Rating: Summary: Tremendous!!! Review: What a book!! I was gripped by this bookj with in the first 20 pages and I did not do any thing for a day except read this! Rating: Summary: Oh, the pain, the pain.... Review: What can I say? I read constantly, mostly Sci-Fi, Fantasy and Historical fiction, and because of this addiction I almost *never* fail to complete a book, no matter how painful. This time, however, the pain won. What was the publisher thinking with this? Did they feel the need to publish a 'filler' fantasy series for us constant readers? This was awful ... and I actually waded through books seven and eight of Jordan's WoT without giving up! I have never felt so non-caring about a story's characters that I did with the two protagonists. Read the last few lines of the Kirkus Review - they sum it up pretty well. Read GC Kay, GRR Martin, Terry Goodkind, even one of the first half-dozen of Jordan's now lamentably bloated WoT - but *avoid* this book! Do I sound resentful - you bet! I resent having wasted my time trying to involve myself with this novel. But if I can save just one reader, my pain will not be totally in vain.
Rating: Summary: Excellent new Series!! A Must Read!! Review: With "Curse of the MistWraith", Janny Wurts again redefines the standard for all Sword and Sourcery Fantasy fictions. Unparalled in depth and rich in details, Janny creates an entire world and fills it with plots, characters and a riveting tale. The story tells of how two half brothers of very different background and personalities come together to defeat a Mistwraith, only to have the entity cursed them to enimity. It tells of the natural human instinct to persecute, to rationalize and to strike out without a thought for the innocents that might stand in the way. It tells of responsibilities, compassion, heroism, self sacrifice and a love of life that know no bounds. With "Curse of the Mistwraith", Janny can now proundly claimed to stand among the best of the fantasy authors. The characters are richly developed with enough background to provide for understanding and sympathy. The plot is riveting, as events quickly develops to grip the reader*s attention. The book is without flaw and is certainly the best I have read so far. This series would stand shoulder to shoulder against Raymond E. Feist*s Riftwar and SerpentWar Saga. The only disadvantage so far is the extra long period between each book. The subsequent sequels were released soon enough but the fourth book titled "The Alliance of Light" if released on time would have taken one and half year after the released of the third book titled "Warhost of Vastmark". 18 months is simply too long a wait and Janny would do well with a shorter time interval. Her current popularity does not justify such a long wait and other more popular authors are already releasing their sequels and new series. All in all, a MUST READ!

Rating: Summary: with good editing, it might have worked! Review: With good editing this book might have worked! For some strange reason, Janny Wurts has to add a galactic starship in her books. She is unoriginal (you would note that her STormwarden series also started with boats and is also cofined to island kingdoms) and she is not worthy of much praise. I have to say that the story has potential (especially the friction between the brothers) but certain themes are not fully explored. Much to her detriment as a writer. The mistwraithe theme is old hat. What about the Riftwar Saga by RaymondE Feist?? Also about a pervading evil in the cosmos affecting distant worlds. I'm sorry, there is not much of a writer's creativity in this woman. Why must there alsways be a matrix??? Why is there this need to rehash the concept of technology and high magic! If you want to omuck about with the two concepts - do it properly! There were times that I became so annoyed with her writing skills, I flung the book in anger! I do not think that is the aim of writing a book - upsetting the reader in such a horrid fashion. IO find her writing pedestrian, pedantic and downright boring! As I have said before - with good editing......
Rating: Summary: At her best! Review: Wow! Where does she come up with these great books! Another
superb storytelling achievement. The detail and thoroughness
with which this book is written makes the world all too real
and you find yourself willing to endure total immersion. This
Saga has it all, love, hate, violence, family feuds, clan warfare,
magic, and a twist of comedy along the way that makes for a very,
very entertaining read and buy! Definitely one for the collection.
Rating: Summary: A great book. Review: You will not be sorry if you read it because it has a great story that is never boring and very interesting characters. When you start reading it you just can't put it down because you can't wait to see what will be next.
