Rating: Summary: Rawn's Best Yet! Review: Melanie Rawn is a true genious. I've read all of her books so far and this is obviously the best she's ever written. I couldn't put it down. The way that the truth about Jored and Josselin isn't revealed until the very end is masterful books ending has me dying to read "The Captal's Tower" I sincerely hope she publishes it before the year is over. Rawn gives subtle hints about the future of the charactors. In "The Ruins of Ambrai" Glenin says that Cailet will have no mageborn children, which leads me to believe she will find someone who toples her "I can never love" attitude, and she will give birth to a child or 2. Until the next book comes out I'll be waiting.
Rating: Summary: When is the Third one coming...????? Review: I read the the Dragon Prince trilogy before reading this one, and this one has been great so far! I really hope Rawn will bring out the third book SOON! I love the intricacies of the plot, as well as other various twists and turns. The reader begins to suspect one, and turns to the other, than back to the original, it's a CLASSIC! I was not happy to find out about the death of my fave character, though. If the related characters hadn't coped so well, I would've thrown this book away after reading it. The ending brought tears to my eyes. THIS BOOK IS A MUST!
Rating: Summary: Some predictions Review: I think the most important character in the Captal's Tower will be Josselin. It is my theory (and has been since the first book) that Josselin actually received the most important part of the Captal's bequest when he was in the womb. Remember how Cailet was just about to receive the final wisdom when the baby appeared? Josselin will be the next Captal, or die transfering his knowledge. I think the attraction between Cailet and Josselin also stems from their magical contact when Josselin was a fetus. I don't think it will evolve into sexual intimacy though. It's more of a symbiotic magical bond. Taigan looks like Cailet, and Taigan and Josselin seem like a natural, so they'll probably get together. It also seems clear that Collan was related to Gorsha, if not Gorsha's child. Collan may very well be the offspring of Caiterin, the great mage who forged Gorsha's sword. It would fit in with the coppery hair (she was named after Caiteri, the Fiery Eyed) and Collan's fiery spirit. Just thought I'd add my thoughts.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic! Review: I have waited for this book for so long and I was not disappointed. Of course, prepare for heartache; Melanie Rawn is realistic when it comes to death to our favorite characters. Note aside: I want Cailet and Jocelin to get together!
Rating: Summary: What more is there to say? Review: What can I say in this review that I didn't say in my review of The Ruins of Ambrai? Rawn's lack of compunction about killing off characters makes this book a truly emotional one. Not to mention the sudden twists of fortune for the characters that surround them. The simple realism draws me back again and again, despite the depression!!! Rawn is truly one of the greats in the genre.
Rating: Summary: Wow..... Review: If you've read The Ruins of Ambrai, you'll love this book, as it continues the character developments started in the first novel. Although fairly sloggy at times, this book does have its priceless moments, such as when the Malerrisi attack. And then there are the moments at the end of the book that had me reading and reading and reading... I couldn't put the book down, and before I knew it I was unconciously reaching for The Captals Tower (not published yet). If you are a Rawn fan, definitely read this book. Along with the first in the series, this series is her crowning achievement
Rating: Summary: The world I wish I could be in. Review: This book was the greatest political/sci-fi book I have read in along time. This book just shows how better a world would be if it had women in charge.
Rating: Summary: Characters with real emotions caught in a deep web of magic Review: Anyone with loves SciFi/Fantasy will enjoy this trilolgy. The characters are well developed and the magic is unique. There are 3 sides in the ongoing conflict on Lenfell--the Mageborn, the Malerrisi, and the non-magical people. You'll find tangled webs of deceipt, family members against family, and the occasional twist that keeps you wanting more. I can hardly wait for book three "Captal's Tower", for the conclusion I want to read, in the series I don't want to end.
Rating: Summary: i can't wait for the next book Review: this book is all that i expected it to be and more. i have read her other two series the dragon star and the dragon prince and they were both great series. if the captal's tower will live up to the other two books in the series it should be great.
Rating: Summary: Stupid characters within a boring book . Review: I read all the reviews and am slightly wondering whether really all reviews get printed . How can one talk about a plot when in some 700 odd pages nothing happens ? How can anybody be surprised when everything is so obvious ? But the most desappointing are the characters ! Imagine a following situation : You are leading an Academy and get 2 new students . You KNOW that one of them is what he says that means a poor orphan . You KNOW that the other is a fraud and a potential murderer pretending that he is also a poor orphan . Moreover you KNOW that the traitor had to make up his whole life because you know who he really is . So you know about everything and only ignore the who is who . The 10$ question : WHAT DO YOU DO ? Those who answered nothing just won 10$ because that is exactly what a supposedly most intelligent character of the book (Cailet) did . So you follow hundreds of pages where everybody is waiting for a catastophe to happen and you are not overly surprised when it really happens . That leaves only frustration why nobody did the most basic work that any cop would do : - make some crosschecking on the stories knowing that one is 100% false - put some pressure on the 2 students so that possible contradictions appear - simply go to the places they said having been living in and ask people if they remember the student (don t forget , one has made up EVERYTHING) So you are waiting that at last the traitor does his work and gets caught . You even hope that he makes as much damage as possible because such a bunch of stupid people only deserve what happens. I surely will not read the last volume of this trilogy !
