Rating: Summary: A Huge WOW To A Phenominal Book Review: "...when something impossible happens, everything else comes unglued... 'You're, you're really -- ' 'Yeah,' I say. "Invisible." When Bobby Phillips wakes up one morning, invisible, his whole life changes in a minute. He has to stay home, hidden, while his physicist father searches for a way to make him visible again. The only other people who can know about Bobby's condition are his new blind friend Alicia and her family. When his parents are in a car crash, Bobby's life gets even worse. But it's not over yet. After three weeks of being missing, his school, neighbors, and even a fierce government officer are after Bobby. To save his family, he takes an incredible risk. During the book, Bobby learns about friendship, love, family, and precious gifts, like sight and life itself. The reader learns these lessons too through this beautiful and terrifying book. It was an exciting science fiction story, but it also had a deep meaning that made it a fabulous book for people like me who are not into science fiction. Things Not Seen is impossible to put down, and it leaves you with a lot to think about afterwards.
Rating: Summary: Great Lessons, Great Book Review: A true look into the mind and soul of two teenagers. Alicia, being blind, sees Bobby for who he really is. Wish all teens could see this way.Bobby is a great model of the commercial on t.v. "I go to my friends for advice because my parents are so dorky, but, I really listen to my folks as well. Even tho I'd never let them know." He's devloping his own sence of abstract reasoning, exploring his feelings about a great girl he's met and growing up. As a psychotherapist, I try to read the books I recommend to my clients, I've read it, and recommend it highly! Hope tons of libraries carry it.

When he bumps into a blind girl in the library, they become friends, and the boy, bobby's family and the girl, alicia's family work together to try to solve Bobby's invisibility problem. Rating: Summary: Can't wait 'til my students read this! Review: As a secondary teacher of struggling readers I am always looking for new titles to expose students to. I think I have found one in this book. A very interesting, fast-paced story about an invisible boy and his new friendship with a blind girl. The boy's relationship with his parents I see many students totally relating to. I also see students learning a lot of important life lessons from this book. Life isn't fair but how we react to circumstances says a lot about our character. Life's uncertainties can also dictate our attitudes about it. Bobby gives his peers a positive example about how to deal with things out of our control. I would have given this book 5 stars but it did get a little technical towards the end, almost sci-fiish. And even though the general plot is a bit far-fetched (after all, it is fiction) I still found myself wanting to find out how Bobby gets out of this mess he is in. A quick, easy, and fun read for middle and high school students.
Rating: Summary: Things Not Seen - review Review: Bobby Phillips has always had the feeling of being invisible around his parents and his peers. One morning however, he wakes up and finds out that this nightmare has come true. He is actually incapable of seeing himself! He is only able to tell his parents for the fear that if anyone else would find out this would become a nationwide publicity scandal. One day at the library he meets a young girl by the name of Alicia. Bobby soon realizes that Alicia is blind so she is not aware of his condition. They start to become friendly and one day Bobby lets her in on his secret. After a while Alicia's parents are let in on what is happening and both of their fathers' begin to formulate a reasonable theory for this occurence. As time passes on Bobby's school becomes involved and he becomes labeled as a missing child. Therefore, his parents must begin to work quickly to come up with a solution. If you'd like to find out how this story ends and if Bobby is ever visible again, read it to find out! I think that this is a great fantasy chapter book. It involves the ideas of how young teenagers sometimes feel as though they actually are invisible and how they feel ignored at times. For Bobby, this showed him that wonderful, lasting friendships could actually occur even though he could not be seen by anyone around him. From both the perspective of Bobby and Alicia it gives the reader insight about not being able to see the world and not having the world able to see you. This novel also teaches a good moral which is that there are people surrounding us on a daily basis which we may constantly ignore. Nobody will ever truly realize how we impact other people's lives but after reading this book I would hope that we not as easily overlook people with whom we have encounters with because one simple smile from a stranger may make their day and make them feel as though they have a place in the world.
Rating: Summary: Cheesy, escapist reading Review: Have you ever wished you were invisible? That you could go around without anyone knowing that you were there? Well, without wishing....Bobby Phillips actually DOES turn invisible! One morning fifteen-year-old Bobby Phillips wakes up...and he looks in the mirror after his shower, but his reflection isn't there! He rushes to tell his parents, but they don't believe him! It takes a while, but eventually his parents do believe him, but the question is...what are they going to do? Bobby's parents both go of to their jobs and leave him home alone for the day, and he decides to go to the library and just "chill out." While heading out of the library, he bumps into a girl, and he's SURE she's going to notice that, hey, there isn't a person under all the clothes, because his face (or, where his face is, anyway) is exposed. And then, he realizes something. The girl that he bumped into...she's blind. Bobby and Alicia (the blind girl from the library) soon form a friendship, and eventually Bobby's family and Alicia's family both pull together to solve Bobby's problem. But will it be possible to turn him visible again?! This book is good, and recommended for light, escapist reading. It doesn't require much attention/thinking, but it's definately fun, and worth the time spent reading it. Overall grade: B

Rating: Summary: Things not seen Review: I rate this book a five star book because it is kind of scary and funny. There are parts I like more than others like when Bobby meets Alicia and they turn into loving friends. This book is one of the best books I have ever read. I wish they make a number two book and if it is funnier I will rate it the same.
Rating: Summary: by Ryan (age 14) Review: Imagine one morning you wake up, you go through you're usually morning routine, and you look in the mirror...but wait; you're not there. You're invisible. In Andrew Clements's Things Not Seen, this is what happens to a regular 15-year-old boy named Bobby Phillips who lives with his two parents in present time Chicago. Throughout the story Bobby adapts to his new condition, and looks for some answers. On the way there, he finds himself lost, scared, but also finding new friends.
Bobby is such a believable character kids today will relate very well. He has the normal teenager personality with sarcasm ("Oh great. Yeah, let's call one of those Invisible Teenager Specialists. I'll get the Yellow Pages.") and everything else. In the beginning of the story, Bobby meets a blind girl named Alicia who helps him out so much from start to finish. Bobby learns who to trust and who not to trust, and how being invisible definitely has some advantages. "News flash: Invisible people make excellent spies and thieves." During the story Clements uses suspense, cliffhangers, and out of nowhere surprises. Some events may do the characters some good, but others take a turn for the worst. In the end Bobby makes some risky decisions and Clements has you in suspense until the last couple chapters.
This novel, Things Not Seen, is a fantasy, but so realistic with believable characters and settings with surprising, make you hanging, exciting events. It will make you think of the impossible and how you would handle it. This story reveals the significant of friends and why you should always have a little hope for the better. This is a book you won't want to put down until you reach the end.
