Rating: Summary: An instant Classic!!!!! Review: Without giving anything away concerning the movie, the story is simply amazing and it is very well illustrated by authour Terry Brooks. Lucas has once again blessed us with another thrilling Star Wars tale!!! Buy it, you won't be sorry.
Rating: Summary: A story worthy of the Star Wars legacy! Review: I really debated about reading this book. I had waited 16 years and I thought that I might ruin the new movie if I knew the story, but I couldn't wait any longer. It was worth it. The story that is presented is deep and rich, although there are a few weak points. Midi-chloridians? Jar-Jar Binks may become the new Ewok. You know, the character that kids love and adults just wish would meet the business end of Darth Maul's lightsaber. Those are the only two weaknesses. Qui - Gon Jinn is a great character and the mystery behind the Sith is a great set up for future movies. Darth Maul is interesting, a more athletic and less mystical Dark Lord than Vader was. Political intrigue, warfare, childhood dreams and fantastic creatures...this story has it all. I am sure that Terry Brooks pulled in the reigns a bit on the details, but the book is well done and a good read. It only serves to wet the pallet.
Rating: Summary: The novel, at least, is a disappointment. Review: While I expect the film to be fantastic, and I have no gripes about the story itself, I was disappointed by this novelization. As other reviewers have pointed out, this book is obviously geared toward younger readers, and the portrayal of most characters falls flat. It lacks the sophistication of the other movie novels--and frankly, I expected more from a writer of Mr. Brooks's experience. Three stars (barely).
Rating: Summary: Terry Brooks descriptive power brings this book to life. Review: Mr. Lucas once again makes it look easy by bringing Terry Brooks on board. As soon as I read the first sentence I was consumed by Mr. Brooks story telling. His Star Wars story telling makes him look like an old Jedi pro. As I read the last sentence of the last chapter I only wished there was more. My only hope is that George brings him back for Episode II and III.
Rating: Summary: Great Book, non-stop action Review: This is a great book for anyone to read, unlike some of the other StarWars books it doesn't bore you with information no one cares about. It also discribes things to you vividly. A Best Seller
Rating: Summary: A truly magical book capturing the flavor of the Force Review: I love this book. It fully captures everything that Star Wars has always been about. Terry has done a wonderful job. As a Shaman and author: Chi Gung - a book about how to actually use energy like the Force), I particularly like the aspect of the book that covers the very beginning of characters when they are learning their skills for the first time. The Force is very similar to what one would actually do in real life as a healer and shaper of esoteric energy and with 30 years in just such a field, I well know the steps one has to take while they are learning such a powerful skill. Just as Terry has shown, it is truly a challenging time as one progresses to eventually becoming a master. Read this book, it is great. It's fun, well written, the characters are cool, and the Force is realistically portrayed.
Rating: Summary: Good, but not great Review: The story is good but the writing is a bit awkward. Also, the character of Jar Jar (and his Gungan people) is over-played for comic relief. Like the Ewoks. But still, it wasn't bad.
Rating: Summary: excellent Review: i don't know what these other reviews are doing, giving low-ratings to this book! It is a masterpiece, endorsed by George Lucas himself!! George hired Terry Brooks... he didn't just jump on the band wagon. The book was written to enhance the Phantom Menace experience... to give a special insight on the plot and characters. Some people just don't appreciate it. Now i've read a bit, and i'm impressed. I'm severely tempted to read it before i see the movie, but i fear it would spoil it... special effects don't make up for lack of surprise. Anyway, see the movie... read the book.. do whatever you like... JUST HELP STAR WARS: PHANTOM MENACE BEAT TITANIC!!!
Rating: Summary: A quick read, nothing spectacular... Review: Episode I is a light read lacking much character development. The story is good, but the world it is set in lacks depth and breadth. The unfortunate result is a novel that's entertaining but leaves you wanting for more of everything.
Rating: Summary: A Great Read Review: I can't believe that there is a single negative review for this book! This is, without question, the best Star Wars book written and I have read all of them. It is also very close to being Terry Brooks' personal best. After the disappointment I felt in his last book, this Star Wars novelization more than brings Brooks back into favor. I see several critiques here stating that this book is not technical enough...Zahn and Stackpole are? I also see someone questioning Brooks' androgynous first name...if you really bought the book look at the picture in the back, dope. Or here's one for you, read the "about the author". Brooks is one of the most entertaining writing of our time, and this book was truly tremendous. Here's hoping Mr. Brooks and Mr. Lucas agreed to work together in the future.
