Summary: Action-packed prequel
Review: "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace" delivers a satisfying story along with all of the action and swashbuckling adventure. I usually stick to mainstream novels like "The Triumph and the Glory", which by the way was terrific. But Star Wars holds a special place in my heart and I HAD to read this one, and see the movie. I am happy I did, the grand tale has lost none of its appeal.

Summary: Brooks is a master of description
Review: Star Wars Episode 1:The Phantom Menace review by Spence This adaptation of the somewhat disappointing Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace Movie is a lot better than the movie. Brooks is a master of description. He gives excellent similies and metaphors in a rather short book. Many people are adding the fact that there are some added scenes and that is the only reason it is good. I beg to differ! These scenes are worthless and pretty pointless (That's why I gave it four stars, plus it really short). They only good things about these are that he gives reasons that are not easily explained in the movie. Phantom Menace is a good book, but wait until it is on paperback.

Summary: Disappointed Star Wars fan
Review: Great Movie, disappointing novel. I am a Terry Brooks fan from his Sword of Shannara series, but I felt that Timothy Zahn did a far superior job. The two best things about this novel are the Sith explanation & the cover (which is probably why they chose five different styles), Lucas the mastermind knew that was the only way they would be able to sell so many copies.

Summary: Emperor's blakbone! Tis is gud.
Review: This is an excellent book, you get to know the origins of some of the players in the classic trilogy, and how the Senator Palpatine came to power, Emperor's blakbone! It makes me longing for the episode 2 & 3. I wish it could have been a little longer, 'couse it's so good.

Summary: A 'REAL' review
Review: Okay, before all you Star Wars fans crucify me, I have a few brief words: 1) I am a Star Wars fan, 2) I've read about 80% of ALL SW novels in all formats, 3) I read some of the reviews below and people must have been reading a different book than I was. Why?: Read on.....

1st, Yes, some sequences were changed. Anybody who saw the movie and studied it will see that there are, though few, slight changes in what actually happens. But this isn't all bad, if you can muddle through one or two minor inconsistencies, you will really appreciate the 'extra' sequences that did not take place in the movie. Yes, there is more with Anakin (a great insight to his character), more dialouge with all the main characters, even C-3PO and Maul!

However there were a few drawbacks for me that warranted this 3 stars: 1) Some scenes/events were cut short, glossed over, or never referenced (Jar Jar tank sequnce differed, Anakin Naboo starfighter pilot scene differed, Sidious/Rune dialouge differed, etc....), 2) Many of the battles seemed rushed to me. I never felt I was in the battle myself, i.e. there was no sense of grandeur to key turning points, 3) finally, Terry Brooks may be a decent author in his own right, but this novel lacked the pure description of locals, objects, characters that make the SW universe so outstanding. Writers like Stackpole, Anderson, even Zahn have a better flair for describing a setting, painting a picture in your head than Brooks does. Frankly, his descriptions bored me. I often thought he should have made more mention of this or that, aptly placing the reader right there in the scene, but it never really happened.

Summary: It was a great story that stuck pretty close to the movie
Review: It was a well written story that didn't try to completly rewrite the movie. I watched the movie and then read it, and it was great!

Summary: Episode 1 by Terry Brooks relays the thoughts of characters
Review: Star Wars: Episode 1 by Terry Brooks is a brilliantly written story that covers the entire film and also detailed thoughts that the characters emit. You cna live the Movie as you read.

Summary: A Masterpiece
Review: Reading the book is almost just as enjoyable as seeing the movie. It tells a great story that keeps you reading, because you feel that you absolutely have to see what happens next, and read some more. Usually movies that are made into books turn out very poor, but this is definately not the case with Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace by Terry Brooks! An Excellent book.

Summary: WOW
Review: I am soooooo picky about the books I read I have only in my life found 3 books I enjoyed reading.(and I'm don't one of thoughs people who like to sit in front of the TV all day, I love to read when I find a good book.) The books were: Lotto's Proggres, Ella Enchanted, and Star Wars Episode I, The Phantom Menace. I was GREAT!!!!!

Summary: A great book that depics the AWESOME movie!
Review: I really enjoyed this book as much as the movie. It was good, in a sense that it also had more chapters, and ideas that were not expressed in the movie, which made the reading much more thrilling. It was a real page turner, and I really couldn't put the book down. For a 14 year old, it wasn't a bit hard to understand, and it made me want to read it again and again! I would recommend it to anyone who is a Star Wars fan- or not!
