Summary: Beautiful
Review: First of all, for those of you who have not yet read this, PLEASE refrain from reading to far in the comments. Only because some readers printed in some major spoilers. Now, granted, this book was at times heavy handed with geneology and names that sounded a little to similer for my taste, that was my only complaint. I found this to be a sequel that lives up to the series, and to Rawn's usual talent. Half the time I was rolling on the floor laughing, and the rest of the time I was in tears. She writes this book so you can really feel the characters, Cai's frustration, Sarra and Collan's love, and the twins confusion at growing up. Beautiful

Summary: Gotta have the next one!
Review: I loved this book, more than the first. I can't wait for the next one! Really great suspense in the second half, even though it took me a few pages to get into it. I love long involved books that you never want to end and I think that a lot of the small stuff in this book was really setting the stage for the last quarter where the action REALLY picks up. I am a reformed mystery reader so I keep my eyes peeled for foreshadowing and other clues; Melanie Rawn really tied up her hints and whisperings well in the end, except for poor ... I just hate those people who give away the surprise ending, don't you?

Summary: I loved it.
Review: I thuroughly enjoyed this book. Through Ms. Rawn's description of the characters and their world, you experience their feelings. It almost transports you to their world. The only things I did not like were the killing off of a favorite character and the revelation of the imposter. Other than that, Melanie Rawn did a superb job on this book. I would recommend it to all who like reading fantasy.

Summary: Disappointed, not quite up to snuff
Review: I must start off by saying that I have read all of Melanie Rawn's books. She has a particular strength in creating fascinating worlds filled with interesting characters and political intrigue. In fact, she is one of the best I have read so far in terms of such political manoeuvring and detailed and intricate worlds. However she does have some really irritating weak points that mar the entire structure. 1) Her starting books are always unbelievably wonderful. They prompt the reader to read more and more. No doubt about that. However, after the first book, the quality starts to degenerate like in The Mageborn Traitor. Ruins was a much better book. And the reason I picked Traitor up was because it was so wonderful. I should have known better judging from the past efforts in the DragonPrince and Dragonstar series. 2) She fills the Mageborn Traitor with fluff and expects her readers tp enjoy second rate characterisation with the main characters' children. Being children of heroes does not make them automatically lovable to the reader. In fact it would not be so bad if the characterisation was good, but the Rawn assumes the reader would forgive them for all their little weaknesses based on their parents. To stick to the book, I wonder why the bulk of the book is filled with drivel. Sure, it is interesting to have all thsoe tiny family details but it gets tiresome after a while. Compared to Exiles, which was non-stop action with detail, this book is detail with little action. Huh? I thought the whole point of the title i.e. The Mageborn Traitor was to have a) traitor, b) hunting said person down and c) getting rid...etc... of said person. not a) children b) children growing up c) etc.... you get the idea... To be fair, Rawn tries to redeem it in the last half but doesn't quite cut it because the entire book becomes unbalanced in its content. Still, the book was nice to pass time with because of all the old characters from exiles.

Summary: If anyone knows when #3 is coming, please send me the date!
Review: I've read M. Rawn's other 2 trilogies and I can truly say that I'm hooked. She has an original style and really knows how to leave you gasping for more. Each book is packed with detail and complex situations. She draws you into the characters and then takes them away, or sends them in completely opposite directions than you could imagine. Sarra and Cailet are almost real. Not to mention Collan, Joss, Taigan, and Mikel. They aren't the usual one dimensional characters, they must be based on real people. And if book three doesn't come out soon...I may just die!

Summary: More sequels, please?!
Review: I've been dying for #3. Just as I was dying for #2. The Ruins of Ambrai took me a good fifty pages to get into, but past that, I was dead to the world for about four days. My teachers almost took it away because I was reading it in class! These are the type of books that make you laugh aloud. Ms. Rawn has a very unique style. I enjoyed them throuroghly, but I was very angry with Collan and Glenin's last confrontation. Far too many loose ends. who were Collan's parents? What's with Joss and Caisha? What will become of poor Sarra? Where the heck does Jored think he's going to hide? I am going insane...All I want's the sequel. Is that so wrong? A.S.A.P.!

Summary: good book here
Review: This is an awesome book. That's all you need to know. If you can appreciate good literature that makes you think, but keeps you enthralled at the same time, then BUY THIS BOOK!

Summary: Vol. 1 & 2 in 2 days...Dying for #3!!!
Review: If Exiles were the foundation of a house, then The Mageborn Traitor would be the walls, doors, windows, and everything except the furnishings! Building on our knowledge from Exiles Melanie Rawn takes the reader to new heights of emotion. How could anyone not feel horrible when Collan dies? Or be wooping with glee when Joss finds his family? Or smug when Glenin dies, but still sorry for her, she never knew another way :( I am very choosy about the authors I stick with for more than one book. My favorites are David Eddings, David Gemmell and now Melanie Rawn! Read this if you like a page-turner!

Summary: A political fantasy
Review: Melanie Rawn has truly mastered the intricacies of court politics and intrigue. In this second installment of one of the most captivating series I've ever had the privelege of reading, she continues to prove she's in control of her craft. The vastness of her plots and the sheer volume of lore being generated never ceases to amaze me.

Though the complexity of plot may seem cumbersome at first, the story is not lacking in any way, and is only improved by the plentiful nature of Rawn's creation. Definitely one of my favorites of all time, including the first in the series, as well!

Summary: Better Than The First
Review: I loved it! I dragged my mom over to the bookstore after I read the first book just so I could get this one. Cailet is one of my favorites. I can't wait to find out what's going to happen to Cailet, Sarra, Joss, or the twins. Will the sister's nephew come back? It was sad that Collan had to die. I thought he was a great character. I hope the next book comes out SOON
