Rating: Summary: 99,999,999,999,999 stars! Review: This is the start of one of the best series ever!!! You have got to get this book if you like Star Wars. Me and my friend always race to get the newest book.
Rating: Summary: Awesome action and romance! Review: A great story. Marred only by the excessive violence and undertones of sexual violence which the author seems determined to insert. No wonder Dave Wolverton was fired and Jude Watson brought in to continue the series (not that she does a much better job, she seems determined to get Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon into bed together), his little foray into non-Scientology fiction dooms itself. However, the book is quite enjoyable with the right audience, not for children certainly, since the agricultural corps seems a little "ott" and the plot does tend to drag despite the promise of "lasers blasting and lightsabers" throughout. I have better things to do than read about trumped up knights on crashing ships and being attacked. The made up place names are ridiculous, however, the cover art is particularly up-market and very good. A dragging plot and excessive violence coupled with odd desciprions like "he jerked out" and "he grated" make this a low point in an otherwise excellent series. The further Star Wars moves from George Lucas the worse it gets. You can't help but feel he and John Williams (under his supervision) could have turned out an awesome betsetseller but insead we get this. If it weren't star wars it would get NO stars!
Rating: Summary: Enjoyable, even though quick, read. Review: I really enjoyed this book. Lest someone be turned off thinking it is just for kids, I am a 29 year old guy who loves a good tale in the Star Wars universe, and I never felt I was reading a book that was "just for kids." It is, of course, geared for a younger mindset so you have to keep that in mind relative to the type of stories you like to read. This story takes place quite a bit of time before even Episode 1 so it fills in some details about Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan that are interesting. However, while a lot of times I read these books to fill the gaps in the Star Wars universe, I more just read the first Jedi Apprentice book because I was curious. As it turns out, it was well worth the purchase. There were some points where I felt the book was just moving forward at light speed without slowing down a little but then, of course, it was also written to appeal to younger readers and, taken in that context, I think the plot was good as well as the plotting. Even characterization was done quite well. I will definitely be picking up the next in the series. I would say this is not an essential read for the Star Wars fan who only likes a well-fleshed out story told over the course of two hundred or so pages. But if you want a quick and enjoyable romp through the Star Wars universe, you might want to give this one a try.
Rating: Summary: Great for me and my son!! Review: We both loved this book, especially being Star Wars fans. Well written and tied in nicely to the entire Star Wars universe. Nice reading for my son who is 8. He enjoyed it thouroughly. Great addition to the Star Wars epic.

Anyway, I love Obi-Wan in this book, cause he is just sooo cool (He is ALWAYS cool!) Obi-Wan is my fav character and I am SO in love with him! This book has so much adventure and action, ...! It is sooo fast-paced, you won't be able to put it down until you finish it! (Which won't take very long!) Don't miss this great and worthy addition to the greatest saga in the world, STAR WARS!
Rating: Summary: Risin' up to the air... Review: This is the beginning of the "new" starwars stories, about 45 years before 'StarWars - A New Hope' and dozens of centuries after the fierce Sith-Wars. It shows very interesting, though sometimes not so detailed, the way how young force-sensitive children become jedi-knights. They are brought as soon as they're discovered to be force-sensitive to the jedi temple on the galaxy's capital planet Coruscant. Here they achieve wisdom in all cases of the bright side of the force. They're taught to serve the weak and to help all beings who are in need of this help. Young Jedis will become Padawans (Jedi apprentices) of the older knights after they gathered enough knowledge and wisdom.. Knights without Padawans, visiting the temple, can choose a young being to become their Padawan. But the laws of the Jedi codex are strict: the knights can only choose a child who's under the age of thirteen. The young Jedis who didn't have the luck of being chosen are normally sent to work as a healer or farmer... Among all these Jedis lives an almost thirteen years old Obi-Wan Kenobi. And this age makes him afraid of having to face the fate of becoming some sort of farmer. But he gets a last chance of becoming the Padawan from Qui-Gonn Jinn who's just at the temple, but he's not the only one trying to become Jinn's Padawan - and so he has to fight against his old enemy Bruck, another Jedi of Obi-Wan's age, who's also trying to attract Jinn's attention. But both too often show their impatience and that's the cause for Qui-Gonn to refuse them. But fate causes Obi-Wan and Qui-Gonn to travel together on a spaceship with different missions. Obi-Wan, with no chance of becoming a Padawan, has to help the agricultural corpse on the planet Bandomeer where Qui-Gonn is sent by the senate to watch over an escalating conflict between the mining companies there. But this conflict explodes already aboard the ship, transporting rivaling workers for the mines on Bandomeer. And so both Jedis have to use all their powers and abilities to survive. Furthermore, the ship gets attacked by pirates and is in danger of being blown apart... This is the only book of the Jedi apprentice series that was written by Dave Wolverton. It is by the way the biggest one and with 171 pages almost 1.5 times bigger then all the others. All other books are made by Jude Watson. The reading age is set to be about 9-12 years. and written in large letters That means unfortunately that they're all quite short and the language is simple. Furthermore the really large letters are nice to read, but they decrease the possible length of the story even more. But nevertheless all these books feed the hunger for more stories and more background of this amazing Starwars-universe. All these apprentice-series books more or less describe one big story of young Obi-Wan's adventures and so they all continue where the previous book end. This is really nice, but you always want to read more and more. It seems to me that children should get addicted to these books to sell more of them - which might get really expensive. Normally there could easily be three or four books packed in one. Well, this seems to be the biggest flaw of this series. But nevertheless these books must be read by any starwars-fans, no matter what their age! I can only recommend you to read them, because I really like them after all. Regards, (c) Suburp
Rating: Summary: Great start to a series Review: Obi-Wan Kenobi has only four weeks left to be chosen as a padawan and begin his training to become a jedi knight. When he hears that master Qui-Gon Jinn is coming to visit the temple he realizes this is his last chance. Even with master Yoda's recommendation Qui-Gon is still unwilling to take Obi-Wan due to his anger and fear. Young Kenobi is then enroute to Bandomeer to become a farmer when he discovers Qui-Gon is also aboard the ship. When a war breaks out between rival mining corporations and the ship is attacked by pirates. Obi-Wan will try to prove to the jedi master that he is worthy to be his apprentice. This is a short book that moves at a fast pace and is a great start to a promising series.
Rating: Summary: The Rising Force Review: Obi Wan Kenobi desperately wants to be a Padawan before his thirteenth birthday arrives. He wants to leap into dark adventures and soar into the deep, boundless galaxy, siding with the great Jedi Master, Qui-Gon Jinn. But when things take a very unexpected and depressing turn, Obi Wan's dreams of ever siding with Qui Gon are shattered. He is sent to a planet assigned on a job he doesn't really want -- especially when he can be a Jedi -- and Qui-Gon, the one he had always he hoped to be Padawan to, only has a darker heart toward Obi-Wan. Obi- Wan wants to fulfill his hopes more then anything he's ever wanted -- but soon a dangerous adventure erupts onto the scene, and now Obi-Wan faces an uncertain future. Even if Qui-Gon, heartless toward him, will ever decide to take him -- can he face such challenges? The Rising Force, the first book in the Jedi Apprentice series, is written excellently by Dave Wolverton, who starts the book with a promise and wraps it up in a heart stopping, thrilling climax that begins the Jedi Apprentice series.
Rating: Summary: Where it all starts Review: This book is GREAT. It tells you a lot about what a jedi has to go through to become an appretice: Obi-wan wants to be a Jedi Knight more than anything but there is one problem, he's reaching 13. If a master does not ask him to be an apprentice by his 13th birthday then he can not be one at all. He finds out that Qui-gon is coming to the temple. This is his last hope, but when a rival tricks him into a fight it looks like he won't become a jedi. Luckily, Yoda convinces the concil to let him fight for Qui-gon. However, Qui-gon doesn't seem impressed for he doesn't ask him to be an apprentice. So Obi-wan has to pack his bags leave to become a farmer. By chance he is going to the same starcraft that Qui-gon is for his next mission. The starcraft ride gets out-of-control when Jemba the hut steals the dactyl (the rock that the arconans need to survive) from the arconans and takes over the ship. Obi-wan helps Qui-gon save the day but Qui-gon still has douts, his last apprentice "casts a long shadow".
Rating: Summary: Yoda's review Review: The jedi apprentice series starts off in this book, named "the rising force". It is an excellent book. I just couldn't put it down. and i am eager to read the next one. I totally recommend it to Star Wars Fans.
