Rating: Summary: A vital part of the Star Wars Saga Review: Really! I would have you buy these books! Yes! These "children's" books! Don't let your kids get away with them! Buy both books at once! You'll be sore if you don't! This book duo has the pace and thrall of a Star Wars movie sequence... you will find yourself scrolling along wildly until every duel is fought, wise word said, heart mended, and partnership affirmed. These Jedi will madden you with their stubborness and misteps, and warm you with their courage and compassions. And here's something to try: since it says, for some reason, that these are kid's books, be a kid reading them. Jump around, get excited. When things go wrong, run around the house once telling everyone what a loser that so very cool Master Qui-Gon can be... or something more intellectual, if you will. Just make it heart felt. You won't find it hard. Becuase, beyond the action, and vital history, the characters we met in film are here given depth and sympathy and weakness, and I doubt they'll stop at going right for your heart... Oh, you might want to try letting your kids read them, too.
Rating: Summary: At last, and SW book that DOESN"T SUCK!!!!!! Review: I was discouraged when I first saw this book on the shelf. "Oh please," I thought. "I can't believe that the SW book franchise is already delving into (and possibly ruining) "The Phantom Menace." Still, my friend let me borrow it. I read both books withing thirty-six hours! What makes these books so wonderful and different from other SW novels is that the characters are given so much depth and emotion. The outward conflicts in the book are exciting and well-crafted, but not nearly as well-crafted as the conflicts raging within the characters. I feel that these books rightfully belong in the hands of any Star Wars fan. By the way, I'm sixteen. These books deserve higher status than RL 4.
Rating: Summary: PadawanGirl,13 Review: Great! Wonderful! Anything positive a book can be! A book all star wars fans have to read! I loved it. My favorite book out of all the star wars books so far, and I have read a lot. I liked it better then Heir to the Empire. I you call yourself a star wars fan, then you must read it.
Rating: Summary: A Great Book About Obi-Wan Kenobi Review: The book starts out when Obi-Wan Kenobi is only 12 years old. He has 4 week to become a pawan apprentice or he will have to be a farmer. His only chance is that Qui-Gon Jinn will ask him to be this Pawan. But Qui-Gon will. Find out what happens next when you read this great book. Jedi Apprentice #2: The Dark Rival is also a great book. I am a big fan of Obi-Wan Kenobi, so if you are too i would read this book.
Rating: Summary: In the beginning . . . Review: If you have seen the Pahntom Menace you will definately want to read this book. Then you will learn how Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon met. Obviously, the Jedi's near death experiences in the book should not alarm anyone familiar with the Phantom Menace because the two Jedi survive to take part in that adventure. Besides that this is one of the coolest books I have read. Not too lengthy to make you bored and it is long enough to take you through a great adventure. Props to Mr. Wolverton.
Rating: Summary: Not Just For Children! Review: Don't be fooled by the fact that these novels are published by Scholastic and marketed as children's books. The first two Jedi Apprentice novels are well written and are entertaining and informative for adult readers as well. If you were curious about Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon's past, and about life as a Jedi, you'll love this book! This book is essentially Part Two of a cohesive story formed by the Jedi Apprentice novel #1 'The Rising Force' and #2 'The Dark Rival'. It doesn't matter that these are published as two separate books with two different authors, they function as one coherent novel. Book #1 ends suddenly, and #2 takes off right where the first one ends. I suspect they broke them up so they wouldn't be too large or intimidating for young readers, but essentially they form one long novel, dealing with one week in time when Obi-Wan Kenobi is 12 years old and is nearing his 13th birthday. If a student at the Jedi academy is not picked as an apprentice by their 13th birthday (presumably this refers only to human life spans) they are sent away from the academy, destined not to become Jedi but to either become healers or join the Agricultural Corps and use their Force talents to grow crops. Obi-Wan is sent by Yoda to help the Agri-Corps on a world called Bandomeer. This is a disappointment for Obi-Wan, since he thinks it means the instructors at the academy have already decided he will not be trained as a Jedi. The Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn is also travelling to Bandomeer in a diplomatic capacity, and Obi-Wan desperately tries to impress the famous Jedi, hoping that he can convince him to take him on as his Padawan. Qui-Gon is determined to never take another Padawan, since his last apprentice turned to the Dark Side and betrayed him. However, it seems Yoda, who foresaw their future together, is right, for Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan, though having only just met and not Master and Padawan, have an immediate bond form between them. These novels should be REQUIRED READING for all Qui-Gon or Obi-Wan fans. It really sets up their relationship and history in an interesting way. It adds interesting backstory to the characters in the movie. Also, this history is referred to in the Patricia C. Wrede novelization of 'The Phantom Menace'. Another thing that really impressed me about these books was the insight into the Jedi Temple, the Jedi Academy, and the way Jedi are trained. We get many wonderful Jedi sayings ("We are not saints, but seekers") and a detailed look at life in the Jedi Temple and the training of a Jedi. Yoda gets some great lines. I only hope the next books in this series are this good! I'd give this book SIX STARS if I could!
Rating: Summary: A Good Book. Review: This was a good book. The only problem is it was very predictable. I don't know if this is because I've read so many books, or if it's just obivous. It starts out in the Jedi Temple, and Obi-Wan is framed on something. He get's sent to a planet in the Oter Rim, and he steps into the middle of a war. This is a great book. If you like exciting books, and good detail, get this book.
Rating: Summary: very good it is! Review: Must read it is. Be one with the force. The force is unusually strong within this book. Yeeeees. Hph hph!
Rating: Summary: Get this book NOW!! Review: This is a great book! It tells about Obi-Wan and his adventures with the Jedi Master, Qui-Gon Jinn. Obi has 4 more weeks to become a Padawan, but is sent to the Agri-corps on Bandomeer. This book tells about his journey to Bandomeer. He encounters a lot of trouble, and shows Qui-Gon what he's made of. Still Qui-Gon does not take him as his Padawan. It is a wonderful book. Definentaly read it when you have nothing planned in the immediate future. You will not be able to put it down.
Rating: Summary: Thrilling Review: The story is about Obi-wan-kenobi hoping to become a Jedi apprentice before his 13th birthday or else he'll have no chance of becoming a Jedi. Meanwhile Qui-jon-jinn comes around but won't take Obi-wan-kenobi as an apprentice because of his past apprentice. But by chance they get sent to the same places to work........................... It's a great book. Also read Jedi Apprentice The Dark Rival
