Rating: Summary: A great book for all fans of The Phantom Menace! Review: This is a really great book to read! It includes all of the scenes from the movie in great detail, provides insight on the characters, and even includes scenes that were not in the movie. I really enjoyed this book!
Rating: Summary: A mainstream book that excels? It's right here! Review: I have been an avid reader of all of Terry Brooks' novels since 1977, when he released The Sword of Shannara. What I love about his writing is that he is a master of telling stories. With the exception of one novel (Hook), every book he has written has made it to the New York Times bestseller list. Hey, The Sword of Shannara was the first science-fiction novel to ever be listed on the New York Times bestseller list. Bottom line is, the man can write. And unlike what other reviewers have stated, he added his own personal touch to the Star Wars genre, without compromising Lucas' vision. Anyone who knows Brooks' style knows that it shines with The Phantom Menace. Why some people criticize that Phantom is a quick read is beyond me. What is a book supposed to do, drag? Look, if you want an enjoyable read, and you are a Star Wars fan, you cannot NOT pick this book up. It is your destiny.
Rating: Summary: THE BEST STAR WARS NOVEL EVER! Review: This book encompasses the entire movie as well as unseen scenes. It is written wonderfully, with rich detail and is fast reading. It's better than the movie. Once I picked it up, I couldn't put it down! THIS IS THE COOLEST BOOK EVER!!!
Rating: Summary: Didn't like the movie? This is a far different galaxy!!! Review: The movie was awful, not to mention the acting. In this book the characters are good, yes, even Jar Jar, and the writing style is good, so read this book. ---YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPOINTED---
Rating: Summary: A good book and an excellent complement to the movie. Review: I loved this book. It was a quick, enjoyable read, and I would gladly read it over and over again. The reason I gave it four stars is because there wasn't much along the lines of charactor development, but I am sure that there will be more to the following two books. Even so, it is amazing.
Rating: Summary: this is a great story!!! Review: Hi my name is Jon It is one of my top 3 favorite books. This is one of the most enjoyable books i have ever read in my entire star wars fan life. Terry brooks has done it again. A marvelous very, very enjoyable book. If you are in the mood for a high quality superbly written story you have to read this book. I have been a star wars fan for pretty much my entire 11 years of living this one is well worth your time.
Rating: Summary: This book is for you... Review: I have to admit, I read the book the week before the movie came out. I know that a lot of people were upset that Lucasfilm did this. I'm glad that they did. I wouldn't have understood Jar Jar without reading the book first, or have been able to follow along with the plot. This book is a great read, & I've read almost all of the Star Wars novels. After reading this book (bought Obi-Wan cover), I went out & bought it on cassette. I love the 'inserted' scenes that were not in the movie; Terry Brooks gives much insight to ALL of the characters. I loved Qui-Gons insights into Anakin being the 'Chosen One'. Read this book, you won't be dissappointed.
Rating: Summary: First impressions on Terry Brooks Review: I haven't read any other of Brooks' books but this gave me the idea that he has what it takes. His character descriptions are intense and he includes all the characters' little trivial details. I'd love to get my hands on some of his own novels.
Rating: Summary: It's a script in book format Review: Usually if I buy a book based on a movie, the reason is becuse I want to get more out of the book than movies can possibly show. There weren't nearly enough descriptions of backgrounds, motivations, or thoughts. I was dissapointed in an author that I really respect.
Rating: Summary: It's tough to create a book out of any screenplay.. Review: Some other posts argue the merits of whether the book is better than the movie, etc. For book adaptations of screenplays, like this case, that question is moot. This book is simply a more user friendly, take-it-with-you copy of the movie storyline. I've read Brooks' work before and it's very good. Unfortunately, it's hard to properly flesh out this script in a book without some major additions. The book, faithfully following the script, is clearly written for children. This is unfortunate as the original Star Wars didn't get to where it is today by appealing to the ten year old set.
