Summary: Very good addition to the Vorkosigan Saga
Review: About 4 months ago, my wife put me on to the Vorkosigan series, and I really have enjoyed it. Having read all of the Miles-related books, I have to say that while Komarr may not be the best of them, it was still a great page turner and leaves you hungry for more. In fact, my only real complaint with this one is that it leaves far too many loose ends which will likely be continued through the next book in series. But...I could be wrong; Bujold may not continue the romance introduced here, just like she has (at least for now) apparently dropped the Miles/Ellie one. We'll see. A good read, a must buy for all sf/space opera lovers.

Summary: Miles matures - Bujold improves!
Review: Lois McMaster Bujold gets better and better... and so does Miles Vorkosigan! This book is far and away Ms. Bujold's most subtle. If you don't read it carefully, you'll miss a lot! It's wonderful to experience a more mature Miles - his childhood was <mostly behind-the-scenes> traumatic, his youth agonizing, his young adulthood amazing, but his maturity is shaping up to be extraordinary!

I have to admit, it took me awhile to appreciate Ms. Bujold's restraint in not exaggerating the impact of Miles' "son of his father" presence on Komarr <of ALL places!>... After all, more than 30 years HAVE passed since the Solstice Massacre... It would be unrealistic to expect more than one Ser Galen lurking about...

As to Ekaterina - at last, a new <strong> female character - who might last awhile! Miles' former loves were not in his emotional league - Ekaterina certainly is! The thought of Miles' potential 'familial' complications will help to keep us entertained until the next installment!

'Vokosigan lives!'

Summary: A good read, but not up to Bujold's high standard
Review: I read Komarr at a gallop, finding it great fun, but most certainly not great art. After the complexities of "Mirror Dance," for instance, one could hardly help but be disappointed.

I did enjoy Miles's struggles to learn how to appropriately be an Auditor -- and especially his sudden realization that sometimes he just has to follow his instincts -- and I also enjoyed seeing him develop his ability to work with others. But of course, the real fun in this novel was the blossoming if inconvenient romance with Ekaterin, who is herself quite a wonderful character.

A must for the completist, but not the novel I'd give to someone who's encountering Bujold for the first time.

Summary: I can't wait for two years!
Review: If only Ms. Bujold could write as fast as I can read! I received "Komarr" from Amazon on 6/29 and had it read by 6/30! Bujold has done it again with this most recent installment. The story of Miles post-Dendarii is excellent. There are some frustrating parts, such as the ending, that are like getting that tiny little spoon you get at ice cream stores. Sure it tastes good, but it just wants you to buy more! Seeing Miles really filling the shoes as the Lord Auditor is great. Miles has really matured in the last three books and now it would really be nice to see him as a family man, like his father. Now he may get the chance! Buy the book if you are a true blue Vor-ophile. If you are not in love with Bujold's character after the first few books, you obviously have not read the books right! Try Again! Again, another brilliant installment by Bujold. Please Write Quicker! (just kidding, keep up the quality and the magic!)

Summary: Worst of the series
Review: Unfortunately this book is by far the worst of the series. It's missing all the things that make the series enjoyable. It's as somber as "Memory," but has none of the fun. There's little wise-cracking or sly and subversive social commentary. The plot isn't original or clever. The hero, Miles, doesn't even do anything clever or interesting.

Summary: Another Miles adventure?
Review: I don't know if this book represents an adventure for Miles. There isn't a space fleet to battle, there isn't a threat to the throne of Barrayar, so what's the deal? Well, maybe the deal is revealed in the last few pages of this book. You'll have to see.

Now, we will have to wait until November 1999(!) until we get to find out what is happening with Miles's life on this front.

I would not recommend this book as a starter for those who are unfamiliar with the series. The devoted fans, however, will find it as page-turning as ever.

My only problem with the book was that this situation did not require the "full-on," "no-inhibitions" Miles we've loved since "The Warrior's Apprentice". I hope he comes back, and soon!

Summary: A new installment, but little new ground
Review: Komarr is a further book in the saga of Bujold's Miles Vorkosigan but does not add much to the character of Miles, or break much new ground at all. As a space opera it undoubtedly works, but it does not have the freshness of Bujold's earlier works, or the more intricate plot development of "Mirror Dance" or "Memory". Coupled with a rather weak ending, Komarr is a disappointment to the avid reader of Bujold's works although it does stand on its own as a reasonable read. Let's hope for a better installment next time.

Summary: Latest in the Shopworn Vorkosigan Saga
Review: "Komarr" is a Miles Vorkosigan story when Miles is 30. It's the latest in the who-knows-how-long-it-will-run Vorkosigan soap opera.

I like Bujold, and this series is about the only one I follow. And, there is nothing special about the series, it's a vanilla space opera, except for the characters, and the brilliant, stunted Miles is a gem. In this particular installment Mile's may have found the love of his life.

However, how long will this series go on? With ten books in the series, its starting to wear a bit thin.

Recommended for Vorkosigan addicts as their next dose.

Summary: An excellent evolution of the Miles series
Review: There are very few books that keep me up reading past my bedtime. This is one of them. Both I and my wife devoured this book in a few days.

With this book, the author has shown that Miles' character will continue to evolve in delightful ways. Here, we meet a new woman in Miles' life who both loves and hates most of the same things about Barrayar as Miles. Also, we get a look into the methods of another Imperial Auditor, which allows Miles to show that he doesn't have to run the show - he just ends up doing so.

This is a must-read for any follower of the series, and a fair introduction to anyone new.

Summary: If you've somehow missed the parade get on the bandwagon!
Review: I was one of the fortunate to "find" the Vorkosigan series several years ago. Not, alas, at the beginning but when Miles was a raw recruit. I corrected my error and IMMEDIATELY bought the rest of the series. I've waited with baited breath for every new adventure since, and Komarr was no exception. "Memory" made me nervous--how could she DO that to Miles?--but Komarr proved once again why Bujold is considered one of the premier SF/Space Opera masters. I hadn't even realized how I missed Cordelia's heroics until another strong female stepped into the plot! Best of all, SHE'S BARRAYARAN with all the pride, loyalty and devotion to duty as that implies. How can Miles fail to be in love? Bravo Ms. Bujold! If you are one of the few who've never read one of her masterpieces, join the parade and read them all.
