Rating: Summary: Too short, but enjoyable.... Review: I would have to say that I really enjoyed this book. Since starting to read Fantasy's, I have come to enjoy the 'series' of books. Whether there are only three (Dragonlance Chronicles) or nearing a dozen (Wheel of Time)...I have enjoyed being able to follow one or more characters on the journey through life. When I picked up 'Redemption of Althalus' I wasn't sure if I was going to like it because of it being a single book. After I was finished reading the book, I knew I would reread it again in the future. David Eddings made all of the characters enjoyable to read about and with. The witty remarks from all corners of the book made me laugh in many places. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes Edding's work or Fantasy in general.
Rating: Summary: Redeeming Althalus Review: Most reviewers seem to believe that this is a bad book. Not so! The only fault I can find with it is that it is compressed. It should have been a three volume story, a-la Elenium and Tamuli, but for some reason Eddings decided to cram it all into one volume. The omissions are rather obvious. Still, I very much enjoyed the book, but will not recommend it to non-Eddings fans. The next series (the Dreamers) should solve the cramming problem Eddings is currently having. The characters may not be completely original, still, they all have their own quirks which none other in any of the other series have had. Not his best, but certainly not bad!
Rating: Summary: A good book even if Leigh Eddings wrote the whole thing. Review: In the Redemtion of Althalus it seems obvious that Leigh Eddings was in charge of most (if not all) of the work. Nonetheless, I still think that this was a wonderful book. While it does contain a lot of repetition, and seems like it would be an easy story for a small child to follow, the characters and the plot kept me captivated. Wonderful ideas such as Everywhere and Everywhen showed some imagination and the classic fight between good and evil never fails to be entertaining. While I would not classify this book on the same level as David Eddings' earlier books (mainly the Belgariad and Molloreon) it is still a great read. I reccomend it for everyone, but if you have a child and are looking for a good book to read to them, pick this one. It would be perfect.
Rating: Summary: I'm not going to bother finishing it... Review: ..as I find myself readily agreeing with everyone who nailed it for the stinker it is--adore the Belgariad and Mallorean though I do. If you've seen Monsters, Inc., the Eddings' pivotal plot device is nothing more than deja vu all over again.
Rating: Summary: The worst book I've read in 10 years. Kid's books included. Review: You wouldn't be wrong to wonder, given the title of my review, just what possessed me to actually finish the book. And, frankly, I don't have an answer. Maybe I just didn't have anything else to do on the toilet. And yes, I recognize that is a crude reference, but, in all seriousness, bathroom reading is all this book is good for, if it's even good for that. Here's the problem: Reading the book is like being a fly on the wall in a high-school drama classroom with your eyes closed. The dialogue is soooo banal, stilted and riddled with corny, innapropriately placed attempts at witticism, that much of the read had me choking back my bile. Beyond that (and it's almost impossible to get beyond that), the plot was absolutely nonexistent. I've seen much more interesting story-lines from watching Spongebob Squarepants with my son. This was a filler book. Something to pay the rent until inspiration comes calling. Or at least, for the sake of this writing team's future book sales, I hope it was. If this is a representation of what these two have left in their tanks, they're runnin' on empty baby.
Rating: Summary: Meh. A nice little story. Review: There really isn't a lot to say about this book. I never really achieved a sense of ownership, or belonging to the story or the characters. Weak character development, convenient plot hole fills, and an overall lack of suspense or jeopardy work together to make this tale a colorless, pithy novel.
Rating: Summary: Good Review: This book was actually quite good. I know nothing about the authors; I was just browsing in the library when I found it. Anyway, this book was pretty good. The reviewer who gave it 1 star had some points, but it wasn't THAT bad. It's not deep or original, but is an enjoyable read with quirky characters that you'll regret to see end.(It convinced me to buy it - very rare for me. If I know that a library has a book then I almost never buy it unless I *really* liked it. After all, it's just right there in the library, waiting to be read. Why buy?)
Rating: Summary: Read the worst of David & Leigh Eddings Review: I have been a die hard fan of David Eddings since I laid my hands in Pawn of Prophecy. I got Althanus as a gift because I told everyone to read Eddings, I was very happy when I saw it, because here in Chile where I live, is very dificult to came up with a book like this. Anyway, first thing a noticed once I started reading: is this Althanus character The Belgariad's Silk (Prince Kheldar)?, ..... I continued...Is that Polgara in the House at the End of the World?.....I could go on, I think you get my point, the characters are the same as in the other book(wich are still great). The only good thing about this book, is that it's David's and Leight's Eddings...I wont stop liking them for one downfall, I stiil have the Belgariad, Malloreon, Tamuli, Elenium, Polgara, Belgarath and the Rivan Codex the thank them for, but this Althanus mmmm.. not their best, I gave them three stars so they can try to go back to the old books, and perhaps take a litlle more time and review their work and improve the characters before hand... My Advise: But this book to support the autors.
Rating: Summary: Great Book! Review: A surprise to me, after reading and re-reading the Belgariad books. I was prepared to hate it, as it did not have the same characters, but instead I found myself wishing the book wouldn't end. Loved it!
Rating: Summary: Solid Book Review: After having read all of David Eddings other books and for the most part enjoying them, I found myself faced with the pleasure of reading the redemption of althalus. This book is by far my favorite of all of his books. the main character is an absolute riot to follow through his many adventures and his supporting cast is well developed and enjoyable to read about as well. It was a nice change of pace to finnally get away from Belgarion. Perhaps the best praise i can give this book is that it has quickly become my favorite from amongst the eddingses publications and i have thoroughly enjoyed them all.
