Summary: A great book to start out with...
Review: I have read some of the other reviews and I am very confused why it got SO many bad reviews. This is a great book. It was my first Forgotten Realms books and I chose it at the time because it was a "stand-alone" book. I was instantly hooked. This is a great story of a no-body girl who discovers great power within herself. Talk about fantasy! Becuase of this book, I have discovered an entire realm of books and stories from Ed Greenwood, who is one of my favorite writters. I am currently reading Crown of Fire and it's even better. Can't wait for Hand of Fire to get into my hands. Thanks Ed for the great stories.

Summary: Spellfire? Maybe.
Review: I thought Spellfire was an OK book, but not one of those "You must read this book." things.
At times it was to Lovey! The only thing I kept reading this book for, was because of Torm. He was just, plain FUNNY!!
Narm and Shandril were to Kissy, Kissy, if you know what I mean.
I think I might read Crown of Fire, but it might be the same thing.

Summary: It's [junk] repackaged with more [junk] they edited out earlier.
Review: When Ed "Horndog" Greenwood's Spellfire was originally published someone had enough sense to edit the darn thing. Now after its been inflicted on thousands Wizards of the Coast has decided to punish us all again with a new and expanded version.

If you tire of Ed's constant writing of improbable sexual come ons this one is just as bad as the others. If you haven't read any of Ed's fantastical porn then just seek him out at a local con in Ontario. He's even more horrifying in person.

Boo on Wizards for pimping this out in a new more expensive version. Boo for Wizards inflicting the delusional ramblings of an oversexed librarian on us time after time. Boo on me for wasting the time it took to re-read this horrible novel again.

Flee! Flee!

Summary: Spellfire
Review: Yes, the romance in this book can get a little tiresome at times BUT, this book is one of the best in the fantasy genre. The reader really feels as if he or she is there with the characters. Ed Greenwood builds a complete world not just has a few characters move through the barren landscape. The only book that can compare is Elizabeth Moon's Sheepfarmer's Daughter and this one is better. The author has stated that the supporting characters in the book are characters from his 20 year weekly gaming group and IT SHOWS. Buy the book and get through the first 50 pages and then you are in for the ride of your life.

Summary: 15 year old bookworm's review
Review: This book is really good, if you like the stories of people leaving for adventure, and then finding its not what they thought it was. The characters are strong, and there is quite a bit of wry humor in here, nothing inappropriate when it comes to the humor. All in all, I say you NEED to read this book.

Summary: Pure Torture
Review: I cannot even begin to describe the agony that this book gave me. I am sure that many people out there will feel the same once they've read this towering heap of trash. I read this book some time ago, but it's memory has stuck with me COZ IT'S SO BAD!!! A friend of mine gave it to me (they liked it), and I read it, certain that it would be a gripping joy-ride every bit as cool as it's fabulous cover. About 50 pages into it, I felt sick. this book is *terrible*. It's about a girl called Shandril, who is actually a god in disguise -- NOT, but sometimes it seems that way -- and who gets nude with a guy about ... oh ... half an hour after they meet (not to mention the five seconds of "magic" at the inn). And the guy (the so-called "hero") is a complete and utter wimp! Auughh! The only thing about this book that I liked was the band of wandering adventurers-- but Greenwood killed 'em all in chapter 3! The book is still where i left it: under the darkest piece of furniture at my grandparent's place, quietly awaiting the apocalypse.

THIS BOOK SHOULD COME WITH A WARNING SIGN

Summary: ZERO STARS
Review: Great cover, worst book I ever read. Comical is the word for its juvenile writings. I've read many Forgotten Realms novels (I'm a glutton for punishment) and I had always thought that Douglas Niles' Crystal Shard Series were the worst I've read, but this takes the cake. But the cover of the book is almost worth the money. Clyde rules.

Summary: well.....
Review: If this is your introduction to the Forgotten Realms series of novels DON'T READ THIS BOOK. Check out The Ice Wind Dale Trilogy by R.A. Salvatore. Or perhaps Elfshadow's series by Elaine Cunningham. AVOID anything written by Ed Greenwood for now. For those who DO know their basics about the forgotten world, you already know what to expect in the way of novels from Ed Greenwood. Because you have read his books before. And we all know he is a horrible author, but a master campaign developer. Read his books from a technical perspective if you can. It may enhance your game to some extent.

Summary: Good designer - bad author
Review: Ed Greenwood's books tend to show that a good game designer does not necessarily make a good author.

Spellfire is a lackluster story. The characterizations are cliche as is much of the dialogue.

The worst part of Greenwood's stories are his use of sex. Every scene should support the story. Greenwood inserts sex scenes that have no logical basis. People seem to drop their clothes for no reason. It seems to substantiate the premise that fantasy readers are just oversexed geeks.

Contrast this with Simon Hawke's Iron Throne where a sex scene is used to further the plot by creating emotional conflicts and motivations for characters. Greenwood could use a lesson from Hawke.

Summary: Don't Waste Your Time
Review: Where do I begin? The book was just absolutely horrible. It starts our great with a small group of adventures that you kind of come to like. But another chapter later, they are all dead. It just seems that there is a bunch of fighting and no plot. And the characters that do survive are the ones you could care less about. Save your time. DONT READ THIS BOOK!
