Rating: Summary: I think this book rates a 5 for good science fiction. Review: I think this book rates a 5 because I love Star Trek and this book relates well to the Star Trek that I know. This book was adventurous and I couldn't stop to put it down. The tone of the author, William Shatner who was the original captain in Star Trek was very persuasive. I could imagine him reading the book as I read and I could imagine what was going on. This book starts out with the death of Captain Kirk as shown in the movie Star Trek: Generations, the first movie in theaters for the crew of Star Trek: the Next Generation. I could imagine what was going on because I'm a trekkie and I saw the movie and it was very interesting to see or should I say read about what happened between the Generation's movie and the Star Trek Movie First Contact. This book outlines how Captain Kirk was brought back to life by the Borg and why the Borg made an alliance with rebel Romulans who wish to invade and destroy the Federation. I would recommend this book to all those who are fascinated with the future and science fiction. This book was very interesting to me because I am a trekkie and the fact that I am a trekkie fan causes me to be very bias about all Star Trek stuff.
Rating: Summary: ONE OF THE BEST STAR TREK NOVELS EVER Review: I read THE RETURN BY WILLIAM SHATNER and I was just blown away the book has everything you'd come to expect from STAR TREK. Action, excitement, danger, and herorics rolled into one. It deals with a resurrected JAMES T KIRK who's being used as a pawn by the ROMULANS and the BORG how he's used I won't give away you'll just have to read the book which is a must read for any STAR TREK fan. I think it would make a great screenplay as well here's hoping anyway!!!
Rating: Summary: Excellent story, a few screwed up facts. Review: This is an excellent book by William Shatner. The only problem is that some of the facts are a little off. For example, the CURRENT phasers in Star Trek are not blue. They are reddish-orange. The phasers may have been blue in Kirk's time, but not now they aren't. Also, how would Kirk know how to work a holosuite, and how would he know that it was one, by only watching Slatrel? HELLO!! Technology cannot be understood by a 23rd century leftover that quickly!!!!! None the less, a good book.
Rating: Summary: A good book - a better screenplay? Review: "The Return" is one of the most enjoyable, entertaining and exciting ST books I've read. What a screenplay it would make! Mr Shatner brings Kirk and the other ST members to life - would love to see it on the screen. This book is a great SciFi adventure involving the Borg and the Romulans, and it skillfully connects TOS with TNG universe. Kirk is a great character of heroic proportions. He is a classic hero, in a continuing epic adventure, spanning generations (sorry about that). I strongly recommend this book to any ST fan, and most scifi readers would enjoy it also. Thank you Mr Shatner!
Rating: Summary: The Kirk is back, and ready for action, Review: T. kirk is back, a hero can't be kept down for long. the borg and romulons have teamed up, and the captain of the enterprize is in danger, sounds like a job for Kirk. many suprises and great action, a must read for all trek, and kirkdom fans.
Rating: Summary: Shatner Strikes Gold With Kirk's Long-Awaited Resurrection Review: William Shatner has done it, again. Kirk is back, as only Shatner can portray him. If Shatner is the only one fit to depict Kirk's voice on the screen, then he most certainly is qualified to speak for Kirk on the written page. And Shatner is a MUCH better writer than actor, which may come as a relief to some. Kirk's resurrection would have been difficult to pull of under ANY circumstance, and to say this situation was less than ideal would be a gross understatement. Yet Shatner pulls it off with just the right traces of believability and mystery. To the complaint that Shatner's ego knows no bounds: So what?!? It's SHATNER'S book, and that means KIRK is the hero. I was not a Kirk fan until "The Return," and after "Ashes of Eden" (a masterful bridge between "Star Trek VI" and "Generations") I came to actually like the guy. In Shatner's defense, he managed to get the "Next Generation" crew close to on-target, and the Picard-as-Locutus elements were downright creepy. People's biggest complaint is that Kirk beats everyone. That's the point! Maybe or maybe not could it happen, but it's Shatner's book, and after "Ashes of Eden" I'm more than willing to cut him some slack. The plot is tight and well-woven, nary a hole in sight, and the inclusion of Spock and McCoy (where's Scotty?) makes the introduction of the first-generation Enterprise crew as pleasant and fun as possible. The Borg-Romulan alliance is a new twist, and Shatner does some interesting variations with the ever-creepy borg. In short, Shatner depicted Kirk as only he could, and did a fantastic job. This book may not be in my Top Five Star Trek Novels of All Time, but it's VERY close.
Rating: Summary: JUST GREAT Review: I was very sad when Kirk died, but now I'm so happy he survived. and if I can give evry body a tip: READ AVENGER and get again excited by Kirkie saving the day!
Rating: Summary: Good Trek Book Review: This book has clearly been one of the best Star Trek books I have ever read. It picks up after Star Trek: Generations when the Borg-Romulan allies resurrect the body of James T. Kirk. Kirk is brainwashed and is used against Captain Picard and the crew of the Enterprise-E. Very good, but the idea of bringing Kirk back again after he "died" twice is very odd, especially with the other Original Star Trek people gone from the book, save Spock and McCoy.
Rating: Summary: Better than Good Trek novel, that could use a little more... Review: The book is good, and Shatner is a capable author, but the ending falls short. I like the complexity of the story, and the plot twists, but at the end it's reduced to three old geezers that were once Kirk, Spock, and McCoy, sitting on the Bridge insulting each other. The ending could have used a little more punch.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic! This is a great followup to the last Trek movie. Review: Mr. Shatner has done a wonderful job picking up the story from the movie and providing us with alot of action from chapter to chapter. Only William Shatner could possibly have included all the nuance's of all the characters involved and tied everything together so nicely! I couldn't put it down. Paramount..please make this the next Trek movie!!
