Rating: Summary: Read it for the backstory you won't get in the film Review: I usually stay away from Star Wars books in general. For me, if it's not by Lucas, it's doesn't exist in the Star Wars universe. After seeing TPM multiple times, however, I was so hungry for more about the characters, I had to pick up the book. For that reason alone I give it three stars. If you are at all interested (like I am) in more detail on the history of the Sith, in Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan's father/son relationship, in Padme's growing bond with Anakin, then you'll appreciate much of this book. However, if you're looking to read a well written sci-fi book, or to re-create the visual spectacle of TPM, go elsewhere. The dialogue is OK (actually, some of it is better than the film), in terms of describing the "feel" of the film, there are Internet fan-fic writers with a better sense for detail. Brooks fails at interpreting many of the scenes that made the movie appealing. The final lightsaber battle especially lacked punch compared to the intensity of the film. Get it only if you're an obsessive SW fan in desperate need of a fix, and even then, beware. You'll likely be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: This book is one star too many Review: I am somewhat a _Star Wars_ fan. I loved the movies. And since it's not going to show in Taiwan for another month, I picked this book up in a bookstore. This book is a major scam. Terry Brooks is killing himself for writing this book. This is the first book of his I've ever read. I heard that his earlier books were great. But after this bad first impression, I guess I'll think twice.George Lucas is playing dirty to the kids when writing this book. There are unneeded childish characters, especially Jar Jar Binks. And unlogical children, like Anakin and Amidala. Anakin is needed, but at 9 years old, this is ridiculous. To be a hero, it is more convincing if he's at least a young adult. That's why I believe this book, and also the movie, were created for kids. However, even a kid is not deserved to read this kind of watered-down writing. Children's literature should not be childish. Kids actually are capable of very advanced reading. I read _Reader's Digest_ when I was five. Why? Because it's not childish. It's absorbing. I beg my father to explain for me if I saw an unfamiliar word. This book failed to please the child inside of me.
Rating: Summary: this book was god to read. Review: I raly liked this book.once i was done with it i let my friends read it and they liked. We all give it 5 stars.Thak you terry grooks on this very good book.
Rating: Summary: This book is an enormous disappointment Review: I loved the film, I loathed this book. It is repetitive, dull, emotionally sterile and intellectually arid. No effort whatsoever was made to write from any character's point of view, so there is no insight into their thoughts or feelings. Movie novelisations are a unique chance to explore the internal landscape of the film, and Brooks has failed utterly to do this. Please, please, next time can we have someone the calibre of Orson Scott Card for example, whose novelisation of The Abyss is a masterpiece of film to book execution????
Rating: Summary: Know more about the REAL Star Wars Universe:Jedis-Sith Review: I really enjoyed this book, even after having seen the movie four times. Someone above commented that Terry Brooks added scenes, and I don't think that that is the case. It takes time to write a book, and I'm sure that Brooks watched a "rough cut" of the film, probably sometime before the musical score was added. Thus, I'm sure that that he didn't add any scenes, but rather wrote in everything that he saw, i.e., scenes and dialogue that Lucas probably left on the cutting room floor. He may have added some backgound and inferred some motivations from the characters, but that's all. I'm also fairly certain of this because the comic adaptation by Dark Horse contains a couple of the same extra scenes found in the book. So, if you want to know more about the REAL Star Wars universe, and read the scenes that were most likely CUT from the film, read this great book!
Rating: Summary: Look at this book Review: Once again Terry Brooks has made a graet story. But this time it's a Star Wars book. The lightsaber fights are so well described.George Lucas has done this story in a way that you have to see Episode 2.Now I have to see the movie!
Rating: Summary: Legendary Brooks Limited By Lucas' Story Review: Brooks has written some fantastic books and has experience with creating prequils for love and myth-loving readers. In this book he add life to Lucas' story and adds subtle background that breathes some excitement in the SW script. But Brooks, for all of his creative ability, seems to have been limited by the storyline -- and perhaps Lucas himself -- in creating a masterpiece. While this book is worth the buy and read for most every sci-fi/Star Wars fan, I'd highly recommend puchasing an additional T. Brooks novel to read in addition to this one. Readers of all types of sci-fi can find interest in his Tolkin-like books as well as his contemporary-setting novels. Good reading from our generation's most capable sci-fi writer.
Rating: Summary: Read this book for one thing: History of the Sith Review: The only section worth reading from this book is the history of the Sith and their hatred of the Jedi. When Yoda mentions the "Rule of Two" in the movie, one just accepts it. But the book does explain it. And quite well, I might add. However, the remaining 200+ pages of the book is a lifeless, word-for-word adaptation of the script with little imagination. Fortunately I saw the movie first and could picture the various characters, equipment and action scenes, since, unfortunately, Mr. Brooks could not translate them to paper. I doubt I will ever read another Terry Brooks novel, as I don't trust him to capture my imagination and give me a good read.
