reader From New Mexico's advice, and give a review that wouldn't just rail against the whole story, nor give it a Best Book In The World review. I didn't like this book because of the Incest factor. I mean, that was gross. I'm not just saying that superficially, but I really couldn't stand the desperation, twisted love and self-destruction that played out in the past. I would have stopped reading if I could. But I couldn't. I have never read a Katherine Kerr book, and may never do so again, and so I was totally unprepared for the force with which she grips the reader! I hated some parts like crazy, but I read every word to the end, because I gotta hand it to her, she's an excellent author! I mean, her writing style was page-turning and detailed, and I liked alot of her characters. I just dislike the story behind it all. Another thing, I didn't understand why everyone blamed Nevyn, for in my opinion he was the coolest of the cast. Okay, everyone makes mistakes in their youth, but his wasn't so bad, it was the Consequences, and Bronwyn's brother that were so troublesome. Okay, I know I'm going on and on now, but it's nice to get it all out.
