Rating: Summary: The Mageborn Traitor is a great sci-fi/fantasy novel. Review: This was a great novel I would recommend for any person who likes sci-fi/fantasy. It was told in a waythat wasn't too wordy, or too brief, but just right to hold your attention. It was exciting, suspensful, and makes you think. I also liked the fact that it was long--not the longest book I've ever read, but long enough that it takes me longer than a day ortwo to read.I don't want to be really wordy and draw this out forever, so let me end with this statement: Read The Mageborn Traitor! (you should read the first book first, though)
Rating: Summary: good cheese, but it's no brie... Review: i have a tendancy to rate books and movies in terms of cheese (depending on their quality or "cheesiness"). bad cheese is like limburger (smelly and unappetizing), while good cheese is like velveeta (smooth), and the best is brie (high quality stuff).the ruins of ambrai was the first rawn book i read. my friend lent it to me one day, and for the rest of the day, i couldn't put it down. a week later, (it would have been sooner, but i had schoolwork)i returned the ruins of ambrai to my friend in exchange for the mageborn traitor. i think it was only my concern for her great characters and my intense need to find out what happens next that kept me going through the book. it had a fairly good plot, but it was extremely slow reading. in the ruins of ambrai, everything happened non-stop. it was truly action-packed. but the mageborn traitor was filled with....waiting. it got rather boring at times. i still recommend it, and am eagerly awaiting the third book, but if the captal's tower is anything like the mageborn traitor, i will be rather disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Strong, bold story. Another great trilogy by Melanie Rawn. Review: I love Melanie Rawn's stories. This new series is a wonderfully entertaining read. The characters are very strong, independent, with attitude, and very colorful. I can't wait for the next book to come out. I recommend all of her books. I have read each one at least twice.
Rating: Summary: I personally thought it was wonderful Review: I like her characters, they are thoughtfully written out. And you hurt when they hurt. I am trying to find out when the next will be available. I found Melanie Rawn with the Dragon Prince/Star novels. I am incredibly fascinated that someone can create an entire world in her head. I hope you find fun, facination, and frolic in the pages of Melanie Rawn.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful, I loved every other second and cried the rest. Review: I could not wait for this book to come out and am pulling my hair out for the next. You become so attached to the charactors with each book that you anticipate their every move. It was magic.
Rating: Summary: Thought provoking and amazing!!! Review: What I liked most about this book and its predecessor is that both are not predictable. Melanie Rawn actually makes you think about what will happen next. I thought it was fun, and a little frustrating, to piece together all the clues, and I have to say that I am still very confused, but that's okay. I'd rather be confused than bored. I loved how complex both the plot and the characters were. I have never read a story before that completely makes you feel like you are actually there. I cannot wait to see what Ms. Rawn will come up with in the final book. Mikel and Taigan were fun and I hope we get to find out more about there lives. I wonder if Cailet will ever find someone(I'm sorry to say that I find Joss a tad young). I absolutely could not imagine them together but hey, one of the benefits of writing is you get to do whatever you want. I'm dying to know the truth about Collan and must say that the suspence is killing me. Above all I applaud Ms. Rawn for her very exceptional work. Not many books have touched me the way hers has. If you love a complex story with memorable characters in a world where women mostly call the shots, then you will love this series. By the way, if anyone knows when the third will be coming out I would love to know. It is easier to wait when you have some kind of a time frame.
Rating: Summary: Just as wonderful as all her others! Review: Melanie Rawn is one of the greatest authors I've ever come across. She is very good at characterization; the reader feels as if the characters actually exist. Another strong point is detail. The Mageborn Traitor was an absolutely wonderful story and greatly displayed her talents. She paid great attention to detail, making the world of Lenfell real. Sarra, Cailet, Collan, Glenin, Josselin, Taigan, Mikel and all the other characters LIVED, exactly as her characters have done in all of her other books. This is definitely a must for any Melanie Rawn or fantasy fan, but don't forget to read The Ruins of Ambrai first! :) (Btw, my email address comes from a saint in this series of books.)
Rating: Summary: good book but inconsistent Review: i admire miss rawn's attempt to create a feminist society but i have noticed a few inconsistencies. such as a 90 year old male supreme justice who until the last twenty years would not have had the necessary rights or education to enter law much less be a judge of the highest judiciary board
Rating: Summary: Mageborn Traitor is as good as Ruins of Ambrai! Review: As in her first book, Mageborn Traitor is filled with beautiful descriptions and images, along with a thrilling story. Continuing from the first book, follow the sisters and their children through their lives. Most frustrating, in both books, is keeping all the names straight. The names are all so similar that, except for the main characters, I had to keep looking in the glossary to remember who was who. All in all, I loved this book as much as the first. Rawn's Dragon Chronicles were also wonderful. I was unsure at first about getting into such a long series, but it was definitely worth it!! I would definitely recommend all of them to anyone who loves magic, dragons, and fantasy!
Rating: Summary: Extremely well written Review: With this book Melanie Rawn has written yet another captivating novel of love and betrayal. It alows the reader to become part of the characters lives. And has the same use of great imagination that had readers like myself on edge through the entire book.
