Rating: Summary: A well-written, thrilling book Review: This book and the 1st book in this series are wonderful. The plot is complex and twisting, weaving between many different times and places. The characters are well-developed and believable. From the beginning this book holds you in its grip and doesn't let you put it down.
Rating: Summary: Mageborn, Rawn? Indeed Review: One of the best works published by Melaine Rawn yet, she combines confusion, intrigue, mystery and chaos suberbly well into one book. The plot will lead readers onto false convictions, assumptions, backed by a feeling of mystery. One of the best books of the century, a must buy for all people of all interests!
Rating: Summary: Arrh! Review: A word of warning to 1st time readers of Rawn, the wait for the next book in the series is always long. I know this. I purposely waited. I didn't buy the first book in the series the first time I saw it. NO, I KNEW BETTER! I waited for the second book. I read both books in two days and (a little blurry-eyed I admit)started to seek The Capital's Tower. It was listed in Vol 2. It was named and even had a possible release date. Want to know the NEW release date?--SOMETIME in 2001! Doesn't Ms. Rawn know these books are addictive?
Rating: Summary: absolutely breathtaking! Review: I found this book absolutely breathtaking, though I would like to point out to reviewer kergmagirl that it takes far more than an attemp to regale us with a pseudo-acerbic wit as a justification for slamming the book. I found her review infantile, pedantic and pedestrian. That review is the ramblig of an uninformed mind and the mere fact that you have read great quantaties to books hardly makes one a reviewer! Melanie Rawn provides an insightful look in a world (in comparison to ours) that is in societal deaththroes. It is informative, entertaining and highly enchanting. The characters are vivid (quite unlike in the kergmagirl review) and Rawn fully explores the boundaries of certain characters to the full extent of her ability. The plot twists and turns in a captivating manner, never losing a hold on the reader and skilfully implants the suggestion of what would happen if we had to deal with the Malerissi on our own planet. Exiles is not one of those vulgar epic fantasies flooding bookshops and literary outlets. Unlike Robert Jordan and Janny Wurts, we are not clubbed to death with hectic, protracted volumes of a single story idea. This book is to the point, informative, entertaining and highly suggestive in ways of reforming a social order, or disorder. I believe that kergmagirl writes reviews with an infantile and delusional essence and I am not to keen on knowing her private eating disorder regards Sergio Ben
Rating: Summary: Mageborn Traitor Review: Outstanding book...I think I have enjoyed this series more than the Dragon Star & Dragon Prince series'. I just hope that book 3 will hurry out, so I can finish this awesome trilogy.
Rating: Summary: One of the best Review: One of the very best of fantasy around. Forget Jordan. Too bad part 3 takes so long to come out.
Rating: Summary: The Mageborn Traitor Review: Bravo Rawn! Your book was beautifully and skillfully written, and its twists and turns kept me reading right to the last page. I especially liked the way you characterized Jored and Joss, making it almost impossible for me to tell who was really the mageborn traitor until the end. I can't wait for you to finish The Captal's Tower, in which I will be relieved of the question: is Collan really dead?
Rating: Summary: Mind Candy Review: Auuugh! This book is like decorative frosting: it's really bad for me, I don't want people to see me eating it, it makes me sick afterwards but I still eat it in mass quantities! Now, I'm sure that was more information than you needed about my private food addicitions, but I feel the same way about these books. I really want to know what happens next, but the quality of the writing and the plot devices are pretty formulaic and sometimes off-putting. Note: 1. Why is everybody so beautiful? 2. Why does it seem like the characters got picked from either soap operas or sitcoms? 3. Why is the plot eerily like Star Wars? Think about it! I'm not saying that Melanie Rawn consciously copied, I'm just saying that the subconscious echoing of the plot leaves a certain aftertaste. And the society could use a little more work, frankly. The predominance of women seems highly, highly unlikely under the circumstances described. It would be fascinating if she'd do that a little more. I could go on all day about the flaws, but that still doesn't explain why I like the books so much!
Rating: Summary: The mageborn Traitor Review: This is one of the best fantasy books i've every read. I've reas this book so many times my copy is falling apart, hopefully Ms. Rawn will be getting the Captal's Tower out soon.
Rating: Summary: Well, I liked it Review: While I agree that these books may not appeal to all audiences....I for one quite enjoyed them, so much so that I have read them both (Ruins of Ambrai and Mageborn Traitor) 3 times while awaiting the next one. I can't wait for The Captal's Tower (hint hint Miss Rawn :)
