Summary: Girlish and racist, but it had some good parts
Review: I did read the whole first series, which must mean that it had something good about it. But I found that the author had a tendency to keep trying to hook up all her favorite boy characters with all her favorite girl characters, like a little girl playing with dolls.

As for the racism, there is a race of people in the book called, I think, the Merida. They live in the desert and have a rival claim to the same land as Rowan (the main character). It seemed that they were supposed to be analogous to the early Arabs in our world. We hear throughout the whole first series (I didn't read the second so I don't know if anything comes of it) how the whole race is evil, and how Rowan is bent on their genocide. We never see a member of this race except as an assassin, and never hear their side of the story. That strikes me as a rather juvenile way to handle politics.

The characterization of minor characters was a little sketchy, making them all seem to have the same personality at times. The bad guy is another one of those cardboard cutout villains, unsympathetic and cartoonishly evil. His daughters are evil, of course, because they inherited the evilness gene, or something like that.

Not a real deep story or meaning, but it was enjoyable enough light fantasy reading.

Summary: Good Book and A Great Six book set
Review: I thought this book was good, not as good as the books following it. I think the characters are good and well thoughtout. I read all six books in a matter of days, because I couldn't put it down. For anyone who loves scifi and likes some good twists to the story.

Summary: I really loved this book and the others after it
Review: Right now I'm reading "Stronghold" for the 3rd time and I've read the three before it many times. I haven't had the time or the money to buy "The Dragon Token" but I'm going to buy it soon. I hope Melanie Rawn keeps on writing the way she has and continues the tradition of good fantasy writing. I've loved reading ever since I was 5 when my mom taught me how to read.Every book that I've got my hands on that dealt with dragons I've read so far and I continue doing so till I die.

Summary: ouch
Review: I just don't buy any of the characters in this book. After I read it, I tried to pick up the next in the series but I fell asleep on my table at page 50.

Summary: Great book!
Review: This is one of the best books I eva read. I would give it 5 stars but then Camigwen, my fav character died. But it's still great! Great action, great humor and a great serie!

Summary: All I can say is WOW!
Review: When I first picked up this book I had just finished as series that I had absolutely fallen in love with. I never thought that any books would be able to compare to the ones I had just finished reading...I was wrong. Melanie Rawn's books inspired me to tears. Even just reading the reviews has sparked intense emotions. I loved Rohan and Sioned. How could you not? Sioned is the type of women that every girl wants to grow up to be like. But the thing that stood out most for me was the magic and the dragons. After reading these books I can't help but want to be a Sunrunner and a Sorceror. :^) OH yes..and I would LOVE more books...I agree with one reviewer...what is in store for Meig?

Summary: Had potential, but...
Review: The whole 'system' of magic in this book is wonderfully creative, hence the extra star. It's just a disappointment that the characters and plots aren't very good. You've seen all this before in any romance novel: everyone is good-looking (except the bad guys), everyone is noble and honest (except the bad guys), everyone always falls completely in love with someone who's perfect for them and ends up having 12 kids (except the bad guys)... please, can't there be anyone that stays single? Some of us like at least a little reality in these books. The gushy romanticism and sexual content get pretty excessive. Not that I'm blindly condemning them; they just need to serve the story instead of being gratuitous. But enough is enough. The ridiculous portrayals of men and women also got on my nerves: all the men are either sexist pigs or dreamy princes. All the women are the same. All the characters (male and female, regardless of age) talk about nothing but pairing each other up, as if it's some teen soap opera. Even if they're in the middle of a battle trying to avoid getting killed. Does anyone care about this? If it had concentrated on a real story here, this could have been a truly good book.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: not for readers with somewhat discriminate taste
Review: Ich, that's all i have to say. "Love" based on nothing more than a magicked destiny, dragons thrown in like legal reforms, villains with the whole maniacal laughter getup.....Reads like one of those cringe-worthy plotless young adult novels meant as pander for hormone-raging, socially unbalanced, desperate and sex-deprived teenagers. complete lack of actual legitimate, meaningful content. not even worthwhile as escapist fiction, because it strains so hard at posing as a real look at human nature. a sad attempt.

Summary: One of the best series ever written
Review: I really liked this series. It got me back into reading. I wasoverseas, just joined the Air Force and could not understand theGerman TV stations. My roommate had the first 3 books in the series. I started reading to kill time and then fell in love with the whole world. I found myself going to bed early just to read. I hadn't read for fun in years. That was 8 years ago, I am still reading today, as much as possible and enjoying it more all the time. I bought the entire Dragon Prince series and the Star Scroll series as well and still have them today. I recommend them to anyone interested in Sci-fi/fantasy. Outstanding Author, Fantastic Reading.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Not bad, for a first attempt---not good enough, though.
Review: This was one of those comemorable first attempts that should have been a blueprint to the author of what NOT to do. It's an ok, unoriginal story, but if this had been the first Melanie Rawn novel I encountered, I would have been GREATLY discouraged from reading another. In any case, it's definitely not one fo those books I'd ever read twice, more the kind that would make me shudder were I to pass it again.
