Rating: Summary: Interesting but not as good as "The Invisible Ring" Review: This is the first of Anne Bishop's trilogy, a trilogy I recommend for anyone interested in darker fantasy with a matriarchical edge. One word of caution about this entire world Bishop has created: sex is viewed as dangerous, especially for women, and that a negative ring which I dislike. That aside, I felt sincerely interested in the main characters' lives and the world seems well planned and executed by Bishop.
Rating: Summary: For mature readers! Review: This is a great book to read if you are interested in a good fantasy book. It's an original world with many dimentions, well developed plot with unexpected twists. The charecters are deep & mysterious. I admire the way Ms. Bishop writes, she grips the attention of the reader & gives information little by little when you least expect. There isn't a lot of meaningless descriptions of places, buildings, frills etc... (The boring stuff). My only warning is that this book is not for young readers, becuase of the sexual component that made me blush(...)
Rating: Summary: margaret from North Queensland. Australia Review: have you ever found a book thst you just could not put down, well this one of them.... Then when you are finished you are really angry that you didn't get the other two books to the story, so that you can finish the story. Well this is what I found.I had to run straight to get them, and I haven't beeen disappointed. I will not go into the story as it is very involved and heaps of other people will tell you the story.. But take my advise and get these books
Rating: Summary: Fantasy Soap Opera Review: Most of the books I buy based on other readers recommendations usually turn out to be ok but every now & then I kick myself for wasting my money. This book is one of those few.I could not finish this book. Half way through, it just got too boring and was going nowhere very slowly. The plot definitely had potential (dark and sombre) but it just wasn't interesting enough to keep me reading. The characters did a lot of chin wagging & chit-chatting and very little else. But, based on the large number of glowing reviews for this book, I am obviously one of a small minority who did not like this book so if the storyline tickles your fancy, odds are you will enjoy reading this book.
Rating: Summary: I will blast you with my black Jewel!! Review: Well, I havent been much of a fantasy reader. Oh, I've read a couple from the genre. Like the Redwall series and whatnot; but oh my god! These books are THE BEST. Even if you dont like Fantasy, you have to check these out! Take my word for it.... If you are going to get one, get them all so you wont have to torture yourself while you wait for the others.
Rating: Summary: Highly Recommended Dark Fantasy Review: Once upon a time, I wished upon a star. My wish? To find the perfect book. Thanks to Anne Bishop and her Black Jewels Trilogy, my wish finally came true...
Rating: Summary: Fabulous beginning Review: This book made me go out and buy three others... Bishop creates a really interesting world where magical strength is determined by the darkness of one's jewels. In a surprising twist, darkness is valued more than light. The novel, beginning a wonderful series, takes the reader on a journey with really deep characters. The villain is truly evil, but the heroes are not purely good, which makes them seem even more human. A great read and well worth it!
Rating: Summary: Addictive Review: This was my first "Fantasy" series. I couldn't even finish the over-rated Rings series by Tolkien because I couldn't stand the made-up words that he and other fantasy writers are so fond of using (if they write so well why not stick to english?). The main story-line twist on the Christian cast of characters did intrigue me so I ploughed on. What a treat this book (and the rest in the series) was! I can sum up my appreciation of this series by simply saying that it ranks up there with Dune and that after having finished the whole series (in a couple of sittings), I am left with some sense of emptiness. I hope that the author will find it necessary to continue beyond the Queen of Darkness.
Rating: Summary: Totally Amazing Review: I loved this book, it was like nothing I've ever read before. I love how Anne Bishop has made her characters. And the detail, she goes into is just amazing!! Everyone has to read this
Rating: Summary: WOW!!! Review: After over 100 reviews on this book there is not too much left to say - other than- A GREAT book.... An ENTHRALLING plot.... .... COMPELLING characters...VERY WELL written..... and just LOTS AND LOTS of fun to read!! I read this novel during vacation and am not quite sure what happened during the two days it took me to finish . One might think that two uninterrupted days is a bit too long to read a book especially if you are as avid reader as I am. However, I find that reading fantasy books requires much stamina with lots of concentration and persistance to get all salient points. Anyway, I just loved this story and am so thankful I waited several years before starting the trilogy so I can follow the adventures of Queen Jaenelle, Saetan, Daemon,Lucivar, and Surreal. I look forward to seeing how this very special "Witch- child" matures and at least know that I won't "age" too much between books.
