Rating: Summary: One of the reasons I love Sci Fi Review: Part of the reason I love Science fiction entirely as a genre are books like this and its sequel. People who are new to science fiction need to at least own this book. It forms the possibillities of our world into one solid book. Unfortunately Anyanwu is brought up shortly in Mind of my Mind and she seems overly bitter but it is a must as well.
Rating: Summary: for the multicultural reader Review: This book is in a league of its own. The content is so new. I read sci-fi and fantasy all the time and it rarely includes people of other races much less focuses on them. Not only does this book focus on an African woman it is also completely original. I have never read any book that has content that is the same as the content in this book. It is truly extaordinary and due to that book Butler has become one of my favorite authors. Now, if only I could get SURVIVORS by her....
Rating: Summary: This book is a wonderful emotional read! Review: Octavia Butler at her best! You will go through every emotion as you read this novel. The characters are very interesting. The plot will keep you guessing until the end. Butler is one of the best science fiction writers currently creating fiction.
Rating: Summary: Spellbounding Review: Wild Seed is a book of African folklore, African-American history and a documentary of the spiritual evolution of man. This is my first read of anything Octavia Butler has ever written. She is good. I love how she places her main character, Anyanwu, into conflicts and how Anyanwu resolves each and every one. Octavia Butler gives her characters a physical form even when there is none present. This is truly a great novel.
Rating: Summary: a captivatig story Review: This book is very captivating it keeps your intrest from the beginning to the end. I could really believe some of the super human things to be true.It makes you think more about your family and there origin.
Rating: Summary: This book is indeed Butler's best and that is no small feet. Review: This book was probably the best of the series. I say probably because I just cannot decide whether it is this book or Mind of My Mind that is the best. I am a Junior @ Temple University and all of my life I have wanted to be writer. I am studying film now and one of the things that draws me to her books besides the sheer intelect behind the work is its sense of cinema. Everything that I have read so far could so easily be translated to the screen. Up until I discovered Mind of My Mind on the shelf I was a die hard Stephen King fan. I still like his work but Butler speaks to me, a black, female, sci fi fan, budding screenplay writer in a way that I have never experienced before.
Rating: Summary: Brilliant! Review: This was a *great* book. The characters were just gripping. I was moved to tears more than once. You *have* to read this!
Rating: Summary: Both exciting and informative. Review: Wild Seed is is an exciting tale featuring an African mind force named Doro, who had been wandering in Africa for centuries. His most important abilities were to change bodies by simply jumping from one body to another, whether nearby or on the other side of a river. His mind replaced that of the new body, and the old body died. His second abilitiy was to sense the presence over large distances of people having psychic talents such as telepathy (the ability to read minds) or telekinesis (the ability to move objects by mental ability without applying physical force). These people were taken to sites where he kept them and breeded them with other gifted people to produce offspring with improved abilities. During his travels he met the African woman Anyanwu, an accomplished shapechanger and medicine woman. The two travel together to an American site where his Wild Seed are located. Their travels and adventures are continued to the next book Mind of My Mind.
Rating: Summary: Wild Seed is a great book... Review: I thought Wild Seed, was a very interesting book. I love the way Ms. Butler visualized the life of immortals Anyanwu and Doro. There were a few misspelled words, and repeated sentences however, it was a great book.
Rating: Summary: A breath of fresh air Review: After reading Butler's book, I felt a rush of relief. Finally-something different! Butler's book is marvelous in its orginality. As an African American female, I couldn't help but feel overwhelemed. Though there are many fantasy stories where women are the main characters, there aren't many where they are black. It was as though black females just didn't have a place in fantasy, but after reading Butler's well-written novel, I was greatly thankful to the author. Also, the nature of Anyanwu and Doro is so original along with the complex relationship. Fantasy readers in general will love this because it's so different.
