Rating: Summary: One of the best books I've ever read. Review: The first third of this book is awesome but slows way down in the middle but don't despair it picks up again totally action packed.
Rating: Summary: A comic book without the pictures Review: The story of the death of Superman and surrounding events before and after his return. This book would be like dinner without the dessert for the hardcore comic book reader, but Roger Stern does a good layout of Superman from his very beginning that even your grandmother could follow. As a so-so comic fan, I liked the stuff I didn't get in the comic book, even things that were completely different and I especially liked how it was explained that Superman basically died of exhaustion rather than leading the reader to believe he was pummelled to death. But my biggest complaint is the very reason the book was written: Why kill him just to bring him back? But I guess even teenagers like soap-operas.
Rating: Summary: It's O.K. Review: This book intricately describes the death and Return of Superman, and it's pretty good, though only if you're a fan.
If you are a Superman lover, this book is a must. If you
like super heros or comicbook characters, it is still a great
book. Yet if you don't like Superman or comics, I'd take my money
elsewhere if I were you.
Rating: Summary: Ok, but... Review: This book started off really good. The battle with Superman vs Doomsday was pretty cool. However, too many supermen spoil the story. Gets kind of dopey. Superman dies, then all the sudden You've got a cyborg superman, a cloned superboy, a renegade superman, and a guy in a metal suite ("Man of Steel")... it's just too many and the story kind of loses focus. There's no explanation of where Doomsday comes from other than he was buried, in chains and breaks out. There're clues that he might be a genetics experiment gone bad, but they don't really go into it. It's a decent read, just not great.
Rating: Summary: Enjoyable Light Reading Review: This book takes the saga of "The Death of Superman", "Funeral for a Friend", "Reign of the Supermen", and "The Return of Superman", which appeared in comic book form in the mid 80's, and turns it to light reading. The story starts slow, does not have the "punch" of the comic book stories, but picks up pace towards the end. I was a bit disappointed because it seemed to me that the author just looked at the pictures of the comic books, and turned them into words, without adding any new insight.

Rating: Summary: The best comic based novel Review: This is one of the best comics based novels there is. I have followed Superman comics since he died in '93. It followed the story to the T. I enjoyed reading it, and I continue to enjoy it every time I read it.
