Rating: Summary: I laughed right out loud! Review: I LOVED this book! It's one of those that while you are reading it, others around you keep looking at you and asking you why you're laughing or smiling. I loved the characters and the plot. I have passed it on or recommended it to many. When it's my turn to pick a book for book club, this is going to be my choice. I just know they're going to love it.
Rating: Summary: Homorous!!!!!!!!! Review: This is a book I can read over again(at least once a year). It has much humor with a Bear striving to become human, while at the same time the human is getting out into the outdoors with nature. So this novel has an interesting twist.
Rating: Summary: A Fun Read Review: While this was a fast fun book to read, it really made you stop and think about people today. Everyone is moving so fast with so much on their minds that no one really stops long enough to really look at the people around them. Just like in the book every one was so into themselves no one study Hal long enough to see he was really a bear. Hal saw more of the people through his nose and the people around him saw with their eyes.
Rating: Summary: In a Word, Decent Review: After reading this book i found that i did, indeed, enjoy this novel. I put it down and reflected upon it's ending as most people do when finishing novels and thought "That was nice" and moved on to the next book. Frankly i found nothing "Laugh out loud" funny about it. It takes alot of funny in a book to make me laugh, but there was more funny Situations than Diologue. I kinda wish Hal Jam could express himself better. You Say "He's only a bear! What do you expect?" I Say "I never heard a bear talk anyway" I Understand it is a fable, but even Asoep's animals could speak better than this. I don't think i'll be rushing to read this book again. However i do hope i read another book by Kotzwinkle again. Pretty imaginative.
Rating: Summary: The Bear Went over the Mountain Review: A delightful, funny and relevant parable of our times. From supercillious academics to superficial publicity agents, from the hustle of Manhatten, Hollywood and the White House, to the backwoods of Maine and the dog with a penchant for molasses cookies and ball licking, this book is damn good fun. Well written and well told.
Rating: Summary: Modern Fairy Tale Review: The bear went over the mountain is a charming and fun book to read. Additionally, it's an interesting look into how fragile an individual man's grasp on his humanity is - and just how others view one's humanity. The bear finds great comfort in human soceity, and as a result of his celebrity, he easily fits in, while the man who's place he takes drifts further and further from the soceity he helped the bear enter with his lost manuscript. This is a fascinating book, and an easy read. Definitely recommended.
Rating: Summary: Gruff!!! Review: Just a fantastic satire, and a fanciful fairy tale at the same time. The problem for us is that this book hits home with our society a little more than it should. Too often we immortalize our celebrities and forget about everyone else. Behaviours that celebrities get away with are considered uncuth for the rest of that. No one gets more leeway than the bear (Hal) who is the hero of this novel. And it's so damn funny! Makes me wish I was a bear too...
Rating: Summary: Great Read!! Review: My daughter gave me this book to read while I was travelling home on a bus. I was laughing out loud and people on the bus were asking me what was so funny. I told them "Ya gotta read this book!"
Rating: Summary: A good story Review: I found this to be an enjoyable read. Quite entertaining. One that you could put down and easily pick up later. Not deep -basically a good story to read before bed or when you have a small bit of down time.
Rating: Summary: Funny and insightful Review: Ok this is one of the most satirical and funny books I have read in some time. The bear is great and I loved the illumination of the superficial world of publishing and book selling. You must read this book!
