Rating: Summary: great idea Review: this book was great and dark and funny and scarey and perverse and delightful. Don't let the kids read it.
Rating: Summary: Very good Review: This novel was very easy to follow and was very intriguing over all. The Fairy was sinister and interesting at the same time. Good characterization as well!
Rating: Summary: Not Your Mother's Tooth Fairy Review: This Tooth Fairy is no gossamer-winged tart flitting about in agauzy pink dress. She's the cousin of the Monster-Under-the-Bed andshe's not one to be trifled with.Graham's Joyce drew me in withthis freshly twisted tale of a bedtime story gone wrong."Strange things happen to normal people" is not a new idea, nor is "mythical monster is really real but no one will believeit" but Joyce's gritty and realistic depiction of adolescenceentwined with embodied Fantasy is so disorienting and meaningful thatits originality is hardly a consideration. As mentioned previously, there is some extreme, explicitly sexual material in the book - sexualmaterial that concerns young boys. For this reason I would notrecommend it to children, teenagers or, for that matter, theirmothers. :) Anyone who may be offended by that material will mostlylikely loathe the book as a whole. Consider this a warning. Tothose who can stomach the adolescent sexuality I heartily recommendthis novel.
Rating: Summary: Not quite the Thrill book I was lookin for Review: This was an interesting book if you are looking to get into the heads of male youths. However, it is not a thriller or horror novel in the least. Thre were times when I skimed through paragraphs looking for more excitment. Book is also based in Europe, so some language and references were missed by me. I don't think I would recommend this book if you are looking for excitment or thrills.
Rating: Summary: Not at all what I expected ~ Review: This was one weird book! I don't think I'd ever read it again, and truthfully, barely got through it the first time. There was a lot of sex in in too, which was creepy in the context with The Tooth Fairy. Thumbs down.
Rating: Summary: A nice change in reading Review: When I saw this book on the shelves I was immediately drawn to it. Previously I had been reading a horde of sci-fi & fantasy "pulp" and it was really driving me crazy about the similar plots, etc, etc.. So, this book was really wonderful. I agree with some of the reviews in that the sensuality might not quite the "norm" but I do think it does well to reinforce the fairy's character. The fairy character is not your standard, typical figure. It is fleshed out in all dimensions. I believe it is sort of like a manifestation of a soul. It encompasses all facets of human emotion, and is neither good, nor evil, but simply "is." Maybe, in order to become the best person you can be, you have to give to others a piece of yourself. For some, that is a very difficult thing to do. Then again, this is just my opinion. I definitely think I have learned something from reading this book, and this is my first review I've ever posted. The other characters, Alice, Clive, Terry, each one was very well developed, so much that you could sort of sympathize with each one intimately. That, and the turmoil between the main character and the fairy, is what makes this book so attractive. Enjoy :)
