Rating: Summary: Great Star Trek Book = Great Star Trek Movie ... Review: This could of been a great movie if First Contact hadent shown, if Paramount wishes to keep the movies in order. But, ya, this was a great book, I think though, Shatner is draging his death out a little to much though with another book. O well, keep reading though, see what happens!
Rating: Summary: This SHOULD have been the ST movie of the decade Review: "The Return" is not the best written book I've ever read but it is certainly one of the most enjoyable, entertaining and exciting. I've been enjoying ST for many years but prior to 'The Return' I could never really get into ST novels - for instance 'James Blish' is a great writer but the characters never seemed to me to be real. Mr Shatner brings Kirk and the other ST members to life in a way that perhaps only he could. I can't discuss this book without entering into the debate about Kirk's death in 'Generations'. Thank God, Mr Shatner found a way to plausibly(?) bring Kirk back - his death in 'Generations' while moving, was untimely, unnecessary, ill-conveived and most importantly, entirely unsatisfying. I have no objections to Kirk being killed off but its got to be done properly and I think the only writer who could do it properly is Mr Shatner. Mind you, the ending of this book is also not a fitting end for Kirk either (I'm not giving anything away as we all know of the sequel 'Avenger'). It is a great ST adventure involving the Borg and the Romuluns, and it skillfully connects TOS with TNG universe. In any genre, Kirk is a classic hero in every literary sense - he is the classic hero, invincible (but fallible), independent (but achieves most when working with his friends), stoic (but a man of extreme emotions). Kirk is the consummate 'father-figure' - an adult to whom we can pass all resposnibility to him with the full confidence that everything will now be all right. You don't kill off a classic hero or character like this lightly. I think everyone will agree that whether or not it is the time for Kirk to die, certainly "Generation" was not the right place or means of his death. "The Return" skilfully re-opens a new chapter and quite properly and correctly gives a chance for Kirk to either be killed off properly this time or to otherwise end his career (the ancient Greeks would have simply had him beamed up to Mt Olympus) Finally if anyone with de! cision-making authority at Paramount sees these comments (and those of others above) for goodness sake start shooting "The Return" - it'll be the best commercial decision you've ever made. (but you've got to quick - Kirk couldn't be played by anyone other than Mr Shatner - so you can't wait years on this one)!!
Rating: Summary: Great story Review: Great story on what would happen if Cap. Kirk was reprogrammed to kill Cap. Picard. And also it shows they found a way to kill the borg.
Rating: Summary: William Shatner writes the way Cpt Kirk speaks:Brilliant! Review: The book The Return is a wonderful novel for all Star Trek lovers who adore Captain Kirk. The way everyone enters the book! Even Spock and my alltime favorite doctor Bones. William writes the way Captain Kirk talks: short sentences with tension that goes up in every word to the final climax of the book. I just can't wait to read Avenger and Spectre, but I haven't found them in Holland, YET. It's a Brilliant book and William is a brilliant writer! So for everybody who doesn't like it: BEAT IT YOU FOOLS!
Rating: Summary: Flawless Review: The Return was a beautifully written novel that flowed well from location to location, character to character, and conflict to conflict seamlessly, answering many of Star Trek's unanswered questions with such logic as to make the reader ask, "Why didn't I figure that out before?" Shatner did a marvelous job penning the novel, probably the one person who could have written the return of Kirk. The only real problem with the book is that it requires a moderate knowledge of the Star Trek universe, mostly the first seven movies. Other than that, the book was flawless
Rating: Summary: This book was great. Review: Who better to write a story about James T. Kirk, then Kirk himself (Shatner). This book was really excellent. I read it because it was a sequel to the movie "Star Trek Generations." This sequel is very well done, and you won't be able to put it down.
Rating: Summary: Too bad this couldn't be the next movie. Review: I think the BORG have been over-played, but, this is an exellant storyline. The imagination of Shatner to bring Captian Kirk back to life is truely amazing. Never a moments rest in this book. You'll have a hard time putting it down!!!:)
Rating: Summary: A good book but you have to pay close attention Review: I really enjoyed this book by Shatner, it is well written and stays true to Star Trek history. There was only one thing that bothered me, it was confusing. i kept reading and reading but some of it just made no sence at all! Kirk is resuracted the nbecomes borg. Okay but then it goes into this whole tale of finding him, making him better then him. . . well if you want to know readit yourself! This is a very well written book, as is its sequal, but did it have to be so hard to follow?!?!
Rating: Summary: Great!!! Should be the next Star Trek movie! Review: Great story; great action; should be the next Star Trek movie. Great for all Trek fans.
