Summary: astounding
Review: The curse of the Mistwraith is an amazing book. It builds a world and a history that parallels and even goes beyond that of Robert Jordan, George R.R. Martin, or even in some ways Tolkein. It is just amazing the breadth of the story, it truely is an astoundingly massive piece in time and scope.

Summary: BEST FANTASY NOVEL IN MY OPINION
Review: The first 4 books in the series have been great and are a definite MUST for every fantasy reader. The only HORRIBLE part for us readers is the wait for every new sequence to be published. I wish I could know how this series is to end, how many years will we have to read until this happens, hope Janny is a fast typist

Summary: Wow.
Review: The last time I read anything that made this much of an impression on me, I was 12 years old and reading Tolkien for the first time. Wow. Powerful imagery, fast action, intrigue, betrayal, prophesies fulfilled, wrongs righted, curses, all with a skilled eye on detail and plot. This book had a really slow build up, which I think was necessary because of the number of characters used, but the later parts of the book were almost explosive in their action. I can't wait to read "The Ships of Merior".

Summary: Intricate storyline-- be warned the series isn't finished!
Review: The plot line and characters are very intricately developed. While I don't agree with her worldview, I thoroughly enjoyed the novel.

I warn you, though, that the series is LONG and unfinished as of now. Ms. Wurts is perpetually late in publishing the sequels. Also, there is very little resolution at the end of each novel.

Summary: On the bad side of 'so-so'
Review: The story was reasonably interesting, but the conflicts were trite and contrived. What she made her characters agonize over made me roll my eyes. By far the greatest weakness is her nebulous writing, not to mention downright grammatical mistakes. She takes half a page of forced and painful prose to say what could be better expressed with economy. It was a big long blustery book which could have told the same story better if her editor had taken a pen to it before it hit the presses.

Summary: Good Characters, Slow PLot
Review: This book did not hold my interest at all. Out of the hundreds of books I have read this is the only one I have not finished. The characters are fairly well developed but the plot of the story is rather dull and unexciting. next to a few interesting pages I found this book to be a disappointment.

Summary: Good political science, poor science fiction
Review: This book had too many characters, and too little action. Wurts spends all her time studying politics and human nature. If you love political science, you might enjoy this book, but I've been trying to finish it for months, and every time I start to read I fall asleep.

Oh yeah, and she uses obscure English words just for fun, like she always has her Thesaurus open on her desk as she's writing. Words should be used with precision, not as a club, or to show off.

I guess I didn't like the book much.

Summary: One of the best books i have ever read.
Review: This book has a great storyline and plot and the type of book you can never put down. It is envolving and has twists that you would never expect. It is about two half brothers The Lord of Light and The Master of Shadows. The were brought up by to kings who hated and despised each other. They are enemies but the only way to save the world and fight the Mistwraith is if they work together. This is a book you just have to read it is compelling and intriging. I would rate it 9/10.

Summary: Interesting, if pompous beginning.
Review: This book is an interesting weave of semi-told plot lines and half-fleshed characters. Don't get me wrong, the book is a good read, and the author obviously has a firm grip on the English language (unlike some others I have read). Unfortunately, the author must have something to prove. She uses the thesaurus like a cudgel and relies upon grammatical rules that even Webster would be hard pressed to justify. What this leaves is a fascinating tale whose substance is sacrificed for the author's seeming need to prove her virtuosity with the language. The characters are still strangers, even at the end of the book. The plot is truncated in odd places, like a bad hair-cut. There are, however, passages of unique brilliance and beauty. The author's descriptions (while often lasting well over a page), create beautiful imagery. It's as if the author originally wrote this book to be well over 1,000 pages long, and her editor told her to cut it to 500 by Tuesday. My advice to the reader: this book will captivate your imagination in odd ways: the world and circumstances are amazingly rife with possibility, but the characters and plot are a side note.
