Rating: Summary: a morality play for an age of decay Review: Vurt is a masterpiece. An illusive work of art that captures exactly how the mind and soul work together to achieve a greater state of being. Jeff noon is one of the only authors of our time to grasp the concept behind the evolution of man and the devolution of society. Vurt rank right up there with *Brave New World and *Honey for the Bears.
Rating: Summary: Oh My God Review: What an awesome book! Exquisitly lavished with detail. All I can say is WOW!!!
Rating: Summary: Curious Yellow Review: Yay for Jeff Noon. This is a fantastic book,he writes fantastically in a style of his own. If you have not read any Jeff Noon then do so forthwith
Rating: Summary: Great surreal cyberfiction Review: In a genre that is constantly begging accreditation, it is refreshing to read someone like Noon who obviously has a great handle on the uses of warped reality for teaching something about the world we live in. Noon's great gift for driving prose does not quite reach the emotional validity of Jonathan Lethem, but far surpasses the general meaningless trash-sci-fi that clutters up the bookstore shelves and makes it embarrassing to claim one's self as a sci-fi reader/writer. Vurt definitely belongs in the library of the Clockwork Orange lover. Reading it is a lot like entering a vurt -- a life-sized videogame that has no fatal holes -- it makes real life seem somewhat mundane once you finish. You end with the realization that, much like playing a well-made, involving game, the second time won't be as pleasurable (because it is so plot-driven), but not reading it anymore will leave you bereft of all those great, flashing, driving images. The worst part of a free fall is that nasty stop at the end.
Rating: Summary: Noon is in a league of his own with this one! Review: This book is really an amazing piece, Noon takes the reader into a whole new genre and into a fanatastic future. I really can't do the book justice with my review, you just have to read the first page to fall in love with this "on the road" in the future type book. Great, fun, and quick read. get this book and love it.
Rating: Summary: a young man puts a feather into his mouth Review: You know when a book is great because you could be hit with a car five minutes after finishing the book and die without any regrets
Rating: Summary: Reading "Vurt" is like being in a vurt. Totally emersing. Review: This book has almost become my bible -- Scribble (the main character) is extremely realistic: he is not invincible. He is not perfect. He is just a guy in search of his lost love. This is one of the classic stories of the world, retold in Noon's whirlwind psychadelic writing style. Read it, and you will understand . . .
Rating: Summary: Easily the best book I've ever read!! Fall into the VURT!! Review: I never read, but VURT I could not put down. Jeff Noon is definitely my new favorite writer and it will be hard to top him!! Definitly take the time to put the feather in your mouth!!
Rating: Summary: Whatever This Was It Was Good! Review: I'm still not sure exactly what this was but maybe that's half the fun. Far future? Near future? Present day? I don't know and it doesn't really matter. This is one wild book, so energetic that turing the last page and finishing the book is remarkably like getting off of a rollercoaster. Not classic literature that will be forever remembered but a great deal of fun.
Rating: Summary: Exciting, Invigorating, Unusual Review: A roller coaster ride of a book! Great stuff
